More Cap vs. Baron Blood...

first a "one perfect moment with Captain America.

On to business. Cap gets a message from his old Invaders teammate to come help solve a mystery. At this point it is supposed to be the first time he was seen then since WW2.

I hate going through customs.

First he meets Spitfire, now an old woman. I think it was in JB's Namor when she got the second blood transfusion that restored her youth.

Great slpashpage !

Stan Lee always said he believed Steve should be drawn as the handsomest man in the Marvel universe.

It helps that Byrne was at the height of his powers, and the inker (not sure who it was) was also really good.

QFT. As short as it was, Stern & Byrne is still my favorite Cap run.

Human perfection, after all!

Wonder what passport he was travelling under? This was still when he had a secret identity, so presumably he wouldn't use a Steve Rogers passport if he was going to show his Captain America card (literally.)

Man, being an Avenger must be useful. I love it when Cap has one of those smug little 'it's good to be me' moments.
And that moment with Spitfire is rather touching, not to mention sad. I can imagine it would be a bit of a shock to see someone you used to know years and years ago completely unchanged, while you've grown older.

Were Spitfire, Union Jack, etc. shown to have a reaction to Cap's death?

Nope. That was all a loose thread of Cap's origin. This is mostly a reaction the Roy Thomas's The Invaders series than anything from the original Cap myths.

It is worth having. Byrne was supposed to do one more issue in the run. the break downs art is included as padding .

The hoodlum pic at the beginning. It must have dawned on him the consequences of actually pulling the trigger on Captain America. Beyond Cap being able to dodge the bullet (and force feed him the gun for his troubles) should the hoodlum actually deliver a killing blow- every cape, uniform, Western spy, law agency would want 5 minutes in a locked room with him. Most of the active and retired armed forces would kill him, and the Red Skull, Zemo and the like would resurrect him and kill him again just for depriving them of the opportunity to kill Steve.

What have we learned from this post? If you want to have awesomely sexy Steve Rogers hair, the secret is to sleep on a shield forged from a Vibranium-steel alloy.
