Marvel revives some unexpected old stars... or should that be Stars?
Announced at Heroes Con 2009 X-Men Panel... not only the return of the X-Babies but some rather unexpected characters

X-Babies, an October-launching miniseries by Gregg Schiegel and Jacob Chabot that brings the X-Babies of the Mojoverse back to the forefront

and at the same time introduces the characters from Marvel’s defunct kid imprint, Star Comics to the main Marvel Universe. Star characters that will meet the X-Babies include: Royal Roy, Top Dog, Planet Terry, and Wally Wizard.</em>

Meh, Storm still isn't a patch on the-black-cat's Baby!Terry</a>

Planet Terry - Looking VERY Zot like, no?

Top Dog - Ummm? Augie Doggie gone cyborg?

Wally the Wizard - Now apparently wielding the Beatrix Medallion

Royal Roy - Looking... well, rather generic

Possibly; "Now, what existing properties do we own can we adapt to bring younger readers into the comic buying realm again? How about we revamp the long dead Star Comics characters and instead of making them for REALLY small kids, try and catch the Ben10 market"

They, ah, do know Harvey created Richie Rich in, what, 1953?

Why are so many things Marvel is doing lately make me want to facepalm?

Ah, but you see Richie Rich is simply disgustingly wealthy and is, if anything, plutocratic, Royal Roy is a member of a rulaing monarchy... Quite, quite different.

For example, Richie would have to PAY for his hookers, Royal Roy could claim droit seigneur.

I think I would only look at an X-Babies issue if Colleen Coover did the art.

Really, check out this Wolverine cover she did: http://www.colleencoover.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/heroes_weaponx_full.jpg

I'm ALMOST won over by the fact that little Shadowcat's costume actually has cat-ears on the cowl... but somehow... not won over at all.

Wait.

Star Comics characters?

Do you realize that this means CHUCK NORRIS AND HIS KARATE KOMMANDOS could potentially be reintroduced into the Marvel Universe?!

Silverhawks, Thundercats, Heathcliff, Foofur, Care Bears, Bullwinkle and Rocky, ALF (funny as hell book, that one), Fraggle Rock, the Getalong Gang, Inhumanoids, He-Man, Defenders of the Earth, Strawberry Shortcake, the Visionaries...

And weren't the actual Muppet Babies part of the imprint?

I loved "Visionaries"... I must post the pages from the comic which finally gave Galadria and Virulina spells of their own, which is a damnsight more than the cartoon ever did (Though to be fair, it never gave the vehicle drivers their personal spells either)

It's amazing how uninterested I am for this. Eesh. I know the art'll be great since Gregg's doing it but my god that's an awful story in the making.

What is WITH all this X-Baby hatin' goin' on? The X-Babies are AWESOME! They're cantankerous toddler versions of the X-Men, with all the powers but none of the angst! And they're connected with MOJO, who is one of the best damn X-villains ever created! What's wrong with that? Honestly, I don't understand you people sometimes...
As for the rest, Planet Terry is actually pretty good, from what I've heard (the old one was, anyway), Top Dog has potential, Wally the Wizard would seem to offer Harry Potter-like stories, and Royal Roy... well, that'll suck. It's guaranteed. But all the rest look fine to me.
A question - is the Star stuff here supposed to be concept art, or fan art, or what?

As it was posted along with the official article, my bet is that they're the accepted revamp designs for the chartacters

But there's so many different versions of them, some of which don't resemble the original at all. I mean, Royal Roy was always cutesy, but he was never THAT cutesy - same with Wally the Wizard. And it's obviously not a simple before-and-after, or we wouldn't get so many Top Dogs. My guess would be that these are the artist's concept designs, not the finished ones - he's still getting a feel for the characters, and this is what he's done so far.
