Much like Simonson's work on Galactica(this would be the cruddy original BSG, not the amazingly good later one) later, a Marvel comic that exceeded its source material.

Yeah, For a while they dropped the crappy 32 page adaptaion that just skimmed over the film ( who the hell ever bought those ?) and went in favour of 6-7 issue attempt with good art.The Logan book went one issue past the film to where Logan finds the computer that run the city is dissconected, and old people are running the show behind the scenes. Ths issue is tough to find cause it has a Thanos back up story and it worth a few bucks. Planet of the apes is another effort that fits into this generaton.

Perez' art also looks so interesting under different inkers--it appears that it works well under mearly all, but not so many dare to use a brush on him.

Marvel in general was getting pretty strong on SF around this time, even in its toy adaptations. Simonson's Galactica, though, is one of the forgotten gems. It was funny! I recall Jolly, for instance, as finally getting a personality, and an issue with, as usual, Starbuck stuck on a planet alone with a killer Cylon. Which I couldn't help thinking Ron Moore may have read and had in mind with Kara in that episode of the later one.

Actually, I think it might have been re-used even earlier -- Starbuck stranded on a planet with a Cylon was a key plot element of the "Galactica 1980" episode that briefly brought back the character.

The first two issues of this series and the splash page of this issue were the very first comics art I saw before the comic itself was published! George Perez took a table at a Star Trek convention in 1976 and had these available to view. I've never forgotten how much that first unexpected glimpse at comic book creation excited me. And looking back on the series today, it's clear that Perez really pulled out all the stops. There was a lot of story to cover in a relatively short space...but he still manages to work in unconventional layouts and atmospheric moments and it never feels crowded.

I read in an interview that GP claimed this book was the birth of what he would call his "modern style" It certainly knew how to do a layout !
