I had a freak out after reading this the first time. WTF? Why is Dick acting like an insane dick? Especially after all the hints that Tim was planning on moving up anyway because it's time? Couldn't they just have him say he was leaving so it made sense for him not to be Robin? Arrrgh.
But I realized, sadly, that the one thing I did like is at least this is about the actual family, and this writer seems to correctly see Damian as a stranger being genuinely unwanted in a house where people are actually grieving for their actual father and he doesn't care.
I hope, though, that the idea is that Tim is going to look for Bruce as a way of holding onto the family he only mistakenly thinks is gone, and coming back to be part of it again. As stupid and contrived as it is to have Dick just randomly give the costume to a kid (because if he doesn't Damian might kill somebody...great) w/o telling Tim until Damian's there to taunt him. But I can see Tim regressing a little here in his grief and needing time to hear what Dick actually said. He didn't get fired, Dick wanted to promote him in the way Bruce didn't promote him.
This is totally my favorite relationship in the Batverse and I have to believe this is moving towards making it stronger. Please? Pretty please? You didn't need the contrived drama and even more anger and angst for Tim, but please let them come back together soon! I want my real Birdboys together!
