Interview about the various Post-BotC Batman Comics, including Batgirl

IGN Comics: Batgirl is another series that's coming out later in the summer...

Marts: Correct. We've released the fact that it's coming out in August as well as the creative team. This is very much a question mark. We've been intentionally coy about Batgirl information. We don't want people to automatically assume Cassandra Cain is Batgirl. I will say that the person who becomes Batgirl is indeed on the board.

IGN Comics: Barbara Gordon has a lot of fans that are wondering where she'll wind up moving forward. I see that she's located underneath the "Batgirl" section of the board. Is that going to be her home for the foreseeable future?

Marts: I would say so. She'll be important to the Batgirl series, and also certain story threads that we introduced in the Oracle limited series will find their way into this series as well.

Oh my god! This can only mean one thing... Calculater is the next Batgirl!

It is weird that 'WHO IS BATGIRL?' has become the bigger mystery over 'WHO IS BATMAN?', but it's still entertaining enough over at the 'Rama with people whingeing that it has to be Babs because she's the only one with the right to the cowl after Cass.

And as much as I love Cass, she really got a raw deal over the past couple of years, so perhaps it's time to either do something solid with her, or leave her alone for a while rather than annoy people with poor portrayals. As it is, given her sister/aunt/whatever has returned to prominence, why not give Bette Kane a spotlight in the mask for a while? Frankly, she's the only one I can think of who'd explain that particular smile on the first cover.

Plus - The Joker - still under 'at large'? Given his lack of appearances as of late, why not just leave him alone entirely and save him for the final Dick as Batman story that we'll inevitably get?

When Oracle #3 came out, I had an idea where Oracle forms a Birds Of Prey-lite with Gotham's younger female heroes called The Batgirls. Is it okay that I'm excited that everyone I anticipated for that team is under the Batgirl banner and he's all-but saying Babs will be a major supporting character but not the lead in that book? :D
Failing that, how significant do you think it is that Steph is at the top?

Also, dammit Dini why is Riddler under the GCS tag put him in SoG instead! I'd already decided I disliked March enough from his cover work to stay away from that series, but the Vicki Vale section in Gotham Gazette just cemented it. How'm I gonna get my Riddler fix if he's only appearing in a book I refuse to read? (is he going to be the charlie to their angels, because that might be amusing if not for Gulliem March)

Ikr. Maybe it's just my belief that DC's pulling our legs again so I don't much care, but that raccoon is the most amusing/interesting thing there.

There, DC, fixed that for you.

Just let Winick write his baby zombie ex-Robin, seriously.

The "Batman & Robin" cast makes sense, it's eerie. Hopefully they won't waste that opportunity of decent Talia-Damien-Jason interactions.

If Steph's in "Batgirl", how come she's on the second cover of Red Robin?

Maybe the half of the cover that Steph's in is Tim's past, and the half with Red Robin is his present?

Interesting that both Batwoman and Maggie Sawyer are missing from the board, and that both Helena and Leslie are listed as "at large"

I've seen conjecture that Vicki is the new Batgirl -- and there does seem to be a resemblance

As far as I can tell, the 'at large' section is divided into two sections, which doesn't necessarily mean they're being listed as villains, which I initially assumed they were.

The arrangement of the board does distress me a little, given I don't like the idea of Helena being cut loose.

Also, I think Batwoman might not be on their current board because apparently, isn't it due to be taking place outside of current continuity, to some degree? I've heard Rucka and Williams III have had it done for ages, and it was just a matter of finding the right time to launch it.

My Two Cents, its between Spoiler and Babs. Look at all the other series, the star is at the top so this would point in the direction of Spoiler. However the characters of calculator and misfit have little to nothing to do with Spoiler. It seems to be a Barbara centred plot. Surely if Spoiler was Batgirl, Red Robin would have a big role?

I'm disappointed in Streets of Gotham. I was hoping for a book more about the supporting characters as opposed to another Batbook.

I don't recognize alot of the "at large" people.

Mirror Man? Seven Men of Death? No Face? Hamburger Lady?

Are these new characters? Or am I missing something?

Looking at the Batman and Robin cast I'm starting to wonder what the chances actually are that Jason is/was the 'demonic' Batman in Batman #666, the one that got his neck broke. I would not be pleased.

Well, looks like I won't be getting Streets of Gotham. Much as I love Paul Dini and Nguyen, if none of the characters I love are in it, no dice. Especially since it's 3.99.

Meanwhile, every single person I care about appears to be in Batgirl. It's quite toturous.

The Azrael photo says "Azrael (Lane)". The quotations are used over on the Batgirl side of things to say "Batgirl (C. Cain)" also.

They appear to denote multiple people using 1 identity. A) What's going to happen to Cass in Batgirl #1? and B) Anyone want to wager as to whether we'll be seeing a second Azrael or the return of the old one?
