A Curious Case of Romance Heroine Dickery

This is short but sweet (in a sugar-high, sour manner), gang!
For all my browsing on romance comics (well, everyone needs a hobby); this is *one* case where the heroine dickery is deliciously obvious and THERE IS NO HAPPY ENDING. No random proposal, no white wedding wrap ups, and no cheesy monologues! Wah-hey!

Meet the girl that's doing all the dicking;

This is Brenda. She's our little hubristic heroine who thinks that NO guy is good enough for her until she thinks so...

See what I mean? Looks like she's working on a plan for her future.

Oh! That reminds me, she also likes shopping. *rolls eyes*

Yes, the coat looks LESS INSANE on you, dear.

Aahhh, yet another comic showing the same consistency of people jumping into Lust Mindless infatuation a relationship within just a matter of hours.

Remember how in one issue we got a heroine that won't stop talking about how poor she is? Here's one that won't stop talking about how high she is everyone else looks like ants.

But you've just said--AH Furgeddaboudit!

Ladies and gents, Anna Nicole Smith Brenda the Gold-digger. See that? She's crying tears for the shattered dreams of pay checks and celeb status. But at least we got to see a guy make a clear getaway from her icy clutches instead of going through MORE pages of her chasing after him or vice versa so 'credible' apologies and marriage can ensue.

Wow, she deserved it.
The art is pretty, tough.

Here I spent the whole time expecting that that guy would just turn out to be the male version of her and dump her!

Yeah, that was pretty much what I was expecting too.

Aahaha a romance comic where she loses him? Ace! Serves her right, too.

That skating dress is awesome, though. Romance comics always make me wanna loot wardrobes.

I had to 'confirm I was a human' before making this post.:/

Count me in with the folks liking the ending.

"I was wrong to think you could love a mere, multi-millionaire fashion designer! Now if you excuse me, I'm going to go binge-eat an entire tub of caviar and then cry myself to sleep on top of my vast pile of money."

I'd like to see some romance comics where an assholish hero gets his, too.

This is precisely why School Days is so amusing.

Hang on--So not only did they fall into, like you say, immediate infatuation, and she 'doesn't know his *last* name' but presumably they would have exchanged first names?

Because she meets a well-dressed man name Leonard at the Leonard!Durand store, who gave her style tips on her Leonard!Durand outfit, and tells her she is indeed special enough to wear an oh-so-special Leonard!Durand...

I like to think that Brenda does almost the exact thing once every couple of weeks, with as much drama every time.

'Course, she can also be so frickin' high up in her pedestal that she just doesn't register names of common salesmen in her brain~~~

She needed that, although it doesn't seem like it affected her personality much.

I am deeply ashamed to say that this makes me think of that Avril Lavigne song . . .
. . . but am proud of my stash of "Our Love Story," or rather, my mom's. That shit is BANANAS in the best way possible. I think I'll post a couple favorites when I go home for the weekend.

Wait wait wait--she never calls herself a fool! What kind of Our Love Story story is this?!

Oh, wait. She talks about her foolish ambition. Doesn't qualify, though.

Raise your hand if you knew who he was from the beginning. *Raises hand* It was predictable, then again these comics tend to be.

Just what the message of this comic is eludes me. Is it 'don't play the field', or 'do, but know when to stop', or 'don't be a little tease', or 'listen to your heart, for it shall make you wealthy', or what? A combination of all four, perhaps?

Yeah, probably all four.
Or maybe it's:

"Don't question your boyfriend until you pin him in marriage. Thinking is BAD for you."

Or perhaps it's more philosophical: 'Do not dig for gold, let the gold, instead, dig you. Dig too deeply, and all you'll end up with is dirt.'
