The Comic You Pretend to Buy for Nonexistent Younger Relatives #14
So between ORACLE and GA/BC and the lack of any of my normal standout titles, this was a pretty bad week for comics. And that would ordinarily be pretty disheartening, and cast a bit of a pallor over the whole Wednesday LCS experience.
Except for the other comic that came out this Wednesday, which is pure distilled awesome that somebody cut with liquid joy and pressed into ink and paper form.
The basic plot premise here is simple: Kanjar Ro shows up at the UN, demands to be made king of the world, and then freezes everybody in place with the Gamma Gong. Nothing human (or approximately human, in Clark and Diana's case) can move. So, who does John Stewart call for help?
That's right, he calls Ch'p.
Obviously, if the humans can't save the day, the animals will have to, right? So Ch'p picks up the obvious allies - Krypto, Streaky, Ace, even Beppo and Topo... but what about Flash and Wonder Woman?
Well, Flash doesn't have a pet, but...
That's right, Jumpa the fucking KANGA fills the Wonder corner of the Super Pets roster. Right now, just from that, this is already the best comic that will come out this month, quite possibly this quarter.
Anyway, the pets go to the UN to confront Kanjar, and whup his skinny pink ass.
Hell yeah Beppo.
They ask how to unfreeze everybody, and Kanjar brandishes a whistle that he says will end the effect.
I think it was Ace's job to see that coming. Good going, Ace.
The pets are all "Ohshit, ASSLOADS OF EVIL BEES GIANT ANTS," but Diana interrupts with an idea. (One of the things I love about this series is how regularly Diana has good ideas. It's almost like she's got the Wisdom of Athena or something.) She sends Beppo up to the Satellite.
That apes issue is just the gift that keeps on giving, isn't it?
The Simian Super Friends and Assorted Animal Sidekicks jump into action.
Ohgods. If someone's got a caption, there's a fantastic icon to be made here.
Look at that.
Anyway they all go back to the Satellite and restore everybody to human again, and make bad jokes about every dog having his day. And then Arthur notices that Wally has slipped away.
There is absolutely nothing I can add to something this sublime.
