Blackest Night Solicitations
IGN has just posted July's Blackest Night solicitations here and I just have one thought.

And hi everybody.

Now *that* is scary.

Welcome back, orion.

Looks like J'onn is getting back for all those JLA pranks back in the day..

Gah, I hadn't even recognized that as J'onn.

He's definitely looked better. Maybe he just needs more Oreos Chocos.

That's what I was thinking. Hal didn't bury him with any Chocos (since Hal ate them during the service), and J'onn is trying to reach in after them.

And then, since J'Onn knew that Bruce left a Choco on his casket, is going to hit up DeadBats for more. "Mars needs Chocos!"

The solicitation states they're in Gotham City to investigate a bizarre crime.

Hang on, I need all caps for this.

::deep breath::

HAL JORDAN AND OLLIE QUEEN ARE INVESTIGATING IN GOTHAM? BECAUSE THERE ARE SO FEW DETECTIVES IN GOTHAM, YES IT ALL MAKES PERFECT SENSE.

AND THEY'RE BOTH SO BRIGHT, I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW ANY OTHER DETECTIVE COULD COMPARE (IF THERE WERE ANY).

See? You start by calling in outside help, and next thing you know...

Ollie is doing this just so Bruce will roll in his grave, isn't he.

One of the other solicitations has Black Hand embracing Bruce's tombstone. Whether he was killed in the present or sent to the past, Bruce is most likely dead in the present (unless he's an immortal in the cave at the end of Final Crisis). I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up as a Black Lantern.

That would actually make for a very nice springboard for the Search for Batman. The only question is whether or not DC would go for it this quickly. There's no point to the whole Battle for the Cowl nonsense if Bruce is quickly returned to the DCU.

There's no point to it anyway (aside from recycling "The Death and Return of Superman") :p

Actually, I have to disagree with you here. The point of the whole "Batman RIP" arc seems to be to explore what would happen in Gotham were Batman ever to suddenly die. There's a concerted effort to show real fallout, and not just with BftC. There's the Oracle mini (such as it is), the Commissioner Gordon one-shot, Alfred and the Outsiders, the Batman and Robin and Red Robin series coming out after BftC, Batwoman and the Question taking over Detective Comics (and let me just say this now: I am over the moon thrilled that LGBT characters are going to be featured in one of DC's flagship titles), and I'm sure that there's more.

Now, of course, Bruce isn't dead. Personally, I am glad for that, and I am glad that DC isn't even pretending. They aren't going to kill off the main version of Batman for good, and I appreciate their honesty. The Bat will be back, and I hope that we are treated to a hell of a show before then.

I think "Tiara" and I think "Wonder Woman" or "Luke Cage". Luke Cage is black, J'onn's a Black Lantern... there's a bad joke to be made here, I'm sure of it!

I'll give points to Mahnke for remembering that any "costume" J'onn wears is actually part of his body.

Unless capes that can split up, move independently, and have veins are standard Black Lantern attire.
