Jeff Parker writes a good Namor.

Four scans from X-Men vs. Agents of Atlas #2.

The huge force of X-Men pummel the Agents, but then hit a snag against Lao the great dragon:

Namor...opposed to contived fighting?  Skrull!

Later, there's a bit of followup to the Namor/Namora thing:

It seems confirmed that she doesn't feel she can have sex with her cousin in good conscience anymore, after that whole eugenics thing.

l liked the bit about the reformed villains (though I can't imagine what she'd teach).

Elsewhere, Aphrodite gives Venus a tramp-stamp.

Why doesn't' superhero just ASK for things? Is everyone on a superhero team in Marvel too high and mighty and actually think the ends justify all the means that they do?

In the case of the Agents of Atlas, it actually makes a reasonable amount of sense for them to be fighting other heroes. After all they're good guys posing as bad guys and heads of a giant multinational "evil" organization.

But yeah...in pretty much every other hero vs. hero battle, it's a perfectly valid question with only an out-of-universe answer: Because heroes fighting each other sells comics a lot more than heroes having polite conversations with each other.

"So let's just invade their home and steal it, it's not like it's one of their most important objects. Even if it was, I highly doubt that you would try to track us down and fight over it."

Can you imagine the wars, REAL ONES, this kind of thinking would start?

"eugenics thing"?

Also, Venus spreads love by flashing giant boobs. I can't think of a more effective method.

That she and Namor were part of an attempt by some Atlantean elders to produce better Atlanteans.

It's hard to remember, but super-teams actually USED to meet without immediately fighting each other. For instance, the first Justice League/Justice Society team-up, when the two teams met, they were smiling, shaking hands, the Green Lanterns were comparing power rings.

There have been plenty of DC team-clashes SINCE then, but still--for instance, the Challengers of the Unknown and the Doom Patrol, the most Marvellike of DC-teams, nevertheless worked with each other... but almost always when two teams met in Marvel, they fought.

Although I loved the Kurt Busiek/Perez AVENGERS-JLA book, one thing I thought would have been even funnier would be if the JLA came to the Avengers' earth, and automatically assumed the greatest heroes on THIS world would be respectful, law-abiding, professional, non-violent, and they showed up at Avengers Mansion, all smiles and expecting to find a team in sync with them...

And if the Avengers, in typical Marvel style, immediately thought this group of unknown superhumans were villains, and attacked.

I'm oversimplifying, with plenty of exceptions on BOTH sides, but in general, DC super-teams tend to meet and cooperate against the bad guys, whereas Marvel super-teams tend to fight each other upon first meeting. Even when the Fantastic Four first met the Avengers, both after the Hulk, they kept on getting in each other's way and doing harm to each other, like the Thing getting hit by Thor's hammer instead of the Hulk.

Want to know one of the most interesting exceptions to the Marvel rule? The Moon Knight and the Punisher. They meet for the first time in one of the annuals -- and promptly shake hands and say, "I've heard good things about you," and go after the Viper.

Well if they fought then at least one of them ends up dead and you have a very short comic.

You know, I wondered how Namor would feel about Namora's team fighting his new team, but it never occurred to me he'd stop the fight.

I love Emma here! And I love how tall and muscular Namora is.

The X-Men are a better fit for Namor than the Avengers in a lot of ways. He's all about being the angry violent outsider with an ambiguous relationship to the world at large - that's the X-Men's bread and butter.

OK, I have to ask - what are Namor and Cloak and Dagger doing in the X-Men? Isn't that stretching the definition of 'mutant' just a teensy-weensy bit?
That being said, it's awesome how Namor's being written here. The dude has PRESENCE - he is, after all, a king, as well as a solo ass-kicker on his own. He's got that confident/arrogant you-will-submit-to-me vibe down cold. When he speaks, you DAMN WELL LISTEN.

Namor's a mutant; Cloak and Dagger, are I think, mutates (regardless, outcasts; and the X-Men have taken in non-mutant members before, anyway).

In story, Namor's here because he made an alliance with them against Osborn, and Cloak and Dagger are here because they don't have anywhere else to go.

Ah, OK - makes sense. Still, I hope this state of affairs doesn't last very long - both Namor and Cloak and Dagger work better as solo (or, in C&D's case, duo) characters, in my opinion.

I think C & D could benefit from hanging around; it doesn't preclude solo adventures (just ask Wolverine), and they really can use all the exposure they can get.

I suppose. Still, my first exposure to them was while they were essentially homeless, wandering the streets of NY with only themselves for company, and while there's certainly nothing wrong with plot development, I think they were most effective during that period.

Well, with Cloak and Dagger, sure. But they don't have anywhere else to go since they betrayed poor ol' Normie and his X-men. But Namor has been recognized as a mutant for at least 20 years or more. They used to call him Marvel's First Mutant, and all.
