Secret Six #14
Secret Six preview is up at Comixology.

Oh, and feel free to spoil and be advised of spoilers for the rest of the ish (it is out today AFAIK, though I haven't gotten to my LCS yet).

Ah, so she hates them for not saving her. Makes sense. I'm beginning to like this woman. (Late to the party, I know.)

But man, what is up with all the pastywhite Bana lately?

Beat me to it. Looks good. Jeanette recovered fast.

The perks of undeath, I suppose.

"Three thousand years they stayed on their little tropical island while women were treated like cattle all over the world."

Yes! How dare the Amazons create a land where they can live in peace and choose not impose their beliefs on foreign nations and religions!

Or perhaps there are more reasons as to why women were being treated like cattle than just the Amazons minding their own business?

Well, Jeanette is crazy and evil. She suffered horribly, because she was a woman, and now here are these women who claim to be about preventing that kind of shit, and where were they when she needed them? Of course they're contemptible. That is 100% sound supervillain logic right there.

So...we should hate Amazons and Wonder Woman now?

I don't know, are you planning on becoming a supervillain?

Well, I'd like to be a supervillain, but it would only be limited to stopping Batman once and for all. That'd be cool. No bank robbing scheme, no city domination, no popularity contest, no murdering the masses, no "I see what we really are!" monologues, just plain "because I can".

No, what bluefall said is why Jeanette hates the Amazons, not why anyone else should.

IIRC the Amazons were actually sentenced to Themiscriya to guard the portal to the underworld.

So all of what I said PLUS they're following a duty. They really are stupid, aren't they?

DARN YOU DC ANIMATED!

The Bana, however, weren't. They turned themselves into an isolated man-hating militocracy who then proceeded to hire themselves out to the very men that they hated.

She has every right to despise the (bana) amazons.

I loved that they finally acknowledged Bane as a master strategist in the previews, it often feels that that part of the characterization is pushed aside for 'I break your back' in Bane's appearances.

I was left a bit unclear by the preview, did Vandal ingest the Venom? And if she did, I thought that Bane was the only who could retain some semblence of sanity while on the drug due to his monstrous strength of will, pun intended, and his experience with it.

Well Vandal Savage had a healing factor and if her daughter inherited it, it might dampen the Venom's effects.

This is why it is so beneficial to have a woman write comics. She has the ovaries to say the things that other men wouldn't. And it's nice to finally relate to a writer and their point of view.

Okay, knowing that shit has seriously hit the fan, Scandal realizes they need major firepower. So she takes the venom.

...

Or she could grow a brain, and go free Diana.

Maybe she's somehow aware of how completely weaksauce and ridiculous those manacles holding down Diana are and figures she'll be joining the party in a minute anyway with or without Scandal's intervention.

[info]icon_uk

My guess it the manacles which all have little tubes feeding into them, as well as a gas mask strapped on her face, are pumping Diana full of enough sedative/toxin to take down a herd of rhinos.

Plausible enough (not that even that should work very long, but then, of course, it didn't). It's still kind of hilarious to contemplate anyone in the DCU going "hmn, let me just chain Wonder Woman with some thin steel manacles," though, regardless of other precautions.

[info]icon_uk

Since she can tear through anything they might be able to construct anyway, what difference would it make? As long as the drugs are effective, the actual manacles are essentially purposeless anyway, except to hold the drug lines in place.

Hm, I wonder if Grendel comes under the same heading as Medusa and the other mythical beasties that Diana has no problem dispatching.

The art is very pretty, though for some reason I'm really amused by the blue hardhats that some of the Amazons are wearing. *laughs*

True, but what does Jeanette care about that? If you hate rats, whether you're looking at a flea-ridden norvegicus that just crawled out of a sewer or a freshly-groomed Zucker that's never stepped outside of its cage isn't going to matter to you.

Unless Jeanette is over 3000 years old, it's quite likely that the amazons she hates are the Bana and extends that naturually to their sisters?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]bluefall
2009-10-16 05:04 pm UTC (link)
Hardly. Nobody outside a couple of Egyptian merchants had any idea the Bana even existed. Legends of the truth of the Themyscirans, however, would have survived wherever greek myth thrived, and the Themyscirans have been in contact with Man's World pitching their theme for nearly two decades. She hates the amazons for failing to save her, it's pretty utterly irrelevant when she actually found out that they considered it their thing to do so.

As for the Bana, they preyed on the men around them for seed and food. They didn't get the immortality or the fertile island, it's not like they had much choice. Hardly a violation of their man-hating principles.

They didn't need to hire themselves out, surely -- they could have worked as pirates/marauders rather than hired guns
