Faster than a speeding Orthinomimus! More powerful than a Triceratops...
Marcelo Di Chiara has posted these pages at his DeviantArt page

An origin for Reptil, a character in the Mervel Super Hero Squad.

These images link through to the original DeviatArt pages, which seems only fair.

I'm not sure, the fact that his dinosaur selves appear to more human in proportion than his human look. I know that's not Marcel's fault, it's the weird proportions of the figures in the show.

That being said, I like this kid, he's trying to be a hero. Reminds me a little of Kid Dinosaur from the Wild Card books, but hopefully won't come to depressingly sticky an end...

Intresting Origin.

A mite different from his official origin, however; his parents were archeologists that disappeared one day, and that rock was one of the last things they sent him.

It's to work it into the "fragments of the fractal stone" plot of the cartoon.

You mean the Infinity Sword? (with which Doctor Doom shall RULE THE UNIVERSE)

Yeah but since his only appearance was in an isolated one-shot a few months before Superhero Squad it is quite obvious he is mostly a Superhero Squad character why give him a different origin in the main universe where he will probably never show up ever again.

Not a big fan of the ever-changing proportions (especially before he found the stone), but the little detail of the tag sticking out the back of his shirt is adorkable.

The show's kind of fun..Surprisingly.

I finally caught saw an episode of this the other day, and once you accept that it is mostly aimed at kids, it's actually surprisngly enjoyable. (They had a great riff on that line of Joss Whedon's that was used badly in the original X-men film. i.e Storm's "What happens to a Toad when he's struck by lightning?" when they had Thor do the same thing. (Thor's hilarious in it..)

It has, dare I say it, almost a Marvel Adventures vibe about it. Where it'll be mostly be aimed at kids, but with jokes thrown in that the older fans will enjoy on a different level if they're sitting there watching it with their kids. (They even snuck in a Hulk-Amadeus Cho reference the other day..)

Plus, bonus points for having Jan in it still alive as both Wasp and Giant Girl!

I got more of a watered down Batman Brave and the Bold feel from it. Entertaining but not amazing.

I wish every episode title was in Thor-speak.

Cunning marketing ploy they have there, putting a couple of their Super Hero Squad toys into their 16-year-old character's room.

And hey, now I know Reptil's civvy name for the old post's tags.

I KNOW! I can handle four-fingered hands in a sufficiently cartoony style (Donald Duck, Fone Bone, etc.), but these are juuuust real enough to be OHMIGOD FREAKY.

My feelings exactly, especially when they're so thick and stubby. It makes everyone look like the Thing.

You try putting braces teeth that change size every time the kid thinks about it? Not to mention they can potentially slice your hand off when you try to give him a filling. Not something a dentist wants.

Uh... how do you know they're tyrannosaur teeth, may I ask? They're sharp teeth - that could include anything from a pirahna to a wolf to a... well, anything carnivorous. Sloppy writing there.

As so often happens with superpowers, an innate understanding of what's happening to him due to the influence of the stone?

Or else, since he's a dinosaur geek already, he senses the jawline he's growing is indicative of a Tyrannosaurus.

Except his JAW stays the same; he just gets sharp teeth. Anyway, I'm not sure ANY variety of geekness is strong enough that your first thought following a physical transformation is 'hey, this is just like that thing that I'm into'! For instance, I'm a big fan of the 'Doctor Dolittle' books, but if an animal said something to me inpassing, I doubt I'd immediately go 'hey, this is just like in Doctor Dolittle!' I think it'd be more like 'AAAAAH! Wha?! Huh? AAAH! Talking animal!'
...OK, so that doesn't involve physical transformation, so it's a lousy example, but it was all I could think of.

As he appears to instantly develop a hellacious underbite to go with his suddenly-pointy-carnivore-type-tearing-teeth protrude forward from his mouth I'd say his jaw definitely DOES change shape.

Fair, and nicely put, point on the "WTF?" sensation that would probably accompany suddenly REALLY acquiring powers. I do think the "bonding with a magic stone" origin probably handwaves away any problems like that!

I guess... and the fact that it's a kid's comic - but still, it's sloppy writing. Someone like Carl Barks would have done wonders with this sort of thing. Where are the Carl Barkses of the world when we need them?

What I like is it's a dinosaur-themed character.

Because really, maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, but you really don't see many of those. Oh sure, there's lots of reptilian-themed characters, and Beast Boy turns into prehistorical animals every now and then (I always loved in the cartoon where he turned into a T-Rex for effect), but there really aren't that many specifically dinosaur-themed characters around.

(and I know it's wrong, but I like the panel of him tied to the post there. Know your audience Marvel)

I always saw Sauron as more of a mutant (and technically, pterosaurs weren't actually dinosaurs :)), but I guess Stegron counts.

Two is a pretty small number, though, given the wealth of dinosaur-related material to work with. And they're both villains. I want more dinosaur-themed heroes, darn it.
