Colour and black and white bronze age below.

A Human woman using Dracula for her own ends,
Dracula's effects on family life
Dracula's influence compared to the influence of personal interests, and Dracula showing respect
EDIT: Dracula vs. Lilith his daughter

I love that cover so much. Those guys are members of a police team dedicated to fighting vampires. That's beautiful.

The rest of this plot-thread is picked up later, but I can't find it right now..

DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA! And tragedy. There's more of this later too, which I can find if anyone's interested.

This is more of a Dracula-study. He seduces and turns a ballet dancer, who doesn't realise she's died and become a vampire; all she cares about is dance. But Dracula is all, "no bride of mine is gonna be having no career!" and comes to fetch her. She's not into it.

I'm definitely interested in seeing the continuation of the 'fashion magazine owner uses Dracula as her instrument of revenge' story. I can see that being very juicy stuff.
And that second part, with the Indian vampire kid, is very nicely-done and poignant and all, but there's a detail about it that annoys me - the crucifixes.
Why are there crucifixes on the walls? The guy himself says that they're symbols of a religion that he doesn't believe in - so why are they there? The point has been made in Dracula's X-Men crossover (which really should be posted here, by the way, if it hasn't already) that it's not the symbol itself that has the power, it's the belief behind it. Wolverine, an atheist, makes the symbol of the cross with his claws - Dracula scoffs and KO's him. Nightcrawler, a religious man, does the same thing, and Dracula goes 'ARRRGGHH!' and recoils. Therefore, if this man is a Hindu, which is clearly implied, he ought to have Hindu symbols on his walls, not Christian ones. If belief repels vampires, then a few statues of Shiva and Ganesha should do just the same thing here.

That made me pause too. Here are some fanwankings I have made of it!

Firstly, I'm pretty sure that this issue was published before Nightcrawler's debut, so the belief-of-the-holder would be a retcon anyhow. Quincy Harker doesn't give the impression of being a devout man, but religious symbols work for him when fighting Dracula, so. Maybe Wolverine just did it wrong? :/

Secondly, Taj would likely have seen the crucifix work against Dracula in his travels with Rachel Van Helsing and gang; in such a delicate case as his own son I'm sure he would want to try everything he could.

Thirdly, his wife may have put it there in desperation, having been alone with the vampire child for so long (what a dick move, Taj).

Fourth, they might live in an area where Christian iconography isn't uncommon, they may know Christians.. the boy may have grown up with a mild accidental belief in Jesus.

I definitely agree there should be Hindu symbols in evidence, but I don't think it's necessary to remove Christian ones. Dracula is so into cursing God that it makes sense to me that protecting against him/his influence in this way makes sense. Particularly actual Christian stuff (proper crucifix with dead Jesus on cross), rather than a makeshift finger-cross. I'd argue that it may have been the crappiness of the crossed fingers that make Dracula laugh at Wolverine, and Kurt's extreme faith which made such a rubbish cross actually work.

I'll look out the rest of the Fashion Revenge story, then! Glad you enjoyed it.

I would argue that Quincy Harker DID believe very strongly in one thing - his crusade against Dracula. Lifelong obsessions can have just as strong a hold on the brain as a strong belief in religion - if he believed, very strongly, not in the intrinsic power of the cross as a holy symbol, but that 'they say crosses hurt vampires, and I REALLY REALLY want to hurt you, Dracula, so when I hold it up, this things gonna HURT you, or I'll know the reason why.'
I suppose you're right - I don't know anything about Taj's background. Still, it would be kickASS to run across, say, a Jewish vampire hunter who used the Star of David, or a Wiccan one who used the Antlers of Cernunnos, or something. (What would be REALLY cool would be if there were a sort of international headquarters for vampire hunters that was patterned all over with every conceivable religious symbol ever created worldwide, dating back to caveman days. No WAY any vampire is gettin' in there!)
Also, just to clarify - Wolvie didn't cross his fingers, he crossed his CLAWS. He went 'SNIKT', then crossed 'em in a crucifix-shape. Dracula sneered at this and knocked him out, with the claws still extended, then Kurt took hold of his friend's arms and manipulated them so that the claws made a cross again. It was considerably more badass than a little finger-cross.

Actually later in the series a Star of David is used to repel Dracula by a Jewish man!

Good point about Quincy.

Which, apparently, Jewish readers and commentators have found ridiculous, given that they don't generally invest that particular symbol with the same religious devotion that most branches of the Christian faith regard the cross. Had he used the Torah, that might have been better.
