A date with Giganta
In this preview of Wonder Woman #36 Giganta says she's on her way to a date when she runs into Wonder Woman's fist. Speculation is hopeful that her date is Ryan Choi. Here's a quick look at their first date from issue 3 of "The All New Atom."

Ryan's co-worker at Ivy University is the lovely Prof. Doris Zuel aka Giganta. She puts the moves on Ryan pretty quickly (i.e. he discovers she has a tongue piercing) and asks orders him on a date.

She looks really good there. Giganta's choice of wardrobe is usually ghastly. The jumpsuit she's been wearing lately isn't bad. But the leopard skin two piece? Or the pink dress with one shoulder strap? Ugh. And she can't accessorize for shit (Donna Troy as a necklace? The chunky bracelets?) And she is known to not always wear underwear. (Which can or cannot be a good thing depending on the circumstances.)

Guess that solves the spits or swallows question.

Oh, that didn't go well, did it? Oh, and on another date with Ryan she gets in a fight with Wonder Woman. Getting beat up before the date doesn't portend for a good night, does it?

Who is the artist? The work looks very Byrne-like but you are right about the faces being a bit off.

Yeah, it turns out that this sleepy college town is actually the secret battleground of a war between microscopic aliens and a horrible cancer god. Sort of a science vs magic, order vs chaos thing going on.

M'Nagallah, from the old Berni Wrightson Swamp Thing stories?

Huh! I didn't even know that M'Magallah was from previous comics. Learn something new everyday.

This does make sense though. Later in the series you see his cultists going to the drive-in to watch an awesome movie, in which actors in hilariously low-budget Swamp Thing and Cancer God costumes duke it out. You can probably guess who wins.

The juxtaposition of the screaming woman and Giganta in that last scan is priceless. As is the "haven't made it to her face yet" comment. Gotta love honesty!

I have to admit I was kind of shocked by Giganta suddenly going big...and naked. Very, very naked. Only Gail could get away with that, and that's why we love her!

According to Wikipedia:

In Justice League: Cry For Justice #1, Ray and Ryan are seen fighting Killer Moth together and at the end of the battle both of them show respect towards each other, with Ray asking Ryan to continue using the Atom name.

Gail left the title due to editorial disagreements, and they stopped publishing it, and NONE OF THOSE CHARACTERS HAVE BEEN SEEN SINCE.

Well, Gail's always pretty careful and diplomatic when she talks about this stuff, mostly just "they wanted to take the title in a different direction than me" sort of thing, but the gist I got from her comments, which now of course I have no idea where I read, was that she wanted to do quirky ludicrous chaos and they wanted to see sober boilerplate hero and maybe some angsty horror. Hence, Gail left the title and Remender came on and the quirky ludicrous chaos turned into sober boilerplate hero with some angsty horror (I'm extrapolating the editorial desire for angsty horror from its presence there, but I'm reasonably sure about the sober boilerplate business).

Yes that's what I remember too. She said she and the editors didn't see eye to eye. But claimed DiDio wasn't an issue and was a supporter. Didn't help that the sales were awful. I think they gave her alot of slack because it was her, but in the end they wanted a change in tone.

Damn shame.

Aw, when I first saw scans of this, I thought that it was only the creepy crud on her back making her so amorous. If I'd only known that there was ship potential. Three of my first icons were from this issue -- April 2007? Where does the time go.

Google Image Search on "Giganta" was how I found scans_daily.

Whoa, her booty looks really, really sweet in the mouf fullf fuf fopforn panel.

Hee hee, speaking of booty - last panel:

All the things I've seen of Ryan Choi make him seem really subby. Anyone else getting that impression? Or maybe he's just lacking the needless machoism of most male heroes these days, but a submissive male as a hero would be kind of interesting.
