Sometimes Bella really felt like she needed to do more, she should have a job that actually helped the war effort, instead of just showing people around Mako Island, she liked having Mako though and it did make her feel more grounded, regardless, she did wish she was doing more. She was so proud of Chuck when he’d told her he was moving jobs to security, she knew he’d miss the shelter, but she knew he’d be brilliant in security too.
She’d picked up a couple of smoothies, and a few extras for his co-workers and headed into the base. The base always had a busy feeling to Bella, like something was always about to happen, her mind was so lost in it that when she turned a corner she nearly tripped. Steadying herself she took a few breaths in before starting towards security again.
Working security was somehow both fulfilling and boring to Rogue. She hadn’t wanted to be an agent here - she’d spent too many years of her life doing that back home. Whether it was with the Brotherhood or the X-Men or just out on her own. Taking a break from being on the front lines was what she’d wanted, right? Right. Or so she’d said. So she was still sorta telling herself - at least she was a reserve though, she just had to hope she’d get called up eventually. Enough excitement to keep her on her toes, but not enough to totally drag her back in. She’d earned the vacation.
Rogue had been walking towards the direction Bella was coming from when she’d seen the other girl almost bite it when she took the corner. Stepping slightly to the side she took a few steps forward, turning on her heel neatly, “Ya okay there?” She asked, her southern drawl obvious with every word she spoke. “Ah saw ya go an’ almost take ya’self out on that corner.” The statement was a little sarcastic, but no one would have called the tone mean. “Woulda been real bad for those drinks.”
Bella smiled with a little bit of a blush. She had her clumsy moments, but she decided to do her best not to feel bad about it in that moment.
"I guess I just lost my balance for a second," she offered with a shrug. She did her best not to look too embarrassed by it. "I was just on my way to see Chuck," she said for no real reason. "But I brought some extra smoothies if you'd like one." Bella offered.
Rogue felt a little bad at the girl’s blush. She didn’t have to be well acquainted with Bella to be able to read that ‘sweet, cinnamon bun, marshmallow’ were probably the top three descriptions of her. Rogue liked people like Bella - she’d never been that girl, she definitely wasn’t that woman, she was rough around the edges in a charming ‘yet still somehow a Southern belle’ way.
“Happens to tha best of us, sugah.” The mostly-brunette said with a light laugh, “He’s probably ‘round somewhere. Might be on patrol. But ah ain’t one to turn down a smoothie.”
Smiling she nodded, she knew she happened to be a little bit more clumsy than most. She mostly just shrugged it off at this point but she still blushed about it.
“Some more than others,” she admitted softly. “Yeah, I figured he might be, but I think his break is coming up soon and I figured I might as well stop by and bring refreshments for everyone.” Bella nodded to the smoothies. “Well, there are a few different flavours,” she offered showing the labels of the ones that were for his co-workers.
Rogue leaned in, her long brown hair - with its tell-tale streaks at the front - swishing in front of her as she squinted and eventually plucked out one of the fruitier ones. It was a pretty sort of color. And as she pulled back her eyes flicked back up to Bella.
Taking a sip first, she continued talking to the blonde. Laughing lightly she nodded, “I know a fair few mutants that would prolly lose their heads if they weren’t attached right to their necks.” Smiling, she took another sip - she had to give credit where it was due, it was definitely delicious. “Good to get visitors ‘round here anyway. Much as its an important job, ain’t like its one that’s… day to day exciting.” If Rogue hadn’t been so just… used to the fact that everything was probably going to go wrong at a moments notice, she probably wouldn’t have said something so likely to jynx herself.
“I think that’s just a people thing,” she smiled softly. “We all seem to lose our heads now and again.” She didn’t mean literally of course but forgetting something, or tripping, or getting lost in thought. Bella figured it happened to most everyone at least once or twice.
“So it’s been quiet lately?” Bella asked mostly out of conversation rather than trying to get information.
Rogue was finding it real easy to, well, find things easy around Atlantis. They were exciting, but not in the dubious way (at least while she’d been here, thankfully she missed out on most of the Games) and that was a real change for the mutant who walked alongside the mermaid. “Well if that ain’t the truth.” She said with another grin.
“Gotta admit its been quiet by my standards…” Her grin widened and she looked ahead, stifling a chuckle, “But then again, not many people around here prolly go by any as out there as mine.” From what she’d heard at least - Atlantis was sure as hell ready to give even her life a run for its money.
Bella shrugged a little bit. “I think a lot of people here have lives at home that are in some ways a lot crazier than things in Atlantis, or at least more intense, or just a different kind of an intense.” She didn’t really think one was more busy or crazy than the other. She’d heard too many things for her friends here about the worlds that they lived in and the things they dealt with. She sure thought they all sounded a little more crazy than day to day Atlantis life, at least when Atlantis wasn’t doing something really crazy.
“Atlantis has really crazy moments, but sometimes it seems to settle down and people can get a taste of regular life when they might have had it before.”
There was no sense of ‘regular life’ that Rogue thought she would have ever recognized. She’d gotten kinda close when her and Remy had been away from the other mutants and the Avengers and just everything that came with those lives. But even as a child… Rogue had been raised on a hippie commune so it wasn’t even like her normal life had actually… well, been all that normal.
Rogue pursed her lips and looked over at Bella, “Gotta have those moments though.” She said, maybe a little too honestly. “Gotta give it to tha island. Had a lot more calm here than I ever had other wise.” She turned it into a joking statement, rather than something that could be read in another way.
"Careful what you say!" Bella teased. "You never know when we might end up thinking we are completely different people again living in a totally different place." If Bella were honest though she liked aspects of Breckentale, the family she'd gained from it.
"Well, I better get this to Chuck!" She smiled. "I still have to get back to work later this arvo," Bella's work wasn't all that exciting either, mostly hanging out on Mako and showing people around if anyone even came.
“Well, kinda done that before at least.” Rogue said with a laugh before she gave Bella a little nod, “You go find him, and tell him thank ya on my behalf for gettin’ ya to bring us treats.” And with a little wink, Rogue slipped away to get back to her rounds - smoothie in hand as she went.
