Who: Emma and Knightley
When: Late afternoon
What: The Knightleys take their honeymoon
In spite of their wedding having happened two months ago, it was only now that the newlyweds were able to partake in a honeymoon that included a small bit of travel. Still, it did pain Emma to leave her father alone. And Henry, fond of both his daughter and the man who gave his own estates up for the time to be with both of them, must have known this. He must have known and gathered up the fortitude to deal with quiet and lonely nights. Because he was the one to give his blessing to the trip, gruffly adding that he was a grown man and had no need of being mother-henned. It helped that the good and dear Mrs. Weston agreed to tend to Emma's father during the daytime for a few hours each day while Miss Bates offered her own charitable time afterwards.
So, with that all squared away, Emma was properly excited to travel and see whatever may have been in store. And after being told that the place, Sandition, was a resort by the seaside, she was even more excited. It had been a passing comment in regards to travel, that she had never been to the ocean, but there her Knightley had been, listening carefully and being far too smug about it now.
With little thought to how it may look to passerby, Emma drew back the curtain of the carriage window and leaned over just enough to smell the air. It was refreshing, and different than the landlocked village in a way that she couldn't put her finger on, beyond the saltiness of the air of course. "Oh, Knightley! It's absolutely lovely." This said as she turned back to her husband, a warm smile appearing.
