Layout: Record of Arrest, police file

A layout of a police file or criminal record was requested here, and I thought it was a neat idea. This particular layout is specific to Marvel games, but could be tweaked for any kind of setting. Good for criminals and police officers and for the grittier sort of games.

DEPARTMENT OF POLICE, City, State

CODE:

EXAMPLES OF USE:
Record of arrest, supernatural PSL
Permanent record, high school game

NOTES:
1. It would be nice if you uploaded the background image (here) to your own webspace.
2. The character's "mugshot" should be 150 pixels wide and 215 pixels high.
3. The text is meant to be brief -- this isn't a deposition or detailed record of crimes, just a quick reference sheet for the cops. Also, writing too much will screw up the table cells, and then it doesn't look as nice. :( Therefore, using abbreviations and sentence fragments is good. Less is more. For information and legal terms in writing about crimes, check out your state's penal code, which is probably online somewhere -- for example, here's the New York State penal code.
4. Modify to your heart's content. If you're having any trouble or find any errors, please let me know.
5. A link to [info]rp_tutorials somewhere would be great, so others can find this if they want.
6. If you use it, feel free to comment with a link and I'll post it up here. I don't have an example up yet, since my character doesn't actually have a record as of yet, so it'd be nice to have an example or two to link to.
7. Oh, and credit where credit's due: I sort-of-but-not-really used this image as a point of reference.

This is really dope! I have a character at my comm that's a bad girl that I'm just waiting for her to get arrested (and ironically, I play Lindsay Lohan as the bad girl, so at least the mugshot pic will be easy to find) because of the shiz she's doing. Thanks for this! I will definitely use it come time when she gets arrested!

Aw, thanks! It was the product of a 3 a.m. inspiration flash, so... yeah, it was either going to be awesome or terrible. :)

Absolutely amazing. It makes me wish I was in a game where I could use it. Pretty HTML always does that, though...

Thanks! Yeah, I don't have a use for half the stuff I see here and want to use.

And hey, good luck with NaNo! :)

The irony of this is I have mutants in my NaNo, but it's most definitely not modern enough for anything like this. My next year's might be, though. Who knows? I love mutants.

Now if I could find a code for like an NYPD personnel file that'd be perfect. XD

Hm. I bet you could modify this pretty easily for that purpose, if you like this general style. Or like... do you have any example pictures handy, or just an idea of what kind of information should be on there? I'm pretty clueless about official documents unless I have an example to go from, but I could see what I can do. :)

...I've spent two hours on google trying to find a picture or example document and you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find one!

I like this. A lot. I was thinking of doing something like this at NYX, making some dedicated game pages regarding registration - do you think I can use this? And do you have a larger version of JP's record? (My eyes are bad...)

HEY YOU, guess what, I just saw that I had missed this comment like a month and a half ago. I'm sorry. D: Your question: yes, yes, use it if you like! And the stuff for JP is totally made-up and should not be taken as gospel, because he hasn't actually been arrested and doesn't have a record. YET. But I do have the actual post of it on his journal. :)

Sweet! Thanks! Ha! I think what I'm going to do at NYX is make a post like "The Sentinel Files" and have a sample (like Rogue for instance) and then have an text area where people can C&P (like the application) and submit to that page and then I can make up the the records and yay!

I have a filled out record here, with credit to you in my profile.

It's only his first arrest, so I changed the wording a bit, and took out the mutant section since it's for a supernatural PSL.

This really is awesome! I know it's pretty standard table code, but I never would have thought to make this, and having it all built nice and pretty is fabulous! Posted it for this character here with credit :)

Have loved this code for awhile. We're going to be using it as a game sheet at an HP game. Sample Here. We altered it to what we needed so it looks a smidge different. Thanks for the great backbone!

If you want to use it on insanejournal or any similar site, you can use it in an entry by copying and pasting the code from the text box and editing in your own information. Anything inside the < > brackets is HTML code and if you don't know HTML you probably shouldn't mess with it too much. Anything outside is text and can be edited.

A good way to edit if you're not sure what you're doing is to use a code tester like this one from tessisamess. Paste the code in on the left and make your edits, and the result will show up immediately on the right so you can see right away if you make any errors or break the code.

Hope that helps! :)
