quicklog: newt and adrian at the museum
Who: Newt and Adrian
What: A visit to the museum.
Where: The Capital
When: Fuzzy timeline, recently.
[Adrian had been looking forward to the museum trip for some time, through long nights of work and quiet days spent thinking about his next door neighbor. It hadn't escaped him that he and Newt hadn't managed to actually go anywhere, and the idea of going to the Capital with him excited him in a private, perhaps childish way. His one memory of visiting the Capital's mysterious Natural History Museum was fuzzy, a field trip from childhood. They said that the place held strange secrets, and while he didn't expect that they would unearth them today, he was genuinely looking forward to simply perusing cases full of dead things with Newt.
He knocked on Newt's door at the B&B at the agreed-upon time, sharply punctual. The last few weeks had been a litany of sleepless nights, waking up tired over and over, and a series of experiments that had left him stymied at the end of a critical research path. He couldn't need this pleasant afternoon more. The party had been a mess of half-remembered confessions to a practical stranger. She had turned out to be quite nice, but the only real worry he had when Newt opened the door was that she might not have been true to her word. Whatever she knew about him - whatever he'd said that he didn't remember, he felt sure it was nothing Newt needed to know about him. It had been a long ten years apart, and they were really just renewing their acquaintance, sex or no sex. Even something small but troubling could push Newt away. And Adrian did not want to push Newt away.
He was dressed simply, in slacks from work and a white button-down, light enough for the spring warmth. Where Newt was always beautifully, colorfully, anachronistically turned out, Adrian usually opted for something clean and uncomplicated: a well-tailored pair of trousers, a pale triangle of clavicle and skin, expensive but light linens, blacks and whites.]
