[Curiouser and curiouser, the story of the desecrated holy sites continues to develop.
While those responsible have not yet been apprehended, the police interview of the preacher, recorded and sitting in the casefile, makes for interesting listening, as does the preacher himself once released. He has not returned to his church - he has, instead, been seen downtown, pacing alleyways and holding intimate conversations with the homeless and destitute.
What does he have to say? He says his mind has been opened to a new lord, and his view of this universe expanded. He has been freed from shackles on his faith, and his soul has been opened to an all-encompassing belief, broader and deeper than any he can feel for a single God. He has not given up his deity. Far from it - he has simply relearned the limits of faith, and now serves more than just one God. He says he may even add a few more, given time. He fervently believes his faith is the deeper the more heavenly beings he holds faith in.
Who is this new object of devotion added to his heavenly striving? He has no name for it.
'The sun.' That's all. 'The sun that scorches away imperfections. The sun that spreads, and the heat that catches, skin to skin.' This is obviously not much help to the police, and he will not say who desecrated the church. 'Deliverers.' Only this.
A week after the preacher's church is desecrated, the apartment building next door reports seeing lights in the shuttered building well past midnight.]
