Alicia had been debating with herself for two days how to approach this. She knew that no matter what happened, George was going to be devastated. There was no avoiding that. But she didn't want to make it any harder on him than it had to be. Would it be better to be short and unemotional, so that perhaps he would see her as the villain who used him? Would hating her make it easier? Or should she tell him the truth, that she really did love him, but they just weren't right for each other--that they would have had a future together if Terence hadn't gotten to her first? Or would that be cruel not allow him to move on. Honestly, she had no idea. No idea what she was going to say to him. All she knew was that her sister was right, and she needed to tell him. He deserved to know that she'd made her decision. That it wasn't a dream and she and Terence had a real shot at fixing their broken marriage. She wished that the easy thing was the thing she wanted most. Choosing George would be easy. She could just sign a piece of paper--it wasn't like she and Terence had ever had many assets together--and be with the kind boy she'd known for more than a decade. But as much as she wanted to be able to do that, she wanted a future with her husband more than anything. She just needed to tell George that. During lunch Wednesday, she'd made the decision to tell him on her way home from work. They lived very close, so really, it was almost on her way. When she wrapped up her work for the evening, she slowly put her coat on and wrapped her scarf around her neck, before making her way out of the building and Apparating to Diagon. Her stomach was in knots and she felt like throwing up, but to her credit, she didn't just walk past his building and into her own. No, she forced herself up the steps and knocked on his door. |
