Slytherin100 - Drabble Dump
All the Slytherin100 drabbles, except for those pertaining to Regulus Black, belong to my post-war, slightly AU (Severus Snape and Remus Lupin are still alive) world, the setting for all the Millicent/Rosmerta stories, Moonlight Investigations and The Beginning of All Negotiation (my Pansy/Kingsley fic).
For those formerly of Slytherin House, times are harsh, employment near impossible, and some have been killed by those stupid enough to believe all Slytherins are Death Eaters and were sympathetic to Voldemort.

It is a little-known fact that Draco Malfoy was a most superior gourmet chef. In truth, cooking gave him great pleasure; he was never happier than when hearing moans and exclamations of sincere delight from those fortunate few he invited for dinner.
He would perform all the cooking preparations himself, although he did allow the house-elves’ assistance in acquiring exotic ingredients. They had always performed reliably, so it was with some surprise that he found his preparations for his much-admired Breast of Squab with Morel Mushrooms disrupted by the unheralded arrival of a crowd of people into his kitchen.
“I said ‘squabs’, you idiots, not ‘squibs’.”

Challenge: #5 – hero

Author’s notes: Set after the Battle of Hogwarts. MoM = Ministry of Magic. Oh, and Snape is alive because of course he didn’t actually die! As for Lupin, well, it’s just not that easy to kill a werewolf without a silver weapon.
Pansy: “And I would have loved to see the Professor – Mill won’t tell me what he said or did; she refuses to confirm if emergency medical treatment was required, or how bad the injuries were, or what hexes were used, or even how many Aurors were called in. All she will tell me is that a desk and a filing cabinet were sacrificed to the cause. And that the only reason the Professor wasn’t arrested was because of our beloved Minister’s direct intervention. And that the Professor in assault-and-attack mode is even more impressive than she imagined. And that Lupin’s no slouch.” – from “The Beginning of all Negotiations”

Walking back into Hogwarts to face the NEWTs examiners took a little more courage than Millicent liked to acknowledge.
Walking into the MoM to protest her failing the NEWTs required no extra courage; fueled by her anger, bolstered by the comforting presence of her former Head-of-House and Lupin at her side, Millicent strode proudly into the office.
Her angry words were not required. Her only role that day was to assist Lupin in calming the Professor. And a little damage control, although the desk and the filing cabinet were beyond saving.
Thanks to Snape, she did receive all six NEWTs

Set just before the arrival of the Hogwarts train at Hogsmeade Station in PoA.
It rained the day Severus started creating the potion. It rained as though the sky were weeping, bleeding – each raindrop a miniature globe containing a story of pain.
Severus chopped, and crushed, and prepared each ingredient meticulously, before adding them to the cauldron. He allowed himself to hope he would be successful – he did not think he could bear it if did not work.
Finally, it was finished, faintly steaming, a potion of the darkest green with a faint silvery sheen.
Severus poured himself an exactly measured dose, and without hesitation swallowed it.
Now he was prepared for Lupin’s arrival as the newest teacher at Hogwarts.

In the Shifting Firelight
Although the Common Room was not generally the best place for quiet contemplation, tonight Regulus found himself remaining on the leather sofa long after all others had gone to bed. The fire crackled and hissed, shadows seemed to move in the shifting firelight.
He had much thinking to do – an important decision to make. Lucius Malfoy had outlined the proposal, and Severus Snape had reluctantly added some details. His parents would surely be proud, he would be with Severus, and Sirius would be livid! That thought decided him – despite Severus’s subtle dissuasions and enigmatic hints, he would do it, and make Sirius furious.

Common to Slytherins
“What…?” Severus asked.
Regulus interrupted, “I’m going to do it,” he said. “I’m really going to do it.” Elated, Regulus boldly did as he had wanted for so long – he grabbed Severus and pulled his body against his and kissed him. “I’m going to join the Dark Lord,” he exalted.
Severus looked at him, his eyes dark and unfathomable, and whispered “Don’t…”, his lips pressed against his own.
“But…”
Severus’s eyes, now as dark and soft as midnight, met his own, “Please don’t.”
Regulus declared, “I will. Nothing can stop me from being with you.”
Severus’s kiss was as piercing and sweet as melancholic regret.
Title: Rain and sleet and hail

December is the month of rains, and storms, and sometimes, of snow. More commonly, rain. Endless days of rain and sleet and hail. Days spent indoors, looking out through cold rain-stained-glass. Days and nights spent wondering; deciding; planning.
Tonight there was thunder and lightning. Thunder and lightning punctuating the rain and sleet and hail.
That last crack of lightning flared actinic-bright. Close, too close. “Come, Kreacher,” he called. The note was written, it was now time.
"I know I will be dead long before you read this but I want you to know that it was I who discovered your secret."

Title: As Bright as the Sun.
Author: red_day_dawning
Character/s: Regulus Black; Sirius Black
Prompt: #7 - starlight
Rating: Gen

Transformed from the original posted at Slytherin_100
A brother as bright as the Sun.
Regulus speaks:-
Every day, under the bright sun, we all walk in starlight. We call it sunlight, but that is just a way of saying our star light. Our starlight: it brings warmth and light; in its bright illumination shadows may be revealed.
Our sun, one star among a whole sky of stars.
In that sky of stars is Sirius - a star as bright as the sun, as warm as the sun. Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky - the subject of more legends and folktales than any other star, other than the sun.
Of course he was named Sirius. He shone as brightly as the brightest star. He shone so brightly, my glimmer could not be seen.
In the brightness of the day, the sky seems clear of stars. They are there, present but unseen.

Written for InsaneJournal’s slytherin100 – challenge #4 – futile
Slamming the door behind her as the wind caught it, Millicent looked up to see all eyes upon her. Steadily walking through the now-silent crowd of drinkers, she reached the stairs when she heard a loud whisper, “Death-Eater scum!”
Even as she was turning, wand in hand, Rosmerta yelled “Here, I’ll have none of that in my inn. You want to falsely accuse some-one of crimes and spread vicious lies, you drink some-where else.”
Standing with her hands on her hips. Rosmerta challenged, “Well, anyone got something to say?”
No-one spoke, no-one moved till Millicent said “Leave it Rosmerta, it’s futile. They won’t say a word till your back’s turned.”

Pansy closed the shop-door gently. What she wanted to do was slam it hard, and then hex it into thousands of pieces. For all of the Minister of Magic’s press releases about “the innocence of most Slytherins” no-one wanted to hire a suspected Death-Eater.
Stifling the longing to apparate to The Three Broomsticks, where she knew Rosmerta would fuss over her, for Mill’s sake if no other reason, she reluctantly apparated to her only hope for money.
“Knew you’d be back, dearie”, the hag cackled. “Your regular client is waiting for you.”
“Hello, Shacklebolt”, Pansy said, carefully closing the bedroom door behind her.
Title: A Path Limned with Light
Author: red_day_dawning
Prompt: # 11 - delusional
Word count: 100
Characters: Regulus Black; Kreacher
Rating: G
Warning/s: none
Disclaimer: JKR owns all Harry Potter characters and situations
Madness to think it would ever work; madness to fail through lack of trying. Insanity to stay and entirely delusional to go.
A burst of harsh, terrible laughter, a sound wholly without humour, startled him until he recognized the laughter as his own.
It didn’t matter, he realized, for all paths lead to the darkness outside and the shadows within. And with that thought, he felt an inner strength, a resolution; he could imagine a path before him, limned with light.
“Kreacher,” Regulus called. “You must tell no-one in the family what we are about to do.”
Title: Unblemished, Unflawed.
Author: red_day_dawning
Prompt: corruption

Draco examined the red, walnut-sized fruit in front of him, chewing his bottom-lip in concentration. Carefully he began to peel away the thick skin. As his blade pierced the outer surface, it plunged in, puncturing the fruit.
A noxious-smelling, brown fluid began to gush over his hands; he flinched and dropped the fruit with a cry of disgust. Drops of the foul liquid squirted into the bubbling cauldron, causing the fluid to boil over in gushes of pungent bubbles.
“It seems Draco is demonstrating the importance of using only the freshest ingredients in this potion,” Slughorn called out to the students recoiling from the stench.
Draco frowned: he had examined the entire surface. How could the unblemished, unflawed surface contain such corruption within?
~*~
Draco observed that madness could take many forms. The very times seemed to demand it.
The obvious lunatic raving of his dear Aunt Bellatrix. The red-eyed gleam of His megalomania. The Carrows, saliva dripping from their mouths, gleeful and hungry as they watched another’s agony.
And there were more subtle variations on madness. His father, combing his hair into strands of silvery-silk, while his world collapsed around him. His Headmaster becoming daily more brittle, as though his strength would never falter or bend, but he himself might snap.
And himself: befouled to the very core, distorted beyond all reprieve or repair. Or so he feared. Hoped.
