Leaves

Carving pumpkins, dancing in the leaves, drinking apple cider. All we're missing is the scent of fresh-baked pie.

There was a time I'd have mocked such a show of sentimentality. Truth be known, I'm on the verge of doling out that special brand of Kinney humor right now.

Then Justin tosses Gus into a pile of fall leaves and my son shrieks with laughter. And I can't stop my sneer from twitching into a smile.

That's when Justin looks up. The approval, the pride in his eyes create yet another crack in the façade that is Brian Kinney, jackass extraordinaire.
