Who: Elijah, Hayley and Clara
When: Saturday night
What: ... Date night? Then troubles.
Where: Hayley's home to start
Warnings: Cover your eyes, Elijah might do some baby talk. And then rip out some hearts. Maybe.
Watching Hayley with Clara was a sight to see. Hayley had always had a sort of spark in her, but seeing her with her own child was remarkable. Although she had lived with his brother Niklaus, Elijah had been to see her when it was right for Hayley. She, after all needed to secure a relationship with his brother, this he knew and while normally his first instinct were to protect the both of them, Elijah knew it was for the best. It was important, not only to Hayley, but to his brother as well. He had noticed the changes in his brother, but he was not disillusioned to the fact that while Niklaus was content, he was still Niklaus. Priorities have changed drastically, but there was always that sort of determination in his brother. He would be ready.
Tonight was one of those nights when Elijah would call on her. It was the end of the week and since Niklaus seemed to have no problems with Elijah and Hayley’s arrangement, there was no need to bring it up. If his brother was in fact hassling Hayley over it, Hayley did not share it. And just because he chose not to bring it up did not mean that it wasn’t on his mind. It was just something else that he would have to worry about. Rebekah had this problem with him and Elijah had been a problem for Rebekah to a fault as well. There was that saying – the calm before the storm. That’s all this was.
When he arrived at Hayley and Niklaus’s home, he did not see anyone, but he did hear Hayley upstairs. She was talking quietly to the baby and he carefully shut the door behind him. The home was rather littered with Clara’s belongings and he smiled as he took it all in. Once he was upstairs, he walked to the room where Hayley was and pushed the door in slowly.
He saw her then, sitting in a rocking chair and holding onto the dear child. Motherhood looked incredibly well on Hayley and he never thought he would think that. Her whole appearance, the air around her changed when he was around Clara. It made him envy his brother with every sight he took in, that he could be around her and share this with her. His thoughts would drift that perhaps it was him that was Clara’s father, but just as quick as those thoughts seeped in, he would discard them. Niklaus finally had the family that he had so craved, he was proud, even if the girl that he cared about so unconditionally had a piece of Niklaus that Elijah never thought could be taken.
“Hello,” he whispered as he slowly made his way over. He moved toward the side, looking down at the both of them. Hayley always told him that Clara was perfect, and while she was, it was also Hayley. Perfect.
“I thought I would take you to dinner.”
