WHO: Annie Sawyer and Lauren, probably Mitchell later
WHAT: Trying to deal with the new vampire in town?
WHEN: Shortly after Lauren's messageboard post
WHERE: The house Lauren's in
RATING: Possibly high for death etc
STATUS: Incomplete

It was funny, she was supposed to be able to deal with these kinds of things. She'd proved she could cope with vampires before she'd ended up here. She'd got her own revenge on Owen and she's stood by Mitchell and George's side while Herrick had ranted on about taking over the world and she'd been calm. This was different though. Lauren was complicated, she'd helped them. She'd asked Mitchell to kill her because she knew it was for the best but here she was. And she'd killed a whole bloody family and yet Annie had kept that fact to herself rather than tell A.I.

It was difficult to find her, Annie's powers were hardly easy to control and the problem with the city was that there was quite a lot of death to feel, to shift through before she find the people she was looking for. They weren't ghosts, thank god. She really didn't feel much like having to explain everything to a family that had been killed by someone she knew. There were more important things. But she could feel something lingering, they stayed close together and that was how she found the house.

Telporting straight there she looked around for a moment, noting a little dog barking agitatedly just outside. Ignoring it she walked up to the door, pausing to ready herself before walking inside.

"Lauren?" she called, focusing all her energy on staying calm. "It's Annie."

Lauren hadn't left the house, she'd wandered around impossibly enough trying to clean up a little, but there was no way, no way she could clean up what she'd done. And they hadn't had any tea.

She had the weirdest craving for tea.

That was when she heard the ghost. Surreal that, a ghost coming to help out a Vampire, but Mitchell and his friends were nothing if not surreal. She'd been in the kitchen, stepping over the body of the father when Annie appeared in the little hallway.

Her face wasn't bloody anymore but it was still visible on her clothes, her arms.

"Do we leave them here...I mean, its not like the police'll work it out will they. I dunno what...Herrick normally just made the investigations go away y'know?"

She didn't like feeling like she did, not at all, but the blood was still warm in her stomach and that at least gave her something.

Annie tried very hard not to look around the house much. She didn't want to see the bodies, even while she could feel the death.

She was glad she was dead, if she hadn't been she was pretty sure she'd have been throwing up at this point.

"I don't...we can probably blame something else, another vampire. I don't know if they normally break into houses like this but..." she trailed off. What the hell was she doing? Why was she trying to cover this up. "As long as they can't put it on you it should be okay. People die all the time here. It's not like back home. The city's full of people capable of this kind of thing." She laughed, almost hysterically. "I'm supposed to be stopping them."

She took a step closer, trying to ignore the blood on Lauren's clothes. "You can't do this again, okay? We can't keep doing this. We might be able to help, the people I work for I just...I don't know. You just need help, that's all. We can can get you that, yeah?"

City full of people capable of doing this, things like her, yeah there was a glowing advertisment of why to stay. Lauren couldn't do this, she couldn't keep doing this, she knew that.

But she'd asked Mitchell to kill her once already, doing that again would just be cruel. But if it came to it, if she couldn't

"Yeah, I...I could try, But I tried before he said he'd help me. Said I could be like him, but I don't know how he does it Annie? I don't know how he stops himself, cause after days its screaming in my mind y'know, tearing at me. He's stronger than Ill ever be"

She laughed, in spite of the situation, maybe in spite of herself.

"You're supposed to be stopping people like me then yeah? How come you're not?"

"And I'm sure he'll help you again," Annie replied. "I know it isn't easy. He's told me what it's like, how hard it is. How much willpower it takes." She really didn't know what to say to make it easier for Lauren, because the fact was she had no idea what it was like for either for them. She couldn't even begin to imagine.

"Who says I'm not?" she asked. "I'm not here to kill you if that's what you mean. I was there when you killed Seth, Lauren. When she asked Mitchell to kill you. Monsters don't do things like that. I think...I want to help you and I'm sure he does too. We're just not sure how. There's another vampire where I work, I could find out what he does for-for blood. The thing is I can't take you back there at the moment because I can't be sure you won't lose control again and I'm not blaming you for that. I know you're not doing any of this because you want to. It's just safer if we keep an eye on you for a while, safer for all of us. Because there are people out there that'll kill you and I'd just rather give you a chance, okay? Does that make sense?"

Seth.

Yeah she remembered that, taking the chance, that one chance to help Mitchell, to get them out, get them free, Give them a legitimate shot at Herrick. She didn't live to see it of course. And that was better, but here she was again with some kind of second chance for whatever reason. But they were being careful, talking about keeping an eye on her, talking about other vampires at the place where she worked. Blood.

"Ugh no..." she said almost without thinking, At the mention of the blood, the cold dead blood that she knew Annie meant.

"Sorry...only...it won't do anything, whatever that other vampire does. Mitchell tried once, got me blood in a packet and its not gonna do any good. Makes things worse in a way. Its only good when it's fresh"

She sighed, of course they had to keep an eye on her.

"I understand. I'll go wherever and I'll try, I really will. But I tried before Annie, I always try. Its horrible"

Annie was quickly realising she was out of her depth here. She had no idea what Lauren was going through. She didn't know enough about vampires, she barely knew enough about ghosts. She was just a girl that happened to have died and stuck around. She wasn't cut out for this, not really.

"I don't know what to say," she admitted. "I just...I want to help." Yes she'd said it already, but really what else was there to say? The worse thing was from what Mitchell had said it didn't get any easier and she didn't want to say that to Lauren, because without hope what did she have?

"I was thinking we could find a motel, for a night or two?" she suggested, deciding to focus on the more normal, practical side of things because it was easier. "So we'll find somewhere and then I'll get Mitchell to meet us there? Okay?" She stepped closer, feeling sort of awkward, it occurred to her that perhaps she needed a hug, but then she and Lauren were very different people, so perhaps that was the last thing she needed. "You can do this, yeah?" she said. "We'll help you. You'll have proper support this time."

A motel. She supposed it made sense, getting somewhere to stay, somewhere where she could stay. Its the first thing to get sorted. But then what?

"Right, and you'll go get him will you? Bring him...does he even want to see me. I know he didn't ever want to..."

What? Stake her? Of course he hadn't, but he'd done it. But she'd asked him to do it alone and maybe that was cruel. Cause she'd failed and he'd had to deal with that, time and time again, the people she'd killed and blamed him for. She wasn't sure if she blamed him now.

"Yeah...Proper support right, shall we go then, should I go get one of the girl's outfits or something. One not covered in blood?"

"Mitchell's a big boy, I'm sure he can find his own way," she explained. "I'll just have to hope there somewhere with internet access nearby wherever we find or...I take it there's a computer here? I can look for a phone book, find some and tell him before we even leave. And I don't know if he wants to see you or not, but I'm pretty sure he isn't just going to leave you to deal with this on your own." He was better than that, at least she hoped he was because otherwise Annie was going to have to try and do all this and she was pretty sure she couldn't be much good at that.

She hadn't really considered the fact Lauren was covered in blood, but she had a good point. Even if there was something pretty sick about wearing the clothes of someone she'd just killed. Things had to be done though, didn't they? "Yeah, right, good idea. You go and change. I'll try and find us somewhere and let Mitch know."

"Computers over there" she said, pointing vaugely, It had blood on it too of course from when she had been typing. "I'm sure they have a phone somewhere or other."

She looked down at herself, the same clothes she'd been wearing when Mitchell had staked her, some of the blood was probably hers too. She'd get something or other from the girl, they looked more or less the same size.

"I'll find something, and you...yeah you call him, let him know, get him her,e I mean if he wants to"

"Thanks," she replied glancing over at it. She wondered if she should try to clean it up. She really hadn't thought enough about this.

"I'll go and look," she added, moving away to look for a phone book, since finding the address of a motel was the first priority.

"He won't just leave you," she assured her, looking around. poking her head into the various rooms for any sign of a phone. Perhaps a google search would have made more sense, but she wasn't thinking all that clearly at the moment.

Lauren took the hint as Annie moved away and made for the teenagers room. All very pretty and pink, teddies on the bed, and...Pom Poms...God had she killed a bloody Cheerleader? She couldn't resist some amusement at this. Cheerleader. An actual, cheerleader.

Maybe that was her good deed for the day done.

She searched through the girl's stuff picking out the least offensive and girly outfit she could find, it was a denim skirt, leggings to go underneath and a red top. It would do, and her boots, while a little bloody were leather, it would wipe away.

She changed quickly, leaving the bloody clothes on the floor without a thought, even if they traced them back to that girl in England somehow she was dead. She even took the time to apply a little of the cheerleaders makeup, just foundation and a little lipgloss. Probably inappropriate, but she wouldn't be needing it.

"I'm ready" she called as she came back down the stairs to Annie. She didn't know what the ghost made of her besides maybe what Mitchell had said, if he talked about her, maybe he didn't talk about her.

"Did you call him, is he coming?"

She couldn't believe she was doing this. It was truly stupid and she couldn't even work out why she was doing it, not really. She should have just told Mitch. He knew how to handle these things, didn't he? He got all this stuff while Annie was just feeling her way in the dark and hoping she didn't mess up too badly. Lauren had killed these people and Annie had gone to clear it up, on her own. Without telling the people she was working with, the people whose job it was to deal with kind of thing.

She'd found a phone book pretty easily and found the nearest motel to where they were and then phoned a taxi because the idea of walking with her through crowded streets did not appeal very much. Having done that she'd gone over to the computer, carefully not looking at the blood on the keyboard. Apparently having been a temp was coming into some kind of use, since she could touch type which made everything a whole lot easier to ignore.

"I've told him where we're going," she confirmed. "He'll be there." Only really Annie wasn't sure of he would or not, or at least she didn't know when he'd been a little vague. 'When I work out what to say.' So apparently for now it was just them. Part of her wanted to kill Mitchell for that fact.

"The taxi'll be here in a minute. I thought...it'd be better than walking."

She weirdly wanted to see him, even though she'd done this, even though she knew full well he'd give her that look, that guilty, dissapointed sad look. But he'd help her, she knew he'd help her.

Maybe he'd even let her drink, just a little bit.

"Yeah maybe" she said quietly.

It was sort of awkward, Mitchell's ghost friend, the two of them standing there, ih the middle of her latest kill, the three bodies strewn around.

"...they don't have tea" she added randomly. "Sort of want tea"

Awkward was certainly one word for it. It was so difficult for Annie to work out how she'd got to this point, where she could do something like this and just about cope. It had been the same with Owen, death had changed her.

"Well they're American," Annie pointed out, clinging to this normal topic of conversation like a lifeline. "They don't seem to go in for tea much here. Unless this is one of the funky new powers. I made everyone crave whenever I'm around them, because I've got to be honest now, as far as powers go that's a pretty lame one, isn't it?"

"Worse things to crave than tea" she replied with a wry smile.

She hadn't known Mitchell's friends too well, not really, beyond the basics, and alright, threatening George that time. He'd gotten off light compared to the girl he'd been with.

But thinking about that now was probably a bad plan.

"You could have worse powers, make people crave marmite or something. That kinda thing you'd just have to abuse horribly"

So much to clinging to the normal. "Yeah, course," she agreed. She looked over towards the window, very much hoping the taxi would hurry up, not that that would be the end of this, far from it.

"Yeah, yeah good point. I really miss marmite, actually. I miss everything actually." At this moment she particularly missing alcohol.

Lauren found it all more than a little surreal, sitting surrounded by her victims talking to a ghost.

"You don't have to pretend to like me y'know...or to want to be here, I know you're here for him, and thats good, its good he has friends like you and George. You keep him on the level"

She crossed her arms around herself.

"So what, get to this motel, wait for Mitchell and then promise not to kill again, is that it?"

"It's not...it's not like that," she replied. "I didn't think I was pretending to like you. I thought I was just being civil." She was hardly being friendly, and Annie could be very friendly when she wanted to be. "And it's not just because of Mitchell either. I remember what you did. I want to give you a chance."

She nodded at the question, hearing the car pull up outside. "Something like that," she agreed. "We'll try and get you help though. We're not just going to make you promise not to kill anyone, because I really don't think it's that simple."

She reached over to turn off the computer. "Come on," she said moving past her. "The taxi's here."

She looked around, eyes falling to the bodies of the dead family, the driver of the taxi, he wouldn't have a clue even if he did remember their faces later, how were they gonna find her?

But Annie had suprised her.

"Seriously?" she didn't expect it, not even a little. "Cause of Seth and all that, figured everything I did before"

She watched the ghost turn off the computer and opened the door slowly.

"Right, we should go then, before...I don't think theres gonna be anyone finding them for a while, there wasn't much...."

What? Screaming?

"We should get going"

Annie apparently just couldn't help but see the best in people. Perhaps she was just too naive, but what Lauren had done to help them was enough proof to her that she had the potential to be good even after everything.

"Yeah because of that," she agreed. "And because of what you asked him to do. I know you don't like being like this, Lauren."

She turned back to face her at her comments. "Lauren, I'm happy to give you a chance, yeah? But if you could please not talk about all of this I'd really like that." Because she already felt pretty shitty about what she was doing without the reminders.

"I don't, of course I don't who would. But I'm gonna try, cause otherwise I'll have to ask him that again and the last time, I saw how much it hurt him to do it and...yeah I can't do that again. Maybe its selfish, is it"

She stopped at the door turning back toward Annie, maybe it was a little bit morbid of her, talking about it and stuff, maybe it was pushing it.

"Right, yeah, sorry. Suppose I just..."

There wasn't really much she could say.

"Taxi then?. Do you have American Money?" Random but relevent question, there was probably some lying around but she felt a bit wrong about stealing from the people she'd killed. Weird that.

None of the other vampires seemed to mind it too much, but Annie didn't want to bring that up. It was possible to change, Mitchell was proof of that. "Selfish?" she repeated, slightly confused. "Which part? The bit where you want to die or the bit where you want Mitch to do it? Because I don't think either are selfish. If I had the option I'd want to be killed by someone I cared about, for the right reasons." Rather than because you cared about was a jealous madman, obviously.

She didn't know quite where that sentence was going, nor did she wait to. She just what? Found it interesting? Couldn't help herself? Annie didn't want to know about any of that. She was just glad they family hadn't stayed around that would have been so much worse.

"Yeah, I've been here a while. Not that I generally need to buy much, obviously, but I have money for emergencies." And this certainly fell into that category. Leading the way to the door she opened it for Lauren to exit, before following her out and towards the car. She really hoped Mitchell wasn't going to spend too long deciding what to do before he arrived.

She shrugged at the question more than anything.

"Asking him to do it. But I had no choice"

She left the house walking down toward the car and climbing in, she knew enough not to say too much in the car. But she could say something.

"I do care about him y'know, much as maybe you think I don't. I admire that he's...y'know, clean"

The taxi driver seemed to roll his eyes at the topic but didn't say anything, if he got paid, that was what was important. He drove through the LA streets taking side streets a local would know, heading toward the specified motel.

"No I don't think that was selfish," she assured her. It was maybe a bad time to have suggested it, while they were running away from a pretty big vampire fight but that wasn't all that important.

She slipped into the car on the other side, quickly telling the driver where they were going.

Lauren's comment made her frown. She kept assuming she knew what Annie thought and she had no idea. They barely knew each other. "If I didn't think you cared about him I wouldn't be going to quite so much trouble," she pointed out. It was all to do with Mitchell of course, as she'd said before, but he had something to do with it. "And yeah, we all admire Mitchell's strength of character."

She sat through the rest of the journey reasonably quietly, really not sure what else she could say. Maybe she had jumped to conclusions about Annie, that wasn't her fault, she supposed she was used to expecting people to treat her like she was stupid, or talk down to her and stuff, Annie wasn't doing that.

"Well Thanks" she finally said "Whyever it is"

They finally pulled into the car park of the motel and Lauren looked out from the window of the car. She could sit in the room and just stay there till he came to her, talked her through stuff, helped her like she had always hoped he would.

She got out of the car waiting on Annie, not sure what she was going to do yet beyond wait.
