It was a place to start. She was unsure exactly what sort of results the attempt would yield, but it was still a place to start. As she stood and crossed the room, reality slipped from around her, and as the door to her room closed with a solid click, the last of the physical world had faded from her sight leaving her swimming in a sea of quantum darkness, quarks and strings of reality dancing around her as she turned to examine them, the options swimming before her eyes.
As she held up her hands, they were filled with tiny glowing bands that shimmered and gyrated. Each sprung off, attached to one of the threads that danced about her. She watched, smiling, as the strings she held traversed the dimensions of this time and space, shifting around the additional dimension sets. She reached out carefully, dismissing the irrelevant streams, searching for the one thread that she needed to follow the branches from. She rarely traced backwards. It was possible, but so seldom necessary that she never would have thought of doing it on her own.
As she clung to the current water crisis, Trance extended her sight backwards, separating the paths that hadn't happened from the one that had, pouring back until the flashes poured in, not quite substantial as they should have been. Discernment was one of her specialties, but this was like nothing that she had felt before. Snatches of white and a face swimming just on the edge of her memory as she watched a figure at the aqueduct center before it arched back, branching to the spill along the beach. The images were foggy, at best, but they assured her of one thing. These events were not just happenstance.
It really was happening.
