WHO: Tahiri Veila & OPEN
WHAT: Exploring Los Angeles
WHEN: Late afternoon
WHERE: Random beach
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In Progress
Tahiri had never been one for just sitting around and doing nothing. She also (as anyone at the Praxeum could contest) wasn't one for staying hidden and out of sight when there was danger lurking about. In her opinion, if she was hiding the bad guys were winning, and she would rather be defeated by them in an unfair match that could have been avoided than let them win without her so much as raising her lightsaber.
So, she had gone exploring. This was a foreign city, after all, so she was sure there were tons of new and interesting things to be found. Her imagination was practically overflowing with ideas of what she might discover while on this little outing. Allowing her feet to lead wherever they may, she could scarcely wait to see what waited just down the road.
Imagine her dismay when she'd realized that she'd discovered a beach. That wasn't exactly anything to write home about, considering her home consisted of little more than sand itself. Although she would admit that this particular expanse of sand was definitely different than anything Tatooine had to offer. A view, for one thing. And a significant lack of sweltering heat that defied all laws of logic.
Perched high on one of the dunes, bare feet half-buried in the tiny granules, Tahiri stared out at the water (ocean, it was called) and watched as the waves crashed against the shoreline. She had been sitting there for the past twenty minutes or so, and likely would have sat there for a few hours or more had the sound of scuffling not reached her. At the noise she perked up, peering just off to her right.
Her brow furrowed at the sight that greeted her. Some sort of creature unlike anything she'd ever seen before was giving chase after a woman who, although she was trying to flee, couldn't seem to get her footing long enough to really do so. Tahiri realized after a heartbeat or two that this was one of those demons that she'd been told about, creatures that roamed the streets of this place and preyed on the innocent.
Not today, this one won't, she decided as she silently rose to her feet. Lightsaber in her hand, she moved across the dune with the practice born from having been raised as a Tuskan, and Force jumped into the air as she reached the end. Flipping once, she landed smoothly between the demon and his intended victim, facing her foe. "Leave her alone," she stated simply, easily side-stepping when the creature made an angry swipe at her.
Her lightsaber surged to life and she swung around and down, slicing his arm away from his body. He roared in fury and charged. The scuffle, however, was over before it really had begun and by the end of it he was no more.
A waste, really, considering Tahiri hadn't wanted to kill him. Just ward him away. However one glance over her shoulder at the crying, scraped and bleeding woman, and she knew she'd done the right thing. "You're okay now," she stated to the woman, offering a smile. "He won't hurt you any-"
"Stay away from me!" the woman shrieked suddenly, turning and fleeing. She stumbled a few times before finally getting off the beach and Tahiri watched her go with a heavy sigh.
Deactivating her lightsaber, she replaced it on her belt and glanced at her fallen foe. "She could have at least said 'you're welcome'. I wonder if all people on this planet are that ungrateful," she muttered. With a shake of her head, she stepped over the demon and began making her way down the beach with the stride of someone who had obviously spent their life walking upon such a shifting, uneven surface.
Even with the sun still in the sky, the sand was cool against her feet. An inconsequential thing to notice, really, but it was at the forefront of her mind as she continued on her way, in search of someone who wasn't going to run from her the second she made her presence known.
