Clark was walking around in his room. He had one of his black T-shirts laying on the bed. As he looked down at it, he wondered how it would look with his shield on it. Especially since the symbol was being painted all over the place. Maybe this could work for him. He couldn't help but wonder why Zod's family crest was beside one of his own. If the general was here, it couldn't be good news. He had to find out more. As he turned around, he saw a bald man in an all white suit sitting in his chair.
"Come up in the world, haven't you?" Lex said with a smirk. "I bet these friends of yours don't know what kind of friend you really are. But I do. Tell me, do you hide secrets from them as well? Lead them on? Take their wives from them?"
Clark glared. "Lex." Of all the spirits to appear. It just had to be him. Though why he had a hand in a pocket was beyond him. Lex didn't usually do that. "No, I don't."
Lex countered, "Ohh, I see. So it's just with me, then. I see how it is. Hypocrisy really suits you, Clark. Or is it.. Kal-El?" He paused. "What, I hit a nerve?" He smirked. "You going to make me a pie now? Or not let me have one."
"Last time I checked," Clark said, "those friends didn't lock people up and experiment on them. They didn't turn on me in my own Fortress. And at least I never used Tess to spy for me against her will and without her knowing it. But she's as crazy as you, so that works out. She has this idea of me as an alien Jesus."
Lex laughed at that. "Well.. you did always have a messiah complex. Didn't I warn you about that? I told you it just leads to having a lot of enemies and pain. Almost unfortunate that we don't have kryptonite nails. Sure I can manage it anyway. At least Jesus didn't cause his father's death. Must have been a strain for Jonathan to keep you in line. It's little wonder how he's.. disappointed."
Clark stared at him, tensing a bit. He didn't like his former friend bring up stuff like that. "Lex, just what do you want from me?"
Lex stood up. He spoke firmly, "I want you to see that no matter what you do, you will always lose in the end. You can't save everyone. Ryan. Lana. Alicia. Jonathan. Lionel." He glared, taking a step toward him. "You pride yourself as a savior. A hero! But in reality.. you are a destroyer! Look how many times you got turned to the other side. How many times you hurt those you claim to be your friends. Well.. you also hurt ME, so can't say it's much of a surprise."
Clark hesitated, not sure what to do. He wanted to fly off. But that would not do. Lex Luthor was in his room! In his building. "I'm better now. And who are you to lecture me? You.. Lex, you killed your own father! You were greedy for the stones. You wanted to control me!"
"You betrayed me!" Lex shouted back at him. "I could have helped you become a hero. With your powers, and my superior mind and resources.. just think of what we can do! What we could have done!"
"I know, Devilicus," Clark answered, knowing Lex would get the Warrior Angel reference. "Ryan was right about you. You wouldn't save anyone. You would have destroyed it all. Did I mention you killed Lionel? What kind of hero does that.."
"Don't call me that. I'm not him," Lex said, shaking his head. "Ryan was a fool, he was a naive little kid with his head in the clouds. And you.. you lied to me for years. THAT is not a heroic move, either. You may seem like a god among men. But you're actually a devil. And the human race needs someone to stand up to you."
"And that someone is you??" Clark asked, confused and shocked. God, the ego. "You use people, Lex. When something or someone doesn't go your way, you punish them. You had Bart in an electric cage. You dried up AC. Almost made Vic into a drone."
"Who better?" Lex said in response. "As to your allies, they aren't so good. I recall their leader once blew me up. And didn't they betray you too? Not willing to kill, so they shot you in the back and left you by the tracks. But maybe they had the right idea? I guess me and Oliver aren't so different after all. Seems like I'm the only one willing to go that extra mile.. since he isn't here. I know what needs to be done. You'd be a tyrant, Kal. As well as a liar and cheat. You led me on to think we were friends. But you were a wolf in sheep's clothing." He slowly began to pull his right hand from his pants pocket.
Clark suddenly felt week, sinking down to his knees. He gasped and looked up.. he saw the familiar green glow. It came from a ring on Lex's finger. It became a fist and struck him, knocking him on his back.
"I want you to know," Lex berated, "that with all your power, your strength.. you are not invincible." He punched him again. "You now know that it is a so-called puny mortal that did this!" He punched him yet again.
"You don't want to do this, what would Lillian think-" Clark was sent reeling, hitting against the wall with a thud. He struggled to get up, but it was little use.
"NO one can save you!" Another punch. "And you can't save anyone, betrayer!!"
"Get out!" Clark yelled as loud as he could, fumbling for the doorknob. This was so not good.
