Summary: Marietta steals the dream database from Lavender's flat.
Even though the hit wizards had set up wards at Lavender Brown's flat, Marietta was not deterred from her mission. There was nothing that would keep her from getting the dream database for her lady. She donned dark black robes with a hood to cover her face and hair and gloves to cover her hands and checked in the fireplace one last time to see that no one was in Lavender's flat. The place was quiet, though the wards were still there, so she would have to apparate to the flat and break in from the outside then escape through the fireplace back to her own flat and shut down the connection before the hit wizards could follow her through it. She knew the database would be somewhere in the living area or on the dining table, but with the hit wizards having made a mess of things it would take her longer to find it, having to sift through the rubble that had not been cleaned up yet. All this she would have to do within ten minutes or less because the hit wizards would be alerted of her presence the moment she broke through the wards to get into the flat and that was the most crucial bit. She could not be caught, but if she could help it, she did want to be seen leaving the flat. If she could confirm that Lavender's cry for help was not just a desperate lunatic's ravings, but that someone had broken in again, it would be a good cover for her lady, especially if someone had seen Jayne by now. Marietta may not look like Pandora, but she did have similar red hair and it might be enough to throw some people off track. Marietta apparated to the roof entrance of Lavender's building, which had both a door and window access to the flat. There was a roof garden above, but she didn't think that would really make a difference for her trying to get inside. The door had extra wards on it and would take longer to break through so it wouldn't be worth the time to bother with it. The windows were the weak points and made for perfect entrance points. She walked over to the left one and moved the planters out of the way. It was now or never: once she began work on these wards the hit wizards would be alerted and her countdown would begin. Marietta raised her wand to the window and began muttering spells under her breath, working as quickly as she could to remove the weaker wards around the window. As far as she could guess, it would take her about two minutes to remove these wards. She would then be down to five minutes for finding the database, but luckily she already knew the layout of the main room in Lavender's flat from having looked in so many times in the past few days, so she would at least not be going in completely blind. Finally the wards were broken and Marietta blasted the window open, glass shards flying every which way as she eased herself into the flat. She began her search immediately by the light of her wand, digging through the side tables next to the sofa, flicking through every notebook she could find but coming up empty handed. She threw things in a pile so she knew she'd checked through them and eventually three more minutes had passed before she began to get desperate. She ran to the kitchen table and swept her hands across it, knocking something heavy over that was apparently filled with water - she didn't bother to see what it was when it crashed to the floor, she just continued her search for the database. If Marietta just knew what the bloody thing looked like it wouldn't matter, but here she was, searching fruitlessly. The stupid bint hadn't managed to take it with her, had she? She began to worry that she'd been thwarted and this had all been for nothing, but pushed that thought down and looked quickly to the door as she heard a noise. She was out of time - the hit wizards had arrived at the other entrance and were beginning to lower their wards. She had to think fast. "Accio database!" she said desperately and a small journal flew from somewhere in the room and into her waiting hands. Marietta raised her lit wand to it and flipped through a few pages to make sure that it was indeed the dream database she had been searching for and then smiled triumphantly. She shoved the book inside her robes and lowered her hood so that her hair was on display and turned her back to the door, one foot already in the fireplace and ready to move the second the hit wizards opened the door and saw the back of her head. She waited anxiously, ready to spring through the fire and as she heard the door bang open she tossed her hair back and flung herself through the floo, spun and pointed her wand at her own fireplace to close the connection for good with an exuberant laugh. She'd done it. |
