The sun was beginning to set beyond the horizon. In an odd, reflective way, it was beautiful. Sasuke never really described things as beautiful, but this was beauty in his mind in its purest form. A sunset over an ocean view with the waves calm and the clouds in the sky all painted different colors.
Sasuke was standing on a boulder just beyond the shore. Behind him stood the mansion – such an odd place. And yet, in some strange not even really comprehensible ways, he did not mind it. He did not mind being stuck here on this island in the middle of nowhere. It had taken him a few days to realize that this place, while just another type of prison to add to the many he had been held captive in during his lifetime, was one that he did not press on him, hold him down, and suffocate him as the many others he had encountered.
It was calming… almost relaxing in a way. Flying insect things and all.
The little bug-like creatures had disappeared some time around midnight the night before, and the day, so far, had been calm. He had spent the better part of the day outside, right where he was standing now, with the ocean water crashing against the rocks, and wetting his sandals and the hem of his pants with its spray.
A good thing about this place… was its lack of death and betrayal and division and pain.
There was something beyond all of that. Something that allowed him to even consider returning to Konoha with a simple question from Kakashi – an idea of home. An idea of a completed goal. An idea of hope. And something that allowed him to talk with the Hyuuga – somebody who was supposed to be his enemy. But here, in this mansion, there were no divisions and having enemies seemed… pointless.
They were going to be stuck together for a while, so why continue to hate each other? Why put forth the energy? Why waste his time with that? It seemed so pointless to do that now, especially since Sasuke had never hated Konoha, never really hated anybody within those walls.
He had hated his life. Himself. His situation. And the way that everybody else seemed to be able to find happiness and didn’t have somebody’s voice echoing in the back of their mind, telling them to kill them. He had hated that. But never the people. And now… the voice was gone. What next?
Wind washed over the ocean’s waves and played through his hair. His eyes slid shut as he took in the scent of the ocean and the feel of the wind against his skin. It felt good.
He felt good.
