"Beowulf" and Christ
Has anyone here seen “Beowulf”? If so, do you think the depiction of the “pagans” is that of a “open-minded” or “free spirited” group? Is the depiction at all similar to the Norse people of the time?
For people who have seen the movie, how often does this whole Christian vs pagan thing come up? Are the complaints in this article valid? Why or why not?
Do you think that movies have had an over all “negative” view or Christianity?
Do you think that movies and media over all have a “open minded” “free spirited” take on paganism?
Considering the movies with “negative views of Christianity” are set back at a time when the Catholic church was highly corrupt and violent, is it still inappropriate or prejudice to depict them with that historical coloring?
Are movies required to be faithful to reality?
Are producers, directors, and writers responsible for the messages that people gain from their works?
Were the intentions of “Beowulf” to put down Christianity and praise paganism?
