Old Winyards

Thanks to the comments I have received about the deletion of Chiaroscuro, and the fact that I've had a chance to calm down and think more clearly after the activity of the last couple of weeks, I have decided to reinstate that chapter. There were strong warnings on it, and they will be made stronger. Among the points that have been made by those who have commented are that it added depth and interest to the story, and that deleting it would leave several plot and character points hanging. Those comments are all true. If I were to start this story over again, I would probably do things differently. However, such is not the case, and the problem of fixing all the other chapters in order to reconcile them with the loss of this one is a more daunting one than I had imagined, which tells me that it is perhaps not quite so gratuitous as I had thought.

I have maintained a policy, in general, of not deleting works that I have posted, and I violated that in this case. In the interest of following the Shakespearean axiom of being true to oneself, I'm going to put the chapter back and let the chips fall where they may. I will stand by my promise that any future chapters featuring upsetting incidents in the lives of our heroes will be carefully tied into the overall story.
