Looking at my own reflection when suddenly it changes...
Characters: NPC-ed Hulk, OT Anybody in NYC who wants to fight the Hulk.
Setting: New York City, morning.
Content: Death. Destruction. Nick Fury.
Summary: Hulk angry. Hulk smash. Like he does. To your city. Geez.
Notes: Okay, so, a few things. First, do what you want to the Hulk within reason bearing in mind that he is the Hulk so you likely can't knock him out or kill him. You can NPC him. Smashing things, killing people, have at. I can also pop in to NPC him so if you make a thread, just PM or IM me and I'll do what I can for you. Finally, the battle will conclude on Monday afternoon. So if you do want to start a thread not necessarily get it finished in this, do so before Monday afternoon. Mostly, this is just for random fighting and stress relief in the form of beating on (and being smacked around by) the Hulk. Enjoy!

Bruce Banner was not a bad man. He’d never intended to hurt anyone. He’d never meant for this to get so out of hand. Yes, he’d accidentally killed innocents and he felt contrite. Still, it didn’t justify what S.H.I.E.L.D. did to him. He expected prison, but he also expected leniency because he couldn’t control it. But they’d taken away his very existence and lied to everyone who’d cared about him. They’d locked him away and treated him like nothing, all the experiments and the tests, it was practically torture. His solitary existence in the frozen wastes had driven Bruce Banner to the edge of madness. His escape pushed him over, and now he was out for revenge.

He bided his time, traveling from place to place, waiting for the right moment. Bruce knew they were after him. Knew Nick Fury was after him. He’d only seen Fury once, during a visit to the containment facility right after he’d become Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Fury had treated him as though he were subhuman, ignored him, ordered more tests. When he’d begged for compassion Fury had looked him in the eyes and called him murderer. Fury was a hypocrite, and now Fury was going to pay with his life. But first, he could watch his home destroyed and the people he was supposed to protect destroyed so that maybe he would show a little remorse for what was done to Banner. On a frigid Saturday morning Bruce arrived in New York City and strolled the streets, looking for all the world like any other average person. Not like a ticking time bomb. Not a horror waiting to happen.

Banner waited until he was in the midst of a cross walk on a busy street, surrounded by pedestrians and traffic and towering office buildings. Then he closed his eyes and he let the rage come flooding in thoughts about S.H.I.E.L.D. and all he’d suffered. As he transformed into the Hulk he gave an anguished howl of fury and pain. Within moments the street was in chaos; there were screams and a panicked stampede as pedestrians tried to get away. The air was torn by the sounds of crushing metal as the Hulk picked up vehicles and threw them at buildings and fleeing people. He lifted his face to the sky and roared, "HULK WANT S.H.I.E.L.D.!"

And S.H.I.E.L.D. was ready for him. Within five minutes of the Hulk's initial transformation helicopters of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and trucks and tanks full of military personnel were on the way to the Manhattan street where the Hulk was currently wreaking havoc. Nick, on one the Brooklyn-bound blackhawks, continually shouted orders into the mic on his ear piece. "I repeat, evacuate from Soho to Central Park. Alpha team, set up a perimeter around West 40th. Wanda, you and Pietro, rendezvous point outside Hilton Theatre West 42nd, now. Stark, motherfucker, where are you? Chief, report, fire rescue en route? Good, keep your people away from the Hulk if you can. Bravo team, etd on those adamantium missiles?" As the chopper neared West 40th street the air was a haze of smoke. Hardly ten minutes and the Hulk had already done unthinkable damage. Nick was almost afraid to check satellite images. The helicopter touched down on top of the Hilton Theatre building and Nick stepped out. This was going to be one hell of a day.

A blur of red jumped from building to building. The fucking Hulk was on the loose? No way in hell was Jessica going to sit back while chaos ensued. Howls of fear and destruction ran acutely through her ears, even as she glided high above the city. Glancing at the ever growing catastrophe, she cringed some. This was no pretty sight. Jessica then landed effortlessly on the rooftop of Hilton Theatre, and approached the S.H.I.E.L.D director with one ghost of a smirk. "Looks like our Green Giant ain't feeling so jolly," she quipped. Probably not the best time for jokes, but she couldn't resist.

Nick responded to her jest with a grim smile. "Not at all. Glad to have you, though, assuming you're here to help. When this is over I'll make sure to get you on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s payroll, with a bonus."

The Hulk. Really? This was some universe. Cassie was in the midst of a morning shift when the chaos began and soon she was on the street as Stature, heading for the "disturbance." She didn't exactly plan to go toe to toe with the Hulk but she could probably help with evacuations or something. When she reached the perimeter set up by police and military they tried to stop her but she just grew to enormous heights and stepped right over them. When she stooped to ask if there was anywhere she could help the police officer she addressed only hesitated for a moment before directing to help in rescue efforts in an area the Hulk had already vacated, leaving death and destruction in his wake.

"Great. The Incredible Hulk. This is just great. I get gassy from thanksgiving left overs too, but you don't see me tearing up Manhattan." Grumbled Peter as he leaped into costume and out towards the playground. He'd seen the carnage on TV and had left after telling Aunt May he was going to the store. He disliked lying to her, but this was kind of an emergency.

While web slinging on his way, he spotted Stature moving about the rescue workers and decided to swing by. "Hey babe," He began while flipping under her with a web line. "Need a ride to the front of the Man-Monster line? I'm on my way to get thrashed too."

Black Cat shot a grappling hook to the top of another building, nearly careening into the wall of said building as she looked in shock at the sight of a girl a good fourty feet tall. Oh she had to catch that. Flipping herself onto another roof and running across them to get a much better, closer view, she caught a glimpse of Spider Man swinging in close to the beheamoth. WONDERFUL!

The buxom thief stopped her galivantin on a roof behind the two and set her iPhone up to record, then yelled out, "HEY GIANT GIRL! WHAT'S YOUR CALL SIGN? ARE YOU AND SPIDEY-TIGHTS AN ITEM NOW?"

Jean Grey bounced in her striking yellow boots, green eyes bright with excitement. How could one be excited about facing down the Hulk? It was a silly childish notion to think she could finally take out the real life boogyman, but she couldn't help herself. Jean wanted to stretch out her abilities, feel every molecule and being resolved inside this huge universe and bend them to her will. She could do it, feel them burning and allow the ashe to flow through her finger tips. Death was only ugly when the innocent were involved.

She floated, hovering feet over the city to look for this huge, giant blob that was her test subject for the moment.

News of the Hulk's rampage spread pretty quickly through the international networks.

Lorna was visiting the 'shopping' district of the city, exploring it and actually impressed at how well the apparent favor exchange system seemed to work when she caught sight of the breaking news on a television one of the 'shops' had set up. A small crowd of mutants was starting to gather to watch the footage.

Lorna glanced at it only long enough to realize the destruction was occuring in New York along West 40. Then she was sprinting off to a teleporter's courier service to get a ride over to the Big Apple. The mutant dropped her off at the edge of Central Park and left her with a cheap cell phone to call him when she was ready to return to Genosha.

Lorna thanked him and headed into the city, toward the destruction. She ignored the police and the guns and the evacuating people, launching herself into the air making her way to the big green menace. She didn't intend to fight him, but she could help clear the area of objects he could use for weapons. Like that bus.

She had to land to focus properly, but in a few moments the bus was moving shakily away from the Hulk's path of destruction. A car followed and so she started her attempts to help the city.

"The nice thing about Greyhounds is that at least they can take a freaking hit," 'Ro muttered acridly as she felt the thing slam into the side of the expressway. Had it been a car or a semi-van that had ended its career thrown up against the side and toppling them onto theirs? It didn't matter.

And then it was moving again even as the young girl tried to figure out what the hell was going on. She struggled to get to her feet, scrambling up the chairs to climb to the other side of the bus, wincing at a bruise or two. Reaching the safety glass, she hit the latches with one hand and gave a rough shove.

Even as the conscious were starting to pool out, she could see it skidding away from something. That something was big. It was green. It was pissed off. And its yellow eyes just briefly glanced at her before continuing its rampage.

"Oh shit!" she spat, eyes going wild, the irises starting to fade away unconsciously. "Just my damned luck. Come on 'Ro, see the Big Apple. There's folks there to meet. Like the freaking hulk! What was I thinking?!?"

The bus was, at least, settled on the ground with relative gentleness. Lorna continued moving cars, but also moved toward the door of the vehicle and pointed in the direction of the police barriers, "Evacuate that way! Go as fast as you can and keep low. I'll do my best to keep the cars from falling on you while you all run. GO!"

She caught sight of a familiar stock of white hair on a black body and shouted without looking too hard, "Storm! Can you raise a fog or something to obscure his vision?"

Boom Boom was no one's savior.

She enjoyed watching the chaos unfold around her, even adding to it with a little bomb here and there. Part of her was disappointed that she couldn't make such a splash with her own abilities, but whatever. People screamed around, scrambling a way and under the barriers the police had set up. A smirk on her lips, the blonde formed a small 'bomb' in her fingers and tossed it easily over the barrier. In seconds, the barrier was gone and the people were screaming again. The uniforms of the officers were covered with dirt and debris lay everywhere.

She could see it in their eyes. What did they do now? How did they protect the people? Tabitha figured by now that they knew they couldn't.

"Hey! Firecracker! Do that again, but this time, smile for the camera!" A laughing voice called down from overhead. The Black Cat didn't make daylight appearances, but for Zombies and the Hulk, she did make an exception. Her iPhone was out and filming and she had it aimed right at Boom Boom while she hung from the side of a building four stories up, claws dug into the concrete. This would look great on her youtube channel.

The spunky blonde turned, blue eyes falling on the figure perched on the building and the shimmering screen of an iPhone. She wasn't an attention whore, but at the same time she wasn't one to shy away from a chance to push the Brotherhood's cause. Honestly, she hadn't heard Firecracker in awhile for her codename either. "If you insist", Boom Boom smirked playfully and her fists filled with the plasma used to make her neat little parlor tricks.

She leapt up onto a burnt out car, fumes still coming from the silver, dented hood. People still flooded the area, desperate for a chance to escape the smoke and tumbling brick around them. The small 'bombs' fluttered through the air, hovering seconds before slamming into the ground and buildings, some as big as volleyballs.

Steve had been looking for Bruce all this time.

Unfortunately it was now far too easy to find him, and half the mutant and super hero population seemed to have raced out to try and stop him.

Thing was, Hulk wasn't a people person.

And so - after debating with himself for a good long while, he doned the costume, minus the shield and made his way out to center of the chaos. There was more chance of Hulk recognizing him like this. More chance of Bruce recognizing him.

"Bruce! Bruce stop! You don't want to do this!" he called, getting dangerously close to his old team mate.

The Hulk turned his head at the new sound and stared down at Captain American with a quizzical and mildly confused expression. He tilted his head and bent down, something like recognition in his huge wrath-filled eyes. "Cap," he said, haltingly. For the moment, Cap wasn't dead, so that had to be a good sign.

Cap raised his hands to show he was unarmed and had no plans to attack him. "Bruce, please. You need to calm down. I'm sorry for what they did to you. We didn't know, Bruce. You need to stop this before more people get hurt." He implored Bruce, never Hulk. Bruce was still in there, somewhere. Bruce his friend. Mild mannered, sweet Bruce. Bruce who wouldn't destroy a whole city on a bad day.

Back towards the Hulk, dashed Speed and Stature. He carried her in his arms, back to the battle field. Although both of them were exhausted beyond normal recollection, there was still work to be done, and a hulk to stop. Speed and Stature had to keep fighting as long as there were people in risk of getting hurt or killed.

Speed came to a halt as they neared the green goliath. He gently sat down his companion, then turned to face the demon terrorizing the city. "Ok, so what now?" He asked to no one in particular. He wasn't entirely sure what he could do to hurt the mean green machine, Quicksilver he was not.

"See if you can distracted him," she instructed as she began to grow. "I'm going to give him a taste of his own medicine." Cassie reached a height of two hundred feet and then reached up to hold a helicopter that was whirring nearby. "Hi, can I borrow this?" she asked the pilot who, looking horrified, nodded and allowed her to pluck him out and put him on a rooftop.

Tommy gave a small nod. "Here goes nothing." The Hulk growled in warning at both of them, but made no move to attack yet. After taking a deep breath Tommy charged after the incredible one. "TAG, HULK'S IT!" He yelled as he dashed up and leaped into the air. As he reached the Hulk face, he quickly poked the monster's eyes out.

The Hulk roared in pain, and then promptly started waving his arms about wildly trying to catch the darting Speedster. When that didn't work, Hulk started picking up various heavy objects and hurled them at Speed. "Cass..." Speed began as he dodged a brick wall ripped off the ground, "I'd really like to mention how much I hate this plan.." He then darted out of the way of semi big wheeler lounged at him. "Wow. I think he's picking up bigger things."

"Holy damn, you are one massive fellow," she awed, briefly taken by the limitless verocity of Hulk's rage. Jumping over and dodging large chunks of debris and fallen structures, Jessica sprung up and attached herself to a building that was - with some serious luck - still untouched. Screw running, this would get her where she needed to be a lot faster.

With a small grunt, she then pushed herself of the wall and dove into the air before front-flipping and landing gracefully in front of the monster. She then planted her feet into the gravel and, hands positioned at a circular angle, began to conjure bioelectric energy surging rapidly through her body to create an intensifying force between her palms.

"Alright, big guy," she wet her lips. "Here goes nothing." And with a vigorous thrust, discharged the energy toward the Hulk and watched as it projected right into his chest. If this was aimed toward a normal human being, they would've dropped dead. Hell, a whole group of them would've. But...the Hulk was an entirely different package - she'd be damned if her venom blast did nothing but tickle him.

The venom did hurt, a little, and made him angrier, a lot angrier. The Hulk roared and slammed a fist towards Jessica. "HULK SMASH!" he yelled.

Oh. Shit. "Not today," she remarked and lunged out of the way of his fist's wrath, rolling right between his legs. Think think think. A dust-sheeted vehicle caught her eye and she gripped it by its bumper. Exerting her strength to lift the thing, Jessica spun one good time or two to build momentum and flung the car right at the back of his head. "Smash that."

Finale! OT: Avengers

Manhattan was finally completely evacuated and the Hulk was as weak as he was going to get. He was blinded in one eye, there were bloodied gouges in his back, and he'd been pummeled by all manner of vehicles and the fists of several superheroes. Now it was time for Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. to strike the death blow. Fury had hoped that it wouldn't come to this; hoped that snipers and superheroes would have managed the deed. His method meant a helluva lot more property damage. Despite his blustering about the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. this was something Fury was to take responsibility for- he couldn't force this on the team. The Avengers didn't kill. If the Hulk survived the missiles that were about to be launched at him, well, then maybe they would have to. The missile launchers were in position, all they needed now was the go from the Director.

Unless they were interrupted. Tony had to rely on the hope that they wouldn't fire missiles when Iron Man was within the blast range-- they weren't that desperate, were they? Even if they didn't appreciate Tony crashing their parties, they appreciated the golden egg, and they must have appreciated Iron Man enough to try to avoid nuking him. There would at least be some irritating enough backlash to make them think twice. Iron Man had fans.

At the first mention of 'readying', Iron Man was darting back towards the battle zone, numbed out and ready to finish this with Bruce alive, even if it ended with him dead. "Keep your boys on a leash, Nick," he demanded hoarsely, blanketing the SHIELD comm link. He hit the ground hard, throwing up dust in front of the reeling Hulk, making the beast snap into focus and snarl at him.

"They're up there, dude. S.H.I.E.L.D., you see 'em?" Iron Man called out to him, pointing at the news helicopter circling above. It was easy bait, and the Hulk threw his head back puzzling over this conundrum. Exposing his neck. "Good boy," Iron Man muttered, snapping his arm up to launch the adamantium-tipped injectors straight into the pulsing vein. Time to prove his late arrival worth the wait.

Roaring in protest, surprise and unadulterated rage, the Hulks focus was back on Iron Man, swiping at the needles protruding from his neck to send them tinkling to the broken stone at his feet. "Metal man think he can trick Hulk?" he growled, taking his first heavy step towards the offender, who just held his ground. Praying. The Hulk's fists were balled and his teeth bared, good eye wide and pupil blown black, and the second step never came. He teetered, and made a low growl in his throat, and that rage tripled in his eye, but he remained frozen.

Not here to waste time, Iron Man was in the air then grabbing onto the Hulk's sparse hair, heels digging into his collar bone to steady him, one hand raised as if ready to punch the remaining eye out. Instead, there was just a pinpoint beam of light from Iron Man's wrist, barely bright enough to be seen around the shadow Iron Man cast, targeted directly into the Hulk's frozen, watching eye.

They toppled together. Iron Man, kneeling on the Hulk's shoulders, leaning over with his hands buried in the rubble on either side of his head, gasped through shaky, fretful breaths, "Electroshock. I hear it's in season." By then, the Hulk wasn't so bulky, and Iron Man was rolling away, dragging himself out of the rubble where Bruce Banner lay, broken and battered but quiet. He shouldn't have been able to fall like that. Too relaxed, too even. The paralyzer wore off way too fast. Iron Man could have been Hulk food.

"What the fuck, Stark?" Fury barked and with a trail of agents raced forward out of protective cover and into the designated blast radius. What the hell did he think he was doing?! This was not the plan. Stark knew the plan, and even if Fury had done his best to leave the Avengers out of this, Stark ought to be following the plan. He paused several feet away from the scene, his agents nearly slamming into him, as he watched the Hulk's transformation with awe. A technological miracle. Now this could be handled quietly, privately, humanely. Maybe, Nick thought with a burst of hope, they wouldn't have to kill Banner after all.

Even as he thought this he gave the signal to stand down. Though most obeyed, there was some kind of comms malfunction between Fury and the military personnel manning the missile launchers. Somehow "stand down" equated to "fire." So much for technological miracles.

At wailing sound of the oncoming missiles, Fury only had time to look up in horror and mouth, "Mother fucker."
