Fake Marrieds
Taken from Here.

You're pretending to be married to someone for some reason. To get a job? An inheritance? As super secret spies? Maybe you're secretly in love or maybe you hate their guts, either way you've got to make it work to get what you want.

That hurt. There wasn't much data to suggest otherwise, but it wasn't like Tony went looking for just anybody to explore the anomaly in the yard. He had an order of preference, sure, but that had more to do with a familiarity with the scientific theory. Wanda didn't linger there, though, so Tony wasn't pouting long before he was embracing her suggestion with open arms, saying, "Worked for my parents. Only a little? In public, sure, I get that. Do you want to practice?"

"No thanks," she rolled her eyes, but at least she offered him a small smile. Something he'd said bothered her, though it took a moment for her to work it out, and then she wasn't smiling anymore. Staring up she followed the curve of the walls and ceiling, looked over all the furniture, wondering. In public- what if they were "in public" now? These people were draconian, yes, but also technologically advanced. It wasn't a stretch to imagine they were being spied on, their plans listened to. Actually, she would be more surprised if they weren't. "Tony, what if they're watching us right now?" she asked in a whisper (as if that would make any difference now).

Tony went very still and a little pale, horrified that the very thought hadn't occurred to him ten minutes ago when he was already looking for spies, but they hadn't said anything completely damaging yet, right? Okay, Wanda's rejection of their friendship was bad, but Tony knew plenty of couples who weren't friends. He'd had a few girlfriends like that himself. "Unless you're planning on starting a reality show for your new Microverse lifestyle, we'll have to keep our hands off of each other. You know, until we know for sure," he said, then gave a glance around the room himself. "That might not be so bad, though. Hey, fresh start. Things are looking up. You're already a minor celebrity." He slid closer, feeling invaded now and thankful enough to have someone on his side that he gave her shoulders a squeeze, even if it was Wanda and Tony was sure that meant they were working against the clock. "Are you hungry? I'm finding a Starbucks, the headaches coming, I'm going to be a nightmare. Need anything? I'll go see what...what's going on there, you stay here and..." he said and gave a twirl of his finger for her to start a survey of their comfortable prison. He would have gladly been the one to stay and tear the place apart to find out how it worked, but Wanda hadn't done well so far amongst the people.

Yes, I'll-" Wanda began, but got no further before she realized that the door wasn't opening. It was possible that Tony just didn't understand how it worked, but more likely that they'd been locked in. She frowned and moved up beside him to press at panels or even try to find the door seam. There was nothing. Their futile attempts went on for a few minutes when a knock sounded outside that room that sent Wanda scurrying behind her "husband" as the door slid open and the head of the Council strode in. He stared at them with an imperious frown for a long moment before gesturing to a trio of uniformed people behind them. Eyes on the floor they bustled in to deposit boxes on the bed and then retreated quickly to await their next command.

Eventually he leveled his gaze at Tony's and spoke. "I hope you and your wife will dine with my family tonight." The way he'd diverted a disgusted glance at Wanda, the sneer in his voice, made her grasp one of Tony's hands reflexively, like she expected the man might try to drag her out and burn her at any moment. If nothing else, his sudden appearance after Tony tried to leave confirmed her paranoia that they were being watched and that they were probably more prisoners than guests here.

Tony had already put an arm out to bar her as the party tromped into the room, keeping a suspicious eye on them until they were clear of the door again, so he readily took her hand. Honestly, she was probably much better equipped to put up a fight here, hating witches so much probably left this culture at a tactical disadvantage, and Tony didn't even have his suit. He was just a weird, weak alien here. They knew about the limits of his abilities as well as he knew about theirs, though, and hopefully they could keep it vague for as long as possible. "That's very generous of you, thank you," Tony agreed diplomatically, sounding just too practiced after the defensive display. He didn't have to voice his question when he glanced at the boxes, the Councilor ready to make his opinion of their manner of dress clear in his voice when he explained he had provided proper dinner attire.

"This shirt was $700, it's custom," Tony said as soon as the door was closed again. "Do you think that opens now? Or do we wait to be collected?" Tony could remain optimistic. If they wanted to confine them, they could have just as easily thrown them in jail. The pageantry didn't have an obvious purpose, except that these people seemed to enjoy a bit of pageantry. There better not have been one of those dresses for him in those boxes.

The whole thing was a power play, reminding them who was in control. She'd seen the tactic throughout her life, from political regimes and invading armies disguising their tyranny in altruism, or trying to control Sokovia's people through fear. Then there was HYDRA who manipulated and tortured. This was just more of the same, isolating them and trying to take away what was familiar and safe. It was enough to start making her angry, even in the face of the unfamiliarity that made her afraid. Her reaction, though knee jerk, had been in direct proportion to having weapons brandished in their faces the moment they appeared. Still, she had a feeling that in this place of ornate tradition and archaic fear their sudden appearance would have received them no warmer a welcome than if Wanda hadn't turned a few guards into cats.

Scowling at the boxes got her nowhere, so Wanda turned and slapped the wall where the door should have been. Unsurprisingly, they remained locked inside. She invaded Tony's space to remark, "They have no taste" and brushed her fingers over the fabric of his shirt. The latest intrusion from their "hosts" had her feeling les cagey towards her only ally. Trapped and definitely watched, they needed a plan.

Wanda put her arms around his neck and rested her headed on his shoulder, feigning the show of affection so that she could mumble close to his ear. "They're manipulating us. Maybe there's more tech in the clothes they brought." Something to keep spying on them or track them or hurt them if they stepped out of line. Paranoid, but Wanda didn't doubt that it was possible. "Is there any way you could know?"

Wanda did her best work from a distance, so at first Tony didn't know what to make of this, tensing with his hands hovering over her waist and 95% sure that this was how she intended to finally kill him; relishing it up close. It was only a minor bug, though, and he was sliding a hand up her back as she spoke, curling the other through her hair so it was gathered to hide his murmur and the movement could have caused some auditory interference, assuming sound worked the same way here. Tony didn't really know. "Grab anything you find." He had to be brief, but he wasn't going to be much use without some kind of tool kit here. What was he supposed to do if he found out there was some (surely, very cool) hidden accessories? And he wasn't picky. As he drew away, hands on her shoulders then, he said, "See if you can freshen up. We just have to play nice, show them that we mean to harm and are very in love, and know how to be presentable at a dinner table. Maybe they're just very strict about manners here. I would be, too, if I looked like that." With a general gesture around the face and a grimace, Tony turned toward the boxes, not sure what the reasonable amount of time would be to look very busy with them. At least the garments were unfamiliar to him, so he could take his time holding each up as though to test how it would fit.
