Chaos made a perfect cover, one that Magneto was quick to take advantage of. Dire though the earth's end was, for Magnus and his people it would be a new beginning. He sent out his emissaries to all corners of the earth, armed with devices to detect mutants (not quite as efficient as Cerebro but he had neither the access nor a telepath at his disposal strong enough to control it). With panic and confusion rampant in the streets, it was easy for the Brotherhood acolytes to snatch unsuspecting mutants and spirit them away to Genosha.
A special team was dispatched to Xavier's School where Magnus knew the teachers and X-Men were far outnumbered by their students. Frightened and hardly in control of their fledgling powers, the children were easy to take. The attack was carried out with precision, quick and devastating as lightning strike. The Brotherhood were in and out before the X-Men could do much to retaliate, teleporting the children away in their final hours on the planet to the rebuilt cells beneath Magneto's mutant haven.
Incarceration of those unwillingly reclaimed was an unfortunate but necessary evil. It was done for their own protection, and the protection of his people above in Genosha. The resistant refugees did not understand what was coming, what Magneto had planned, better that wait imprisoned than wreak havoc in their terror. All would be right in the end. This was what Magnus worked to assure now. Standing on a hill overlooking the city he focused on the ground below, pulling at its metals to form a protective sphere around the city and the earth below it. The world was ending, but this part of it would rise into the ether, Magneto's own crafted asteroid, propelled by rockets under ground, protected by its creator's power. The last piece of Earth would belong to mutantkind.
