Always we will fight as one
Characters: Janet Van Dyne, Wanda Maximoff, Clint Barton, OTA Avengers (Past and Present, will add as you tag in)
Setting: Avengers Mansion (Remember that place?)
Content: Who knows?
Summary: See this. Avengers Assemble

The mansion looked a little less lived in, a little dusty- a time capsule of a time when they were all younger and a little less wise. The walls were decorated with pieces from the founding team through to the more modern ones, and Janet found herself lingering near a bust of her first costume. She'd been a kid then. Usually she didn't feel so different from the girl who'd donned that costume, but today she was feeling her age a bit.

She'd moved the meeting out to the side yard, dragged out tables and chairs to give it a less formal feel, though the pool was probably still a little too chilly to be tempting.

"I brought sushi," she greeted, stepping back out into the yard and setting it out on the table, "And if we go late I can send out for pizza."

This place was nice, Wanda had never seen it before. It had a different vibe from the Avengers tower. There was a lot of meaning here, history. She rather liked it. After a look around the yard she put a cake box down on the table and gestured for Jessica to put down the bottle she had. It had taken a lot of convincing to get Jess here, but Wanda was glad she'd come along. "We brought wine and cake," she said as she sat down at the table. "And Clint."

"Yeah." Came a voice right behind Wanda as Clint walked in next. He still didn't see how exactly win and cake went together, but whatever. "I brought some Easter candy. It was 75 percent off." He explained as he slumped a bag full of assorted egg and bunny shaped treats on the table. With that done he went for some of the random fried chicken. The kind that is always brought to one of these things. He wanted a to get a leg before someone took them all. He noticeably went forward with this plan without first getting a plate.

"In case you were wondering," Jessica bantered, smiling Jan's way before casting Clint an amused look. She took a seat next to Wanda and gave the outside another look around with interest, still not as confident as Wanda was that she ought to be there.

Maybe Bruce had a little bit too much time on his hands lately. In between checking in on Betty he had become fully back into veganism. This invitation was the perfect time to show off some recipes. He walked into the lobby behind the crowd packing large cooler a case of beer and a proud smile.

"I brought tofurkey and organic turkey quinoa chili con carne, Santa Fe kelp chips I made at home, they're really good and I think if we're going to do this we all have to get back in shape." He set the containers and the beer between the candy and the cake.

Thor had arrived earlier, and was all ready seated in the yard. He'd brought the chicken, though it all seemed rather small and dainty to him. There were pictures of the other Thor inside, the one that was from here originally, and Thor had puzzled over them for a while before retreating outside where there were no reminders.

He raised a quizzical eyebrow at Banner. "What is a tofurkey?"

"Not something you want to eat," Pietro commented, and when the hell had he gotten there? "Maybe we should have co-ordinated," he added, looking over the strange spread. He wasn't going to address his arrival. He was here to here what everyone had to say, and make a decision about whether he'd return after.

"Okay, so before we start, Tony's out for now. Probably because he doesn't actually have a suit right now, but we didn't really get into it. And um...Cap's...taking a break from being Cap for a while apparently, so this is what we're looking at for potential team members," Jan said, gesturing to the assembled group. "I know we've had some issues, and so of us have been working solo, or not at all, so I guess the first thing we should figure out if we want or even need an official team. Obviously, I think we do."

Wanda watched the new arrivals with interest then smiled in surprise at her brother's appearance. She wasn't sure if he was showing up or not. While the others discussed the food she got a plate of fried chicken and kale chips, poured a glass of wine, and then took her seat again when Jan began the meeting proper.

"I agree with Jan," Wanda said, "Having team support is nice. We also seem to get more cooperation from authorities and trust from the public as an official team. The name and the history carries some weight. Those of us with, ah, troubled pasts probably do better with the Avengers than as lone vigilantes." Which was a lot of them at this table, honestly. Despite past team problems, Wanda wanted to believe this could work and was willing to give it another try.

None of this was news to Clint. Yes, they needed Avengers. Yes, they were better off as a team. He just wasn't sure he was ready to be a part of it. Honestly, there were a lot of other things going on with his life right now. Besides he wasn't entirely sure they needed him anyway. They could always just point Thor or Hulk at their problems nowadays. Or have Wanda Magic away a solution. After the last few years it was also becoming increasingly apparent that a lot of Avengers had different ideas on how to handle things anyway.

Clint just chewed on his food and watched silently for now. He wondered how many people Jan even wanted. Probably around five people. She really only needed Wanda, Hulk, Thor, and herself.

Jessica grabbed a few rolls off sushi, some of the chili con carne, and wine. She took a sip from her glass as she listened, in agreement for the most part. Despite her own personal conflict, she wanted to see the team come back together. It surprised her that that meant the Captain wouldn't be apart of it, as she always thought he was their center, but they were all capable, and she smiled encouragingly when she said, "There should be a team." Ideally, everyone involved would learn to cooperate with one another, compromise, and generally get along. And maybe some of their differences could be mitigated if they got to know each other better. Jessica sat back, chewing thoughtfully on a roll.

Bruce made a face. He'd be the first one to admit that nothing can taste better than meat but it wasn't terrible. Whatever, he made the real turkey one for just this occasion. He made himself a bowl an took a few California rolls before taking a seat and listening. Clint and Quicksilver was being silent, perhaps this wouldn't' get off the ground after all. He'd have to make a strong case, he wanted this as much as Jan did.

"Not that I don't miss you guys...or at least the ones that were here when I was," he said noting Wanda and Pietro. Last he saw of them they were the bad guys. "I think we need to look at this logically too. Look at Queens, we still have no clear idea of what caused it so we need to be prepared for whatever happens next. Some of us are all human, others gods and mutants there's always going to be something that can beat one of us so why not have a team to cover all the bases?"

Thor had never really been a part of this team, but his own had been reluctant to form on their own as well. At least here he hoped it wouldn't take a push of the death of their friends to make them work together.

"I am an Avenger no matter which Earth I find myself on," he pledged, "I'll fight, if you'll have me. Midgard needs her heroes. She needs Avengers."

"I don't know for sure if I'm on board, I don't...mesh so well, but whether I do or don't I think there should be a team." His lips quirked. "I think we can all agree we need some work on team dynamics either way. A refresher course. I know it's not the same, but even in the brotherhood we worked as a unit. I think, as Avengers we've fallen into a pattern of working as single heroes who happen to be fighting the same threat."

Well, apart from Clint everyone at least seemed to have an opinion. The majority seemed in favor of a team, but not so many were prepared to say they wanted to be part of that team.

Jan's gaze rested pointedly on Clint for a moment, arching a brow. "Do you have anything to say?" she asked.

"I think the next question is, whose willing to be a part of that team? To fight to keep it alive? And who works well together? And what went so wrong before? Because no point in starting all this if we're going to fall back into old patterns."

"I will," Wanda spoke up immediately. She knew that she could do more good with the team then she could probably manage apart from it. However, she shot a sidelong look at Jess and added, "But I'd rather keep living in my apartment." Not that the mansion wasn't nice, but she liked their place and she wasn't going to just up and abandon Jessica if her roommate chose not to rejoin the team.

Wanda mulled over Jan's seond question but had no single easy answer to offer. She knew she could work with anyone she had too, but a willingness to work together didn't automatically equal a team spirit. There were times in the past when they all just felt like strangers sharing a space, each with their own agendas. "We got involved in our own problems without asking for the help or support of the team," she said. Nobody liked to ask for help, but maybe if they were all more open with eachother they could be successful this time.

Oh wow. All the attention was on him now. Clint blinked back at Jan for a moment and gathered his thoughts. A lot of things came to mind after being asked such a question. The first thing he thought about was that last incident they had both shared in bed. He was still sorry about poking her with his special arrows. How was he supposed to know it would go off like that?

Anyway- Christ.. He had to stay on topic here. What did the team need? Well.. "I think that If we are going to do this again.. Then we need to have some balls about it." He crossed his arms then and let his gaze take in the room. "No more second guessing. We go out and do what we have to do. I also think we need to do away with this democratic crap. I get real sick and tired of taking orders from every C Lister Asshole that walks in here. Squirrel Girl can go fuck herself."

"A good hero is a good hero. And if they have strong leadership skills, what does it matter if they're a 'C-lister'?" Other than that, Jessica mostly agreed with Barton. "I won't be rejoining the team," she said to the group. Right now, she wasn't sure she could be the Avenger that the team deserved. Hell, sometimes she wasn't even sure why anyone said she could be one in the first place. Jessica might have to ask Nick about that. "For now. If you ever needed an extra hand, I wouldn't hesitate to help."

Clint's response made Bruce think, that's exactly what was wrong before, they never worked as a team. People couldn't take orders and after long fights in the field it seemed they had to have another big blow out at their base. Still though that all came down to ego, and that could be squashed pretty quick.

"I think that's, no offense Clint,is bullshit. It's easy. Take a step back look at what's happening. We have a job to do and we need to do it. Egos to the side, you're good we all know you're good but if one of the 'C-listers' has a better plan we have to be ready to do what's best. But hey, I get it some of us work better with our own plan of action and that's fine. Anyway Jan I'm in. Hulk has always done better here. And it's easier to do my research when his energy is out."

Thor had all ready said his piece, and didn't know the team well enough to speak on it's problems.

Pietro shrugged. "Like I said, it's trust and team dynamics. The Avengers is about a group of people working to a common goal that one person can't handle on their own. It's not a place to be pig headed. I think we stopped being a team and started being a collection of people. And people who didn't get along all that well."

"I don't know if I want to come back. Honestly, it depends on who's in and who's out."

"When you say have balls, what exactly do you mean?" It's kind of vague. Did he have something in mind where they'd been second guessing. And she couldn't remember the last time she'd even seen Squirrel Girl, but if that was the issue.

"I'm thinking we might benefit from more defined leadership. And if we're gong by seniority...that'd be me or Bruce," she said, sharing a smile with him before continuing, "I don't know if anyone agrees, but..."

A lack of strong leadership was definitely another problem, aside from all their own individual issues. Wanda agreed with Jan and nodded. "I know I don't know Bruce very well, but I would be fine with either of you, personally." She didn't really have much else to say on it. Wanda wasn't surprised that Jess had opted out, Pietro seemed to like his gig at the school so his reticence didn't surprise her, either, and even though Clint was usually combative his current attitude didn't bode well. Who knew what the final team would be.

Hearing Banner pipe up at him like that immediately drew a wide smirk across Clint's face. He could still recall the days when the good doctor was still a stringy little man. Afraid of his own shadow. Now he was grown up and ready to lead. Good. They would need that. "Sure, Doc. No offense meant. I wouldn't want to get you angry or anything." He teased as he glanced back at Jan. "I'm not sure how much clearly I can be? Don't ever second guess. You know? Go with your gut."

He frowned then and walked back over to table of food. "Sure. Be the Boss. You're going to need to sometimes talk like Banner over there if you want to keep them in line. Anyway, I'm going to get another plate over here and be on my way. I think everyone here knows where I live if they need something."

Right. It was clear Barton also wasn't rejoining. Jessica took a sip of wine and went over what the others had said. At this point, she wasn't sure she even had a say in who became leader, but both Bruce and Janet had both shown that they were both dedicated to making the Avengers work. "Why don't the both of you lead?" she suggested. "Two heads are better than one, right? The team could benefit from that." She realized that having two leaders might be a challenge in and of itself, but if the they worked together (and they seemed to know each other well enough), it might be easier keeping the team functional and their problems at bay.

He was about to protest, clearly this was Jan's team she had showed the initiative to get them all here. But perhaps Jessica was right, maybe they needed to work together. He looked around at Wanda, Thor ,Jan and Pietro. This could be his team, why not? And logical;ly it made sense what was he supposed to do in Hulk mode, Hulk couldn't give instruction other than smash.

"Great," Wanda said, slightly surprised at her brother's decision. Completely unsurprised by Clint's. That he was standing there eating his chicken after insulting Jan and the Hulk though, that was something.

She made a quick curious glance Barton's way, not surprised that his attitude had been ill-received. Maybe he needed a nap or something. Jessica herself another roll and smiled over at Wanda as she posed her question, then out to Jan and Bruce. "Well, who's all moving into the mansion?" she asked. It wasn't so much his attitude, or his ego. It was his condescending nature about Jan's ability to lead that really bothered him. When had he ever lead, really lead? He couldn't he was a slolo mission kind of guy and that was fine, for him. But the rest of the time he was so preoccupied with getting pissy over someone else calling the shots. Jan was the one who showed initiative and got them together today. She was ready to lead! Instead of getting angry on Jan's behalf he let it go. He was a jerk, that was never going to change, at least now he recognized his attitude was not welcomed on this team. Jan could fight her own battles.

"Safe travels then." He said carrying on the meeting. "Pietro welcome back I look forward to working with you.As for the living situation I know we have all of our own places now but I for one will be moving in if it's alright with Jan. I won't lie I'd like more lab space and I haven't paid rent in months."

"I'm pretty sure I was contributing Janet." Clint said giving the Wasp an even gaze back. It was pretty obvious where this was going though. Still it was kind of odd how quickly half of the room seemed to get so angry that fast. Sure he was a jerk, but he was always a jerk. That didn't change. It was probably something in that vegan food Banner brought. Protein deficiency?

At any rate it was obvious it was time to go. "And I wasn't aware that the food came with strings. But that's fine. I'll go." He'd remember this though. He'd never seen Janet Van Dyne act like such a bitch before. All those Pym Particles must have started catching up. So he got up and walked out. He took his damn candy though. If he couldn't eat. They couldn't. It seemed fair.

Again Jan could handle whatever was going on between her and Clint. If the Avengers were coming back they had some work to do. He gave the group a second a moment to grieve the loss of the discount Easter candy before continuing.

"So that's me and Thor! Good!" He rested a hand on Jan's shoulder in an attempt to get her focus again. "We have a team! I think all that's left is training, not saying that we've all gone a bit soft but we could definitely do with some drills and I think everyone can agree we are in dire need of some team building exercises."

Pietro wasn't going to leave Wicked or the apartment to move into the Mansion, but it was probably worth noting that he'd prefer to keep his teaching job too.

"You could make it a regular thing. Get together at least one day out of the week." Which meant commitment and being willing to make that apart of their schedule.
