Characters: Jess, Wanda, OTA who wants to come over and visit.
Setting: Their apartment - Thanksgiving early evening.
Content: LOL
Summary: It's the girls' first Thanksgiving in their new home and, okay, they fake it 'til they make it, but hey! They made the turkey.
Done. Jessica examined her work, marveling at how far she'd come. The rosemary topping was exactly what her bowl of canned cranberry sauce needed. It was perfect, really. She cleaned around the bowl and then held it up to Wanda to appraise before she set it on the dining table along with the other food the two women had prepared for the holiday. They had whipped sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, and stuffing. Buttered rolls and Kraft's macaroni and cheese pasta, which they expertly made themselves. There was a honeyed ham, sliced to perfection. The dessert table was covered in pies and cakes, all made with an impressive amount of effort and care. It was an exhausting amount of work, watching their new favorite baker down the street put them together, but it had to be done. This was, after all, Wanda and Jessica's first big holiday spent together in their new home, and it could not be short of excellent.
Their biggest obstacle, however, was the turkey, which they'd agreed they'd make themselves. Memories of her miserable (and unmentioned) attempt years before caused her to shudder, even now as the timer went off, but there didn't appear to be any smoke spilling from the oven, so that was a good sign, right? Sidling up to Wanda's side, Jessica shot the oven a wary glance before she grabbed the oven mittens (that, until now, had merely been a decorative kitchen device) and pulled the bird out and set it on the counter. Exchanging an uncertain look at her partner, she pulled the top off for the big reveal. "Huh." With a surprised quirk of her brow, she turned to Wanda and said, "Doesn't look half bad, does it?"
