Nicholas Fury's Trial
Q: Young lady, please give your name to the court.
A: Wicked (defiant glare)
Q: (long pause) Wicked. Well, Wicked, you’ve worked for S.H.I.E.L.D. in the past?
A: Yes. Nick Fury is my superior.
Q: What were you doing before you met Fury?
A: None of your business! (Looks over at Lawyers giving her to eye) (annoyed sigh) Nothing, I was homeless.
Q: And, if my records are correct. A petty thief.
A: Objection! (Looks at judge) I don’t see how my past transgressions have anything to do with this trial. And also on the grounds the prosecutor has a haircut like a jackass.
Q: It has everything to do with this trial. You are one in a long line of undesirables that Fury has brought into S.H.I.E.L.D. during his tenure as Director. Undesirables that he has working directly for him. What was your first assignment with S.H.I.E.L.D.? Understand that the records have been declassified and that you are under oath.
A:Undesirable? (GLARE) I bet you charm all the girls with that line.(Long pause then slouches back in the chair) My first job was to infiltrate the highly dangerous mutant terrorist group known as The Brotherhood of Mutants. Then I reported back with my discoveries.
Q: To my understanding your position was compromised and you were forced to scrap the mission. Is that incorrect?
A: To protect a civilian I needed to blow my cover.
Q: 'Protect a civilian.' you mean the child you kidnapped- a plot which Fury was entirely aware of and did nothing to prevent.
A: (through clenched teeth) He didn’t have a choice! I couldn’t just not go through with it Magneto was watching everyone like a hawk because Pietro had been taken by the Avengers. Had Nick stopped it or told the Hogans he would have known there was a leak! He would have killed me and had another member take Anthony!
(Pause) I-it was my fault, It was my plan to convince Magnus to let me take care of Anthony and have the Hogans completely informed. Which is stupid and I realized that, which is why I had to blow my cover and take him back! Nick would never have let the Brotherhood hurt him!
Q: And I’m sure Fury is very touched that you believe that of him, but his track record says otherwise. So, you left your post in the Brotherhood and then, apparently, disappeared from S.H.I.E.L.D. Except, of course, and I’m sure you’ll agree that this is particularly strange, we’ve found an account in S.H.I.E.L.D.’s financial department that continues to release funds to you. Which we can only infer means you continue to be paid for off-record services on the S.H.I.E.L.D. payroll.
A: This is such bull shit.If this were the FBI or the CIA none of this shit would be dragged up! I’m still on the payroll big fucking whoop! I’m sure it says that, I double crossed the Brotherhood maybe there’s no record of me because Nick was trying to keep them from getting back at me, ever think of that?!
Q: There’s always a record, Miss Wicked. Have you been doing other work for Fury?
A: (Shrugs) According to your records have I?
Q: I’m asking you.
A: Dude you’re the one with the evidence. I really don’t know what you’re talking about. I was just another agent after the incident.
Q: So you’re saying you’ve been completely inactive with S.H.I.E.L.D. all this time but are still on the payroll?
A: No I’m saying I’ve been active just not on any papers. And unless you have anything that proves it I don’t have to tell you nothin’.
Q: You’ve just admitted it and you are still under oath. What sort of work have you been doing for Fury?
A: Classified.
Q: You are aware that your refusal to give information is doing no one any good?
A: And are you aware that this is the motherfucking US of A and I have a constitutional right not to testify to anything that is still classified as it compromises my work and safety.
Q: I am perfectly aware of that, but thank you, I wasn’t aware you’d had extensive legal training young lady. Obviously your mutant abilities aren’t your only talent.
A:(Pause and glare) No I guess my mutant brain can comprehend my very American and human rights.
Q: Are you sure you’re American?
A: Yeah! Of course!
Q: Even though you don’t even know your real name. Who your parents were.
A: (Evenly) I was two when I was dropped off at CPS and could understand English. Regardless of my past I’ve been a citizen since then.
Q: And how would you feel if I could tell you who your parents are?
A:(Pause) This has nothing to do with the trial.
Q: What if I told you that Nicholas Fury could tell you who your parents are? That he’s had access to that information for the entirety of your relationship and that he’s deliberately kept it from you.
A: Then I’d say stop perpetuating lawyer stereotypes and shut your lying mouth!
Q: Except that it isn’t a lie, Darcy. It’s in his records.
A: You're lying he would have told me! This has nothing to do with anything.
Q: Not if it was of no benefit to him. You have been manipulated and used by a man who has no regard for the people around him or how his actions affect them. His own personal agenda is all that matters to Nicholas Fury and the world has suffered for it.
A: (Angry) No one fucking manipulates me! No one! You’re full of shit!
Q: No further questions.
--
Q: Please state your name and occupation for the court, ma’am.
A: Janet Van Dyne. Um...Avenger? I guess?
Q: You guess. (Pause) You were a team founder, is that correct?
A: Does that count? I mean I am one. Obviously. I just didn’t know if that was like...a court worthy...occupation...is all. Y-yeah. I’m a founding member.
Q: And did you know Nicholas Fury before the Avengers were founded?
A: Yes I did.
Q: In what capacity?
A: He was interested in Dr. Pym’s work, and later in my bio engineering.
Q: For, what, weaponry?
A: Uh, well...defensive...weaponry. He was looking into the possibility, but nothing ever came of it.
Q: And that was with Dr. Pym’s work or your bioengineering?
A: Both, but I was only personally involved with the bioengineering, the rest I heard second hand.
Q: So let’s focus on the bioengineering, then. What exactly did your bioengineering work focus on?
A: I was altered at a biological level so that when I shrunk using the Pym particles I could grow a pair of functioning wings, and shoot wasp stings.
Q: And is there any sort of limit to what you think bioengineering could achieve?
A: Um...well no, theoretically. I don’t think we’re quite there yet, but I’m sure in the future there would be very few limits.
Q: What do you think Fury wanted the technology for exactly?
A: Defense. ...Offense, maybe. Soldiers. I mean obviously I guess it’s in the same vein as the attempts to recreate the super soldier serum.
Q: Did you offer Fury your services in this endeavor?
A: N-no, I refused.
Q: On what grounds?
A: I didn’t feel comfortable with it, and neither did Dr. Pym. It isn’t something that was meant to be weaponized.
Q: Did Fury persist?
A: Mm...Yes.
Q: What would you think if I had records verifying that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been developing technology identical to that which you and Dr. Pym have created?
A: ...Excuse me?
Q: For- (checks his papers) over two years now.
A: ...I wasn’t aware. I-I’m not thrilled to hear it, honestly.
Q: When I say identical, Miss Van Dyne, I mean completely identical. It’s Dr. Pym’s work, there’s no doubt.
A: ...That work is protected. And the property of Van Dyne laboratories.
Q: And yet Fury’s R&D department has it.
A: We’ll have to investigate that.
Q: Thank you, Miss Van Dyne, I have no further questions.

STEVE
Q: Please tell the court your name and profession, sir.
A: Steven Grant Rogers, Captain America.
Q: Are you well acquainted with Nicholas Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
A: Yes Sir, I am.
Q: How long have you known him?
A: Almost 70 years. We served together at times in the war.
Q: Having known Fury as long as you have, would it be safe to assume you’ve taken good measure of his character?
A: I would say so.
Q: And what is your overall impression of Nicholas Fury’s character?
A: He’s a good man. Brave. Would do anything for his country.
Q: A glowing recommendation, Captain, but your history with Fury tells a rather different story.
A: How so?
Q: You and Fury haven’t always seen eye to eye on the Director’s particular methods.
A: We’ve had some disagreements, but I’ve never doubted his motives.
Q: What motives are those, Captain Rogers? That all of his work is for the greater good?
A: For the good of America.
Q: Would you agree that Fury tends to be morally ambiguous?
A: I wouldn’t say he tends to be. But he can be at times, yes.
Q: As a leader yourself do you think that’s a good quality for a leader to have?
A: ...I would say it is a common trait for people that high on the totem pole. Personally, no, I don’t think it is a good quality, but I’m not up for that sort of job.
Q: But you’ve taken issue with Fury’s handling of his job in the past- is it true that you left the Avengers specifically because of an order given by Fury?
A: ...Yes.
Q: Can you tell the court what that order was?
A: ...To kill Bruce Banner.
Q: Which was not, in your opinion, for the good of America?
A: It may have been, but I didn’t think it was the right call regardless.
Q: In all honesty, Captain, given his past choices do you think Nicholas Fury is the right man to be leading S.H.I.E.L.D.?
A: ...I think he has done an excellent job.
Q: Your hesitation wasn’t lost on any of us, Captain Rogers. No further questions.
--
Q: Give your name and occupation to the court.
A: Pietro Lehnsherr. Avenger.
Q: Pietro Lehnsherr, son of Magneto?
A: ...Son of Magnus Lehnsherr, yes. Is that relevant?
Q: It is. You are the son of Magneto and a mutant terrorist, correct?
A: ...I am an Avenger.
Q: But you were, once, a mutant terrorist, correct?
A: …Yes.
Q: In spite of this fact, Director Fury offered you protection. Yes?
A: ...Yes, but-
Q: But what, Mr. Lehnsherr?
A: ...It was a unique situation.
Q: My records say it was to protect you from your father who, at the time, considered you and your sister traitors. You were put up on the helicarrier. Tell the court what happened next, Mr. Lehnsherr?
A: Once S.H.I.E.L.D. cleared me I was offered a place on the Avengers.
Q: Before that. While you were still on the helicarrier. b
A: ...My father came after myself and my sister.
Q: So Magneto attacked the metal boat in the sky where Fury felt it was prudent to keep you?
A: I’m not sure he was the sole person in charge of that decision.
Q: He was. (pause) (clears his throat) So, Mr. Lehnsherr, as you were saying, after the debacle with the helicarrier you were offered a place on the Avengers?
A: Yes, I was.
Q: In spite of your past.
A: Is that a question?
Q: An observation. Once you had become an Avenger, did you cut all ties with your father?
A: I- [pause]...yes.
Q: Mr. Lehnsherr, you are under oath.
A: I did my best.
Q: You did your best. (snort) And how recently have you had contact with your father?
A: Voluntary contact?
Q: Yes.
A: ...Recently. During the...infection. But before then it had been quite a while.
Q: So even once you were an Avenger under S.H.I.E.L.D. and after you continued to have voluntary contact with a known terrorist?
A: Under extreme circumstances.
Q: And can you tell me why it is that you were invited into the Avengers in the first place?
A: I had unique skills to offer.
Q: According to Nicholas Fury’s own report on the subject he felt that you would, one, serve as insurance to keep the Scarlet Witch on the team and two, serve as a constant reminder to Magneto of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s power.
A: ...I see.
Q: Given this information, do you feel you were brought into S.H.I.E.L.D. under false pretenses?
A: ...No. Are we done?
Q: Yes, Mr. Lehnsherr, we’re done.
