Much more than she expected out of him, surprise, but he was starting to babble and it all sounded weirdly forced to her ears. She wasn't sure whether she preferred false bravado or sullen silence from him. The change in subject was almost as much a relief as getting out of the elevator. "I'm fine, busy," she echoed and for her all of that was true, and she was happy that way, always having something to do. No time for red dresses or lounging around, not lately, and that was great- it gave her less time to think and dwell on things she couldn't change. Wallowing wasn't going to help anyone.
She shot him a rueful smile over her shoulder and shared the one unfortunate spot in her recent whirlwind of activities, "I was so glad to be out of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s med bay and then I went and got myself put right back into it. At least I wasn't there for too long this time." And at least she hadn't had the same caustic nurse, that had been a huge plus about her return to S.H.I.E.L.D. post-Loki. As they walked the hallway towards the door at the end she started digging around in her bag for the keys she'd only dropped in there ten minutes ago and which now seemed to have been swallowed into an abyss.
