There was a shift in Kitty's voice. Something was really starting to hit home. He shifted nervously and kept his eyes glued on the doorknob. After a careful pause, he turned and cast a very confused gaze at her way. He was completely floored here. Did she know exactly what she was offering? Did she even realize the danger involved. If Shield found out he was free and that the X-Men had broken the deal god knows what could happen. He remembered an earlier conversation Quicksilver regarding the organization. Pietro spoke about the top shield guy like he was serious business. A terrible enemy to have on your tail. Could the X-Men really handle a situation like that could escalate into that? Calvin had serious doubts.
Still, there was an allure to the offer. He couldn't deny that. After an uncomfortable amount of time in limbo, Cal stepped back from the door. He gave Kitty a hard long look and then took a seat on her bed. "Yeah, but can you afford me?" He joked with an entirely deadpan voice. Perhaps he just wasn't going about this the right way. Hell, this was by all intents probably the end of the world. There were only so many mutant left now that most of the country was gone. Standing by one of the last surviving pockets of mutantkind wasn't a bad idea. Besides, if the world bounced back he could worry about Shield then. Living life on what could happen was no way to go about things. "I haven't forgotten. I know you're one of us. So is most of the school. And..I don't think I can turn my back on that. We have to survive." He turned then and glanced down at his hands. "I shouldn't have yelled. I know that.."
