When you go in search of honey-
Characters: Happy, Pepper, Bobbi
Setting: Central Park Winter Valentine's Day Carnival
Content: GIANT BEES
Summary: A perfectly nice afternoon is ruined by giant bees
New York City was a dangerous place to live. No more dangerous than any big city, a native would tell you, but you always needed to watch your back and your wallet if you were out and alone anywhere at night. Aside from muggers and your average ne'er-do-wells, New York also had a unique set of problems that its citizens had to contend with in the form of super powers. Mutants, capes, villains- they all caused catastrophe on a regular basis in the city and it made the lives of the everyday people living there that much harder. Sometimes it was giant robots or supervillains throwing a tantrum or the Hulk going on a rampage or aliens attacking from outerspace. Today it was bees. Giant bees the size of Great Danes, hovering through the air with their two foot long stingers.
The bees swept down on Central Park's Winter Valentine's Day carnival in the middle of the afternoon. A swarm of regular sized bees was terrible but a swarm of giant bees was bordering on nightmarish. People ducked and tried to hide and the bees seemed agitated by all the shrieks and chaos. What was supposed to be, for Happy, a nice Valentine's Day afternoon out with the wife after lunch turned quickly to terror. Happy shouldn't have been all that surprised, few things ever went according to plan. He took Pepper by the hand as soon as the screams started and pulled her out of the rush of a stampede of panicked people. When he saw what everyone was freaking out about, he almost panicked himself.
Happy was allergic to bees. He'd found that out the hard way as a kid, had to go to the hospital and everything. The upside to giant bees, he figured, was that if he got stabbed through with one of those stingers at least he'd bleed out before he had an allergic reaction and went into anaphylactic shock. He ducked down an alley between the midway game booths and the Tunnel of Love, hoping to find some back way out of the carnival and out into the park, away from the swarms and the hordes of terrified people. The whir of helicopters overheard made him glance up and, good thing too, because he was able to dodge the bee that came bearing down on he and Pepper with it's stinger out. It was coming down fast and he knew they weren't going to out run it. When it drew level with them Happy stopped short, dropped Pepper's hand, and shot out a right hook at it's furry bee body, following it up with a left between it's antennae on its head. Part of him couldn't believe he that he was boxing against a giant bee. But then, this was New York City so this probably wasn't the weirdest thing he was going to do in his lifetime. Maybe, he thought to himself, I oughta move the family to New Jersey or something.
