There wasn't even an excuse for Wanda's gift that Tony could even bring himself to attempt. Its origins were probably obvious, at least he hoped so anymore, so all Tony could do was open his mouth then quickly shut it, nodding apologetically to confirm any suspicions. Obviously undeserving, he wasn't particularly eager to open his and was more happy to play Wanda's game for it. The kitchen still loomed, though, and when she released him Tony made to prop his head in his hand with his elbow on the back of the couch, passing his fingers over his lips. What the hell was he supposed to tell her?
The box was held in his lap for a moment as Tony decided the solution was to smile at her and deal with any problems as they came up. That usually worked. Then he examined the gift, skeptical, like he couldn't really believe anyone would bother getting him a physical gift (that wasn't a physical gift) before he tore it open. Now that was an interesting piece. Tony held the watch experimentally against his wrist as Wanda explained, remembering the minor drama that erupted following the auction with little clarity, mostly lamenting missing his chance and deciding to forget about it with another bottle of vodka. He was sure he knew some people that might help him get to the bottom of its origins. Just because a man didn't wear a watch didn't mean he'd find no reason to have one.
"That's really magic, princess. Thank you," he said with a downright revelatory amount of honesty that Tony didn't even have the time to reflect on with his attention riveted to the watch. He even reached out for her before he could tear himself away, only letting it rest in his lap when he got an arm around her for a thankful hug.
