Housewarming
Characters: Tony, Wicked and the West Coast Avengers
Setting: WCA Malibu headquarters, evening
Content: Sexual situations?
Summary: Friends stop by to check out the new place! Hopefully the WCA have been doing their housekeeping.
A car squealed onto the tarmac forty-seven minutes after estimated departure time, sixty-two minutes after the sleek, black limo had rolled serenely alongside the waiting jet and the driver had helped Wicked inside. The first person to climb out of the new car was Happy Hogan, from the driver's side, who rushed to open the door first for Pepper, and was too slow to do the same for Tony Stark. He, Tony, pushed himself to his feet in a leisurely, languid way, not in any rush like his friends appeared to be, and leaned with his hands on the hood of the car at his open door to declare across it at Pepper, "I'm saying, it's my name on the building, they can wait for me." Pepper didn't have an answer or any sympathy for him, and only turned her nose up, leaving Tony to slam the door and trail after her and Happy with their bags. From where they had been hooked over the collar of his t-shirt, he plucked his sunglasses to push them onto his nose, looking irritated with this treatment and obvious telling off for being the one to cause the delay, as he crossed the pavement and bounced up the airstairs into the cabin. Pepper's disdain continued as they joined Wicked and she still said nothing, as if the girl wasn't there or wasn't worth the effort. Tony, though, when he finally noticed her, after attentively greeting his stewardesses and making some elaborate requests for Pepper's comfort during the flight, immediately flipped from irritated to delighted, with a wide and welcoming smile. It only occurred to him in that moment that he should have been concerned about how Pepper and Happy might react to this arrangement, and thought maybe he should apologize for not giving them any warning. Not that anything had to change. "Make yourself at home, sweetheart," he invited, as though he hadn't just kept Wicked waiting for an hour. There was only so much he could think to apologize for at once. Excusing himself, he confided, "The mistress is making me work," with a sidelong look towards the curtain behind which Pepper had disappeared, then pulled Wicked in for a quick kiss to her cheek and was gone before she could object. For the rest of that journey, he was behind the curtain either bent intently over the files Pepper had for him, or talking to floating, blue-tinted heads whose projections would follow his pacing.
It wasn't long, though, before they were making a smooth landing on a private airstrip, the city and its congestion passed by. If Tony noticed or appreciated the change from the overcast New York skies to the clear blue of California, he didn't let on. As they made their way to their already idling vehicle, attendants with their luggage veering off in some other direction that didn't seem to concern anyone at all, Tony's only words were instructions for Happy to drop them off at the house then go with Pepper to the office. It was finally when they were together in the back seat of the car that Tony smiled at Wicked again and draped his arm along the seat behind her, but kept quiet. The apologetic flinch he gave when Pepper slammed her door must have been clear enough. At least the scenery was engaging; the road wound along the sheer edge of a cliff, overlooking a slate blue ocean whose peaks glittered in the sunlight, and passed the gates of the compound was acres of impossibly manicured lawn dotted with towering trees and oversaturated beds of flowers. The house itself sat on the edge of the cliff, reaching out over the water and casting its shadow over the pink and grey rock, looking out into the sea.
