This was, outside of love, the greatest feeling in the world. Characters: Magneto, Mystique, Sabretooth Setting: The Raft Content: Mayhem? Summary: Magnus breaks into the Raft and breaks out several of its inmates.
“It must be terrible to be a guard at a superhuman prison,” Magnus remarked to Mystique, looking thoughtful as he stared down at the body of a man on the ground at his feet. The body in question belonged to a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent charged with the protection of the Raft, a superhuman holding facility that seemed to host breakouts surprisingly frequently. It also had a high employee turn over rate and most of the sixty-seven S.H.I.E.L.D. agents assigned as guards had managed to get on someone’s bad side before they were conveniently sent there. Magnus prodded the body with his toe, an eyebrow raised in disgust and continued his musing, “But I suppose the benefits package is satisfactory.” Which didn’t do much good for the dead man, but as Magnus understood it, S.H.I.E.L.D. also offered a good life insurance policy.
Thanks to the information Mystique had gathered at S.H.I.E.L.D., Magnus knew that this guard was the most tenured at the prison and also possessed Level Ten clearance, which meant it wouldn’t look at all suspicious when he arrived with no forewarning bringing Magneto in as a prisoner.
“Thank you, my dear, you’ve proven most invaluable,” Magnus complimented Mystique and reached over to brush his lips over her blue fingertips in a kiss before she transformed into the sack of meat and bones sprawled before them. The man looked scrappy, muscular and scarred, a veteran of five of Raft breakout attempts in the past four years. This would be number six and, too bad for him, he hadn’t survived to witness it. After every breakout they’d been forced to make some major change and heighten security and, surely, within a month’s time everything would have been rebuilt with non-magnetic materials. For now, however, it was all metallic and ripe for destruction at the hands of Magneto.
The beauty of this plan was that it was so delightfully deceptive. They needed only to stroll in with Magneto as an apparent prisoner and begin their mayhem once they reached the Maximum Security area. Magnus had the layout memorized and knew the exits available once the most dangerous prisoners were freed. Of those he would recruit from the mutants (due to Mystique’s efforts, he also possessed vital information about all of the inmates) and then, with their help, take out as many agents as possible and wreck the prison. Meanwhile, other Brotherhood members would be wreaking havoc in the city to keep all the superheroes and S.H.I.E.L.D. teams occupied so that he could leave unchallenged having secured new weapons for his cause and achieved a heavy blow against S.H.I.E.L.D. It was all so much better than a direct assault, getting in unharmed and leaving before they could strike back. If all went according to plan, this would be a victorious day, indeed.
