Something was happening. Cassie didn't know what was going on, so she waited in the darkness and watched. It was simply a matter of being in the right place at the right time that allowed Stature to see a group of people dressed in dark clothes creeping (yeah, seriously, creeping) into some house. She'd just shrunk to leave the scene of a foiled mugging a few streets over- it was pretty much the easiest way to disappear into the night, the Stature equivalent of a cloud of smoke- and was luckily still small when she came across the home invasion. Maybe it wasn't actually that, there were all kinds of explanations probably, but it didn't look right and it didn't feel right.
As soon as she heard screaming she knew it wasn't right and she grew to her normal size, prepared to burst in and to the rescue. Cassie made it as far as the front stoop when the door opened and someone stepped out, a woman in a golden mask wearing very little for a winter night. In the glow of the streetlights Cassie noticed the stranger wiping something dark from her foot. Blood. Was that blood? Involuntarily, Stature grew a foot and mounted the first step to confront the masked woman. "What are you doing here?" she asked. It seemed to be an appropriate first question.
