And now, Life, Pride, Love, Patriotism and Death-
Characters: Open to everyone who would reasonably be there
Setting: Central Park, NY
Content: Nothing bad
Summary: A giant Fourth of July/Cap's Birthday party for the city in Central Park
The shrieking and laughter of children split the warm afternoon air on the north side of the Lake in Central park where a full carnival was set up in celebration of the Fourth and the birthday of the iconic Captain America. The carnival was only a part of a larger festival unimaginatively named "America's Birthday Party" being hosted by the Avengers and funded by Stark Enterprises with contributions from city businesses. Really, it amounted to a fantastic PR opportunity that shouldn't be ignored.
The carnival was populated by rickety rides and attractions, among them a ferris wheel, a carousel, bumper cars, a fun house and a terrifying pendulum ride dubiously called the Kamikaze. There were, of course, obligatory junk food vendors- cotton candy and funnel cakes and candied apples. Finally, no carnival would be complete without rigged prize games where you tossed rings at bottles and won a stuffed animal worth less than you paid to play, and at this fair were two special booths; one for dunking and another with a sign reading 'Kiss A Superhero' (where, for a dollar, one could get a hug or a kiss on the cheek for those bold enough to risk it in an age of germophobia), both of which were ostensibly to be manned throughout the day by members of the Avengers. Near the carnival there was a fenced in petting zoo with a few surprisingly exotic animals in attendance.
Aside from the carnival junk food, an area was set up to serve hot dogs and hamburgers and sundry sides. A freezer truck was parked nearby, containing a large cake, meant to be a birthday cake for both country and Captain. A massive stage was erected where local bands would be displaying their talent throughout the day until the evening when the New York Philharmonic would grace the crowds with its presence and perform to a fireworks display. Only minutes before the Mayor himself had given a speech to open the festivities where he recited a patriotic poem and made allusions to recent catastrophes and America's eternal perseverance. The Avengers were now strolling through the crowds meeting with the public, and more festival goers arrived every minute. It was a promising start to what the organizers were already gleefully declaring, as their coffers filled with the money of sugar addicted children and their helpless parents, to be a very successful celebration.
