Characters: Nick, Tony, NPC Russians
Setting: Krasnodar, Southern Russia
Content: Nick Fury
Summary: Nick and Tony foil a plot to nuke the U.S. sort of
There was a mystery, slowly unraveling, and Nick and Tony were like fucking Sherlock Holmes and Watson, trying to figure this shit out. Secretly, though, Nick felt more like the sidekick on this one. His Russian was rudimentary, at best. He could understand more than he could say, and what he could say was often peppered with colorful expletives ("Dobry den', motherfucker"). He was also met with initial distrust from Tony's comrade Bukharin and that had to be surmounted before they got anywhere. Anywhere ended up being a helluva place to reach.
Turned out that, yeah, there was all kinds of crazy shit going down here. Turned out that yeah the government was in on it. Turned out that fuck, they really didn't want anyone finding out about it. That became clear after an assassination attempt on Nick his first night in, courtesy of a Russian prostitute ("Vy ochen' krasivy, bitch, tseluyu"). After that they had to go "underground," staying in the home of friends of Bukharin, Nick being forced to play card games with old Russian women while Stark was off doing who knew what, probably deflowering the family's teenaged daughters or something. At least the vodka around here was very very good. Nubile virgins and stomach-stripping alcohol aside, this place was pretty fucked up.
They tried, initially, to go east and quickly learned that this was going to be damned near impossible to accomplish. For one, when they got as far east as Surgut, plane instruments lost their ability to function, vehicles could barely manage, and to try to traverse any farther on foot without a guidance system was idiotic, at best. Beyond that, there were military guards stationed at checkpoints all along the main roads and, so rumor had it, their weapons got more interesting the farther east you went. This was going to take further investigation and a lot more manpower than just the dynamic duo of Fury and Stark. By Wednesday morning they'd decided that the best option then, was to cut their losses and head home to regroup, reconnect with S.H.I.E.L.D. and form a plan of action. This decision was put on ice when they learned of a more immediate danger that the pair of them could do something about. A friend of Bukharin's was, until recently, stationed at a secret military base outside of Krasnodar near the Black Sea. All it took was several shots and Nick's particular military charm ("Yeshche vypit, Comrade Cocksucker!") to loosen the man's tongue.
Apparently this little base was the control center for the last of the armed nuclear satellites that Russia was supposed to have disarmed. Not only had they failed to do so, but there was a plan to initiate a launch sequence- today. ʹTony, in true Tony Stark fashion, assured Nick I've got this. Nick, meanwhile, wasn't so full of fucking faith as to not make contingency plans. They were still East and Nick hadn't been able to make a phone call in hours. When Tony realized there was too much alien interference to remotely disarm the satellite, Nick had secured them a plane ride to Krasnodar to handle this in person and Bukharin was offering Tony the use of his Crimson Dynamo suit.
So that was what brought the pair here, to this little single-building compound outside Krasnodar where Nick had just taken out two guards and stepped aside to let Tony hack into the security system and get them inside the building, or whatever the fuck it was he could do. At least the electronic interference this far south wasn't as terrible. Maybe they might actually be able to save the world here or, at least, America.
