WHO: Caden & Veronica. WHERE: Outside V's room and then the beach WHEN: Last night, right after Nathan's abduction RATING: PG-13 to R WARNINGS: Mild violence? STATUS: Complete
Veronica was beyond pissed. After leaving a message for Peter, she slammed her laptop shut, shaking her head in disgust. How could Peter say those things to sweet Gabe? He'd done what he had to do, what was necessary and now Peter couldn't deal with it? Fuck that. Veronica was going to kick his ass later. She pulled her hair into a ponytail and stepped out of her room. She'd told Gabe to meet her outside of it.
The young man in question was nowhere to be seen, even though they were supposed to meet there. Five minutes - the allotted time for his arrival - came and went, and there was no sign of the teenager anywhere. Maybe he had gotten cold feet, or something was up. Whatever was going on, he was nowhere to be found, as five minutes turned to ten, then fifteen.
Veronica went back into her room to see if there was any message from Gabe, she found none but Peter had answered her, so she replied to him. She rubbed the back of her neck and grabbed a soda, waiting a few more minutes and then poking her head back out the door to see if Gabe was there yet. She was worried about him, really worried. His mental state couldn't be the greatest right now, since he'd committed murder and all. And for Peter to be a humongous tool and throw him out? That was just freaking wrong. She stepped back outside her room and sat on the floor, waiting for Gabe to arrive as she sipped her soda.
By the time he did arrive, he was about twenty minutes late, out of breath and sweating as he came jogging up. The last little 'appointment' he'd had had taken longer than anticipated. He quickly had to throw on an air of sadness, the youthful face that came into view looking absolutely devastated, tear tracks clear on his skin as he walked up. His shoulders were hunched, and he sniffled slightly, forcing a weak little half-smile. "Hey . . ."
Veronica got to her feet quickly as soon as she saw him. She was so worried, and she could tell he'd been crying. She embraced him tightly, shaking her head. She was glad she'd yelled at Peter. Maybe he'd come to his senses. She'd ask Gabe how he was holding up. but it was obvious from the look on his face. "Where do you want to go?" She asked. She'd been in the mood for a snack but now she was playing the concerned friend role. She was good at that too. She just held him for a few more seconds before she let him go.
'Gabe' was quiet as he rested in Veronica's arms, his eyes closing as he rested his head on her shoulder. He wasn't that much taller than her, so he didn't have to really lean down too much to rest there. Soft, sniffling breaths escaped his lips as he stood there against her, letting her comfort him a little as he breathed in her scent. This was way too easy, already . . . "I don't know . . . Away?" It was the best answer he could give, pulling back and wiping at his eyes before he sniffled again.
She nodded. She understood wanting to get away. She kissed his cheek gently. "Let's go down to the beach okay?" She suggested. The water would probably calm him a little. She was worried about him. How could Peter abandon him at a time like this? She didn't mention anything about Peter for now. "Do you want a soda?" She asked. "I can duck back into my room and grab you one."
The kiss was a little startling, and he blinked slightly, having to fight off the urge to smirk. After all, the kid didn't really smirk usually, did he? Not from what Nina had shown him before. "Okay . . ." He was quiet for a long moment or two as he scuffed his toe along the floor, acting as shy and quiet and devastated as he was sure he was supposed to. "Do you have any water?" He asked timidly, chewing on his lower lip.
Veronica nodded. "Did you want some water then?" She opened the door to her room back up, tempted to see if she got another message from Peter. "Can you hold my soda while I get you a water?" She requested, offering him a smile. Gabe was hurting and Veronica wanted to be there for him. "Oooh we can go swimming if you want." Maybe that would cheer him up a little.
"Please?" he asked shyly, giving Veronica a smile. The last capture had gone far too easily; this one was bound to be trouble. When she asked if he could hold her soda, he had to fight off the urge to grin. Oh, that was too convenient. "Sure, Veronica," he answered in Gabriel's voice, giving another little half-smile. Once she was gone back into the room, he pulled from his pocket a set of pills, given to him by Nina. He remembered the pills well; they would tamp down Veronica's abilities to keep her more . . . well, docile, for lack of a better term; easier to handle and control. Opening the capsules, he poured the contents into the soda before quickly disposing of the remains of the pill, sloshing the soda around just a little to mix it. No use letting her get a shot of bitterness right off the bat and getting suspicious, now was there?
Veronica was in her room for quite a few more minutes because she had to grab Gabe a water, and change into her swim suit, it was a little blue bikini that really brought out the blue of her eyes. She grabbed a towel, and slipped into a pair of flip flops before grabbing the water again. She still could not believe the things that Peter had said to Gabe, and she was tempted to check and see if he'd responded to her, but she didn't because she didn't want to keep Gabe waiting any longer. She opened the door and handed him the water, stepping out. "Sorry it took so long." She said, taking her soda from him. "Thanks for being so patient." She said, taking a big sip of the soda. It was...very fizzy but she didn't notice anything else. "Shall we go then?"
The waiting was starting to get to him by the time she reappeared, and the young man fidgeted just a little bit as he tried not to think too much on it. What if she'd figured it out? Fuck, this wasn't going to work, was it? When she finally appeared, he gave another little weak smile, watching carefully as she drank the soda. Well, that was a deep enough dose, wasn't it? He kept quiet as they walked, his shoulders hunched and head down as he played the devastated card for all it was worth. It was only when they were well away from the facility that he fell behind her, smirking to himself. "You're making this too easy."
Veronica was completely oblivious, and she'd finished her soda before they'd left the building, tossing it into a recycling bin. She didn't know why they had them, she'd never seen anyone come get them, but they were empty every Monday morning like clockwork or something. She was fairly quiet on their walk down to the beach with him. When he said what he did, she looked confused as hell. "Wait, what did you say?"
So apparently he was playing his part right. She seemed completely oblivious to what was going on, even as he lagged behind and spoke. When she turned to look at him, obviously confused, the smirk only grew. This was going to be fun. "You know, he said other things, too . . . Like the fact that you're the dumbest blonde he's ever met." With that, and a dark chuckle, 'Gabriel' stepped forward, his appearance morphing from the teenage face that Veronica had been looking at, the one that she actually cared about, and into the face of the shapeshifter, Caden Wilmer. "Surprise."
Veronica didn't know what was going on, but she didn't like it. Gabriel would never say something like that to her. Something was very wrong here, Peter wouldn't say that either. Veronica's heart starting pounding, as she realized she'd been tricked. She watched him morph into Caden Wilmer and she gasped a little. She waved with her hand trying to throw him back...and nothing happened. "What...what did you do to me?" She asked stunned. She didn't wait for an answer as she took off running. She had little chance of escaping though, he was probably faster than she was.
Oh fuck no, there was no way he was letting her get away now! Caden let out a sharp curse and shook his head, running after her at full tilt. If there was one thing he was going to have to make sure, it was that neither of their little captives got away too soon. The pills would keep her from doing too much damage, at least, but he wasn't going to let her get too far way. His longer legs let him run faster, covering more area quicker than she could, and he caught up to her within seconds. Grabbing Veronica from behind, Caden shoved hard, slamming her head into a nearby tree to render her unconscious. Probably not exactly the smoothest way he could have done it, but it worked, didn't it?
Shaking his head, he panted for air, staring down at her unconscious body. "Stupid bitch." With that he hefted her small frame, draping her over his shoulders, and carried the unconscious girl off.
