Prompt/challenge you're answering: "Granny Weatherwax needs help that only Yoruichi can provide."
The organizers (as much as such a thing could be said to be organized) of the witching bee had originally held out a bit of hope that there might be a bit more variety in this year's leaders than in years past. This was on account of how everyone knew that Esme Weatherwax would win the top prize (as much as such a thing could be said to be won); but the addition of more categories, it was hoped, might lead to more witches gaining some sort of recognition (and therefore having more distributed targets for the weight of the collective grumbling).
They were starting out small -- if they were going to muck with tradition, after all, they had to use very traditional methods of mucking with tradition. So the three new categories they'd added were cauldron-aided foresight, broomstick skills, and familiars.
After all, the not-a-committee reasoned, even if Esme was widely acknowledged to have the fastest broomstick in the Ramtops once she managed to get the thing going, and even if she could transplant an entire country fifteen years through time if she took a mind to it and cauldron-foreseeing would likely be a drop in the metaphorical bucket -- she had a small fluffy white kitten. Witches' cats were expected to be black, except in the case of Greebo, who made his own rules and might well be in the running if Gytha Ogg could keep him out of the buffet long enough for the judging to take place.
Then Esme arrived, on her legendary broomstick. With a perfectly respectable full-sized black cat primly riding the bristles. It even had the recommended glowing yellow eyes.
The fact that it could talk was just adding insult to injury, the not-a-committee thought very privately, in very small corners of their minds, just in case.
Clearly they'd have to come up with slightly less-traditional traditional categories next year.
