WHO: Digger and Twitch
WHEN: Monday afternoon
WHERE: Cafe Zzyyxx
WHAT: Exchange of sorts
WARNINGS: TBD
STATUS: Incomplete

______________

When the 'good officer' Digger called, The Five typically answered. It was usually because he had information or goods to exchange for credits. However, The Five couldn't risk doing the exchange themselves. Some of their own members didn't know their faces, and others if they did it wasn't as a Five, it was as their own moniker. So, when Digger called, an intermediary was picked. Someone different almost every time. This time, it was Twitch who had drawn the short straw.

Constance, aka Twitch, hated being an 'errand girl'. She had much more important things she could be doing- well not really, but they were more important to her. But there she was, sitting in the Cafe that fronted The Wire HQ. She wore a bright blue wig with purple underlights, a purple tanktop with a purple panda hoodie and unique pair of shorts with garters holding up what looked like the bottom of a full set of pants. Her outfit was rounded out with a pair of boots with a flourished white accent over the black leather and a pair of blue sunglasses that were wired for AR.

As she waited for her meeting she was jacked into the net through one of the datajacks behind her ear. Her tablet acting as her point of origin. As her mind navigated the online mall, a small screen popped up on her HUD. Facial recognition from her AR glasses had picked up a man and the camera showed him entering the Cafe. With a sigh, Twitch logged out of the net and reached back to unplug her datajack as she nodded to the barista who directed the officer to her table.

Twitch slipped her jack into her pocket and reached down to take a sip of her coffee. She'd let it sit for a while, it was lukewarm, but it was better than burning her tongue without realizing it. While some envied her lack of ability to feel pain, Constance knew it for the curse that needed constant attention. "Hey." She chirped, beaming a smile at the dark haired man as he approached. "Scone?" She offered, sliding a plate across the table.

All the gangs were nothing more than a means to an end in Riley Conners eyes, and the Wire was no exception. Despite the war bubbling up across the city, and the dead starting to pile up on the streets as well, the cop saw it all through the filter of basic economics 101. Basic supply and demand. Everyone needed something; be it the superficial wants and cravings, the need for security and validation, or to belong to a family. Those needs were at the core of everyone, and the corrupt cop had long since learned the value in capitalizing on those desires. Sure the criminal organizations were already doing the same thing, providing drugs, flesh, or a sense of belonging to those who needed it. Still instead of trying to take over and seize a monopoly on any one market Conners had figured the smartest play was to dabble in everything....all while walking that so fragile tight rope, and avoiding stepping on any toes too.

To the Cybermen he supplied hardware like guns and cybernetics. To the SSR it was cars or the paperwork to ensure their cars wouldn't be flagged as stolen. Camelot had been a tad trickier but in the end basic goods had been his in; offering over food, meds, credits, and quality of life types of goods as well. The CoD got the drugs that the cop confiscated during his day job, and the Wire...well for the high tech gang it was the datachips, ICD's, and stolen ids/bank account details that Riley had salvaged from the dead. All of those needs and wants, all that supply and demand, built off the dead. The never ending pile of corpses that the cop either killed himself, or that he had been contracted to cleanup for one of the gangs. The circle of life was dark to be sure, and at the center of it all was the man with the blood stained badge.

When the sun had set he was already on the job; handling a handful of contracts, cleaning up a few crime scenes to wipe away all trace of evidence before it could ever be linked back to the gangs too. After picking clean the dead, and disposing of the leftover remains, Digger made the rounds once more. Finishing up his drop offs in the heart of the other zones, until only one stop remained. Dealing with the Wire had always been easy enough. The cop didn't give a shit that the Five wanted to hide behind human proxies at all. As long as the man got paid that was all that mattered. So as he strolled into the cybercafe, casually dressed but with his firearm on his hip holster beside his badge fixed to his belt, Dig spotted his contact and paused to inspect the young woman carefully.

Oh there was no fear of this being a trap, no worry that he was being setup at all. Still he was a cautious man by trade, so when she flashed him a smile and offered up a scone, the cop ignored the offer completely and instead just shifted closer to quickly pat her down. When no weapon was felt he finally relaxed a tad, and Conners shook his head at last as he fished out a small case that contained the datachips taken from the dead. "I'm not here for tea and scones. Just the credits and that intel I had requested for payment."

Twitch rolled her eyes slightly when he patted her down. She didn’t need weapons to take someone out. She could end a life with just a few datanodes accessed. And they’d still be alive to suffer the complete inability to do anything. Being wiped wasn’t a nice thing to be. Some may posture and say it’s better than death, but what can you do when the world thinks you don’t exist? No money, no access, no nothing. She’d rather be dead.

“Wham bam thank you ma’am... I get it. All business.” Twitch ran her fingers along the inside of her wrist and a rectangle of what appeared to be her skin rose up slightly and split in half, revealing a hidden compartment. She reached inside and pulled out the data and credstick inside and placed them on the table between them. It wasn’t unusual for people to exchange ICEs and programs in Zzyyxx, so the swap wouldn’t appear abnormal out in the open. “But it’s butter caramel... real tasty.” She said. “Busy guy like yourself should make sure to eat-“ Twitch reaches out, the compartment in her arm closing, and broke off a piece of scone to munch. “Yum.”

Being wiped might have been a terrifying prospect for most, yet Conners was already living in the shadows. His 'life' and public image suited the man's needs yet all the records of him were barely skin deep. Oh he was a real cop, and even his name was real too. However behind the most basic of details, nothing else existed of him out there online. No traceable accounts, or social media links either that could ever trace back to the killer for hire. The perks of doing jobs for the largest gangs around were numerous, and even the Five had owed Dig a few favors too...which he had used to ensure there was no digital footprints of his left out there in the world. Well nothing beyond the shiny police officer/upstanding public figure facade that he wore like a mask. Favors were one of his favorite forms of currency around, though credits were good too. Still tonight was special. In exchange for a sizable 'contribution' of those reallocated goods, the cop had asked for something more than just credits.

Oh there was a decent sum of credits loaded on that credstick to be sure, but the real prize was the information...and the services of a little scone loving hacker too. Granted, Riley doubted the young woman had a clue about that last part. Especially since he had made the arrangement with one of the Five directly. Or 'directly' through their favorite lawyer. Without hesitation the corrupt cop tossed her the small case of datachips and ICD's, and pocketed the offered credstick too. Not bothering to verify the amount. No, his focus fell onto the intel she had handed over on the small chip. It took a moment to load it up into his phone device, but that wolfish grin quickly spread as the details flashed before his eyes on the HUD. Finally satisfied, and so very excited about what was to come, Digger chimed in at last. "This will do. I've got the gear you'll need in the trunk of my cruiser, so why don't you get that scone of yours to go and we will be off." Before the young woman could question what he was talking about Dig sent a quick text, and grinned anew as the Wire's lawyer sent the poor girl her marching orders for the evening.

Not bothering to wait and see how she'd react to being pimped out to a monster like him, Riley moved to grab a black coffee to go...giving the girl a chance to get caught up to speed. Oh there was a reason he had made this the last run of his night. A reason Dig had worked hard to complete his contracts early tonight....sure the man loved making money, but there was one passion he held even above wealth as well. Namely hunting down those that preyed on helpless kids. That intel from the Wire had been exactly what he needed; the security layout and schematics for his latest target. The old prick had been hiding himself away behind his wealth and connections. But tonight none of those things would save the bastard from a very bloody and brutal death. Not when the cop had the drive and desire to make the prick pay. And had a skilled hacker to help get past all that high tech security too.

Her brow furrowed at his comments, and then that little '!' icon showed up, she may have unjacked from the net, but her second dataport was always hooked up to her AR glasses. Yup, her services were being utilized. At least The Wire was willing to pay her for it. First look at the data the cop had secured. She just hoped it was worth it. She picked up the case and slipped it into her bag behind, in a secret compartment hiding in the lining and slipped her tablet inside before getting up.

"Well this should be fun." She hummed as she accessed the payment terminal through her HUD and paid out her tab, giving a nice tip. After all, she was there enough, tipping well meant that you got privacy and weren't kicked out when your cup ended and you didn't get a refill. As she got up she pulled the hood of her panda hoodie up and followed the officer. "So, this a sneaky sneak sort of gig, or a smash and grab?" Twitch asked, sorting through her programs to get them ready.

Some things, once broken, can never be fixed. Such was the sad but true case when it came to Officer Conners. The man had long since been twisted and shattered so far beyond repair; his mother dead by the time Riley was two, his drunk old man raising the boy with a less then tender touch. All those years under his father's roof, all the beatings and abuse at the hands of a narcissistic bastard with a badge as well...it was no real surprise that Digger had turned out so dark and wrong. Still for all the bad, for all the blackness within his heart, Riley had a sliver of humanity still present in his life. Oh a lot of that light had faded when Izzy died, and the cop had tumbled even further down the rabbit hole to be sure. However despite his apparent lack of mercy or compassion for any living being, when it came to little kids the corrupt cop had a code etched in blood and stone.

Killers, thieves, drug dealers, and gang members. He had no problem with any of them, or their professions. However any who sought to harm an innocent child, those predators were treated to the full rage that was usually restrained and left to bubble up just beneath Dig's typically emotionless demeanor. Just hearing Twitch mention fun had the man's devilish grin growing as he slowly nodded in agreement. So many ways to hurt people. To inflict pain on levels that most folks had never even dreamed possible. So many ways to have his 'fun' before his prey finally was dragged into hell kicking and screaming. "You'll stay by the car and take out the security grid, alarms, and power for me remotely. Talking complete black out. Then I will head into the building and....well I'll handle things from there. Shouldn't take more than a few hours at most, and the cops won't be bothering us either. Still stay by the car and do not come inside. No matter what you hear."

Honestly Dig's had no wish to kill the little hacker, but leaving behind a witness was never his style. So as long as she followed the rules the cop knew things would be fine. Plus as long as she was in the cruiser, well she'd be safe in there since the damn things were built like tank. "When it's all over you'll get your bonus wired to you, and you can keep the tech toys I bought for this job. I won't have any need for em afterward."

"Don't leave the car. Wouldn't dream of it." She nodded. Honestly, she didn't really care what he did. Okay, that was wrong. She cared, but it was easier not to care when she didn't look. Which was why she was a hacker. The damage she dealt was at a distance. Sure, sometimes it had real world consequences (most times), but it was all digital to her. If she didn't see him doing anything, then she didn't have to think about it. Besides, she wasn't naive enough to think this sort of stuff didn't happen.

It probably wasn't the first time Twitch's hacking resulted in people getting hurt either- in a more direct way. She'd taken down security in a number of buildings for clients. Granted most of the time she did it to point out flaws in the systems, there were a handful of challenging jobs she'd taken just for the challenge- without thinking of the repercussions. After all, no one would know she had a hand in it except her. If you don't have to face your demons- you don't have to confront them.

Twitch got into the car and dug in her bag for a wireless jack and an attachment for it to keep her masked, as well as protect her against any Black IC. "Doesn't sound too hard." She wasn't cocky, just confident.

At a distance or up close and personal, it made no real difference to Conners when it came to dealing out damage. Sure when it came to nights like tonight, came to targets he went out of his way to hunt, the cop favored snuffing the life out of them with his own bare hands. Still for the security detail, or any others not on his list, it would be a quick and clean death to be sure. After grabbing his coffee, and waiting for her to hop into the cruiser, Riley got in as well. The car roaring to life and soon heading out of the zone too.

In silence they sat, Dig far too caught up in reading and rereading the information the Wire had procured for him. Twenty minutes or so had passed by before two were parked just outside the property line of a large mansion located out on the outskirts of New Dublin. Without saying a word the cop got out and popped the trunk. Bringing over a large duffel bag and opening the passenger side door at last before setting the bag down beside her.

"The signal jammer and remote datajack bypass device are all military grade, and top of the line. Got em off the black market for a small fortune, but the hardware should be what you need to knock out the comms, powers, and wireless security infrastructure from here." Without waiting to see if she needed anything more the corrupt cop moved back to the trunk again. This time taking a few minutes to get geared up; donning his combat armor, checking and rechecking his weapons too. At last locked and loaded, with apparently enough firepower to take on a small army, Dig came to stand beside the open passenger side door again. Instead of checking to see if she was ready though the cop pulled out a small metal case and set it on the roof of cruiser.

Opening the lid Conners carefully pulled out three little vials, and two pills as well. Yet even as he opened the access port to his auto injector Digger paused and glanced down at Twitch. "I'll go on your signal. But when I return to the car...avoid making eye contact or saying anything at all until I take the dose of Clean Slate. Odds are good that I won't exactly be in a friendly mood. All that adrenaline pumping. Mixed with the Zerk, Shok, Warp and Slo Mo...just wait until the detox kicks in before making any sudden movements, yeah?" His drugs of choice were a different mix to be sure, yet for the task ahead Conners wanted to be at 200%. That combat armor of his, and his cybernetically enhanced strength would certainly help his endeavor, but the chemical cocktail would be the icing on top. Making sure that any injuries sustained would be ignored until after he had completed his objective.

"Man, really going for the hard cor berserker aren't you?" She quipped as she grabbed the supplied and hooked them up to her tablet and went to work.

In the digital space, her Avatar stood there before a digital representation of the mansion's security, her HUD showing her the best route to take as well as an inventory of sorts of her programs. She immediately accessed the smoke and mirrors program to hide her IRL location. She also put up a guard program to help block her against any security- it would take damage before her. Then, she moved in. Moving through the space was easy enough. She was cautious to avoid any security software. Spotting a sentry IC (Intrusion countermeasures), she released a tar baby program that basically acted like a nuisance spam program to keep the sentry occupied while she moved past it. Her Avatar glimmered with the smoke and mirrors program as the guard, represented by a shield moved before her.

Then she found her first datanode. It was a security node. She set a decrypt program on it and proceeded on. The program would let her know when she was done. It didn't take long to find the access port for the next area. And immediately she was alerted to a number of security. Apparently the camera's were a bit more protected than the lights. Twitch looked through her programs and released two muggers, one on each side, both equipped with stealth to take out the security IC. She quickly moved through the data to the next node, like walking through a room, and set another decrypt.

She found a place in the files to sit and wait, fortifying herself behind a firewall as the files decrypted and she gained full access to each of the systems. Next, was the harder part. Digitally, she waved her hand and minimized the two new access files and pulled up the security map. Her sniffer had located the wireless comms and she tapped the access port which caused her avatar to teleport there.

Immediately she found herself surrounded by security drones. Of course. She accessed a program called 'killer' as her shield took damage. Thus far no alarms were sounded. She wouldn't have much time though. Quickly she felt the weight of the gun in her hands, it wasn't really a gun but it was a digital representation of one. Firing in quick bursts she took out two of the IC and had to chase the third down, catching it just before it managed to signal her intrusion. [In the real world Twitch tensed up, her breathing quickened before she released a sigh of relief.] With security taken out she set her decrypt program to work on the node and repositioned her firewall. Once it was done she tapped the happy door in the top of her HUD.

Twitch blinked. "Okay, access is mine. She could see the files added to her AR HUD and she pulled them up. Comms, off. Security's, off. And power in 3, 2... 1." With almost no sound, all the lights blacked out, only the blue glow of her AR rig could be seen and the red lights on the signal jammer and her tablet.

Conners usually was one for keeping a tight reign on his dark impulses; so cold and withdrawn, he barely made a move without considering things from all sides. But tonight was his night. His night to let himself off the chain. His night to be free to play and punish the bad man who needed to be killed. Twitch wasn't wrong when she made the crack about him going for the hard core berserker tonight. Standing between Dig and his target was a dozen or two highly skilled bodyguards, all armed with heavy gear as well. So dosing up with the chems was what Riley needed to do. What he would do, despite the fact that every time he used that dangerous combination of drugs it more than likely was shaving years off his life. After all the physical strain it put on his body and heart...it was a toll that would inevitably come at quite the steep price to be sure. It didn't matter if he used the Clean Slate or not.

Just injecting the Zerk alone was like play Russian roulette with a fully loaded gun. But adding the rest of the narcotics into the mix all but ensured that the cop would never live to a ripe old age. Still none of that mattered to the broken man. No, all that he cared about was having his fun, and making sure that the child predator inside that mansion wasn't long for this world as well. Despite the overwhelming urge to move, to kill, Conners remained still as a statue right there by the side of the car. Waiting for her. Waiting for the hacker to complete her task before the monster within was let off it's chain.

When Twitch's voice was heard aloud, and the countdown was given, the cop was already shaking with wicked glee. Yet the second the lights went out Dig quickly dosed himself with each vial. When the pill was downed as well he put his helmet on at last, and without saying a word the corrupt cop was on the move.

Cloaked in the darkness Digger disappeared; the lingering silence penetrated by the intermittent sounds of horrific screams and gunfire too. For nearly ten minutes both sounds echoed out across the landscape, the flash of muzzle fire the only brief source of light seen inside the mansion on and off. Still as quickly as the firefight and screaming had started it ended as well. One minute becoming five, and five becoming ten. Yet at last the hulking combat armor clad figure slowly strolled towards the cruiser; blood dripping across that metal frame, dents and signs of high caliber weapon fire seen denting the armor as well. Cradled against his chest, and supported with one hand, rested a small child wrapped in a tattered blanket. Dragging behind Dig as well was a duffel bag too. One that seemed to squirm with movement from inside that large bag, and the sound of soft muffled sobbing could be heard as well. Without paying the bag any mind at all the cop just tossed it against the side of the cruiser; the thud and impact enough to stifle the sobs for a moment too.

No the bag, and it's contents, didn't matter just then. All his focus seemed to be on the small boy he held as gently as possible despite how badly Digger's whole body seemed to be shaking just then. Without saying a thing the cop carefully handed the child, no older than four or five, to the hacker in the front passenger seat. And when the kid was safe the cop stumbled a half step back. Dropping to a knee his cracked helmet was wrench free and tossed aside. Blood seen dripping from Riley's nose, and his eyes were wide and bloodshot as well. With trembling fingers the man strained to get his dose of Clean Slate free from it's pouch, but when it was used at last he let out a soft sigh of relief...only to groan in pain as he vomited up a bit of blood.

When the detox finally kicked in, and his shaking stopped at last Conners managed to make it back up to his own two feet. A look of utter exhaustion etched across his face as the man began to gingerly remove the damaged armor piece by piece. When he was done at last Dig leaned against the side of the cop car and finally turned his gaze back to Twitch and the little kid in her arms. With a nod of his head the man gestured to the pack of mint flavored Nico-sticks sitting on the dash.

"Hand me one, yeah?"

Kids. Twitch wasn't normally a fan. At least not up close. But she took the kid and let him sit on her lap as she pulled fully out of the system- having snuck back in for some datamining while everyone was busy and the major security was down. Who knows what she could find? She reached into her bag and found a sucker she passed to the kid. They tended to be her go-to thinking snack while she worked.

It took her a moment to realize what he was asking for, "Oh." Twitch nodded and grabbed the pack, handing it to him. "You look like shit." She commented, never much being one for a filter. "You probably should sit down before you fall down." She was a decker, less of a rigger, but if she had to she was sure she could hack the car and get herself home- if he passed out on her.

Riley Conners may have looked like shit, but he felt like it too. Already the blissful numbness of the drugs was already fading away, and in its place came the pain once more. Cracked ribs, dislocated knee, and all manner of soft tissue damage screamed for his focus. Yet Dig concentrated on one thing at a time; pushing away the grip of physical agony, and turning his attention to prioritizing what needed to be done. Even when the young woman remarked about his current shape the cop just offered a slight shrug of his shoulders. Not saying a word he instead took the offered pack and after helping himself to one of the smokeless nicotine cigarettes Digger pulled out his phone device.

A quick text was sent, credits were wired, and once he knew arrangements were made for Camelot to take care of the child the cop finally seemed to relax a little more. Oh there was no denying that he was practically dead on his feet, yet there were so many miles to go before he could sleep. "I'll rest when things are wrapped up for the night." That gaze of his drifted away from Twitch and came to focus on the duffel bag once more as the current occupant of said bag let out another pathetic muffled moan. If his knee had been in better shape the cop would've quieted his captured prey with a swift boot to the bag. Instead Conners had to settle for grabbing the bag and dumping it roughly into the truck on the cruiser before slamming the lid closed. It was only after tossing his battered armor into the back seat, and gently moving the child to lay down in the back seat as well, that the cop finally managed to climb into the driver side and sit it down.

Just the act of sitting had Riley wincing a little, but instead of dwelling on the pain he pushed through it for a moment longer to set the autopilot on. When the car roared to life anew, and began to drive them all towards Camelot, Digger fished out the medkit from its mounted spot, and settled in for the ride. Doing his best to get patched up while mentally making a list of things he'd need to do before the night could finally end. "We are making a quick stop to drop of the kid, then we will get you back to the cafe. I don't have to bother warning you to keep your mouth shut about what happened tonight right?"

Twitch arched a brow at him. "What happened?" She asked, feigning surprise. "I must have missed it." Her eyes glanced back at the kid with a sigh as she got comfortable in her seat, clearly occupying herself with something only she could see.

Her eyes squinted as she ran a key over the dump she'd pulled. It scanned for keywords and file types. She always looked for anything that referenced her, or her family followed by a key number of other people and corporations that were on her target lists. A small scroll listed an assortment of other phrases that were picked up that the VI thought she might be interested in. She reached up and 'touched' the list at a couple points and flagged the keywords- not for herself, but for the next person who went though. Maybe it would be something they were interested in.

As the car started to move, she reached into her bag and pulled out two suckers, slipping one in her lips she offered the other to the injured cop. Her palm also held a vial. "You might need this." She commented. "Unless you want to keep bleeding all over the place.

For the first time in ages Officer Riley Conners cracked a smile. Not that wolfish grin of his, but a real honest to god half smile when Twitch feigned surprise and spoke up. Oh it hurt, especially when he chuckled a tad. Still there was something about her remark that tickled the cop. Honestly he wasn't worried about her ratting him about about the massacre. Hell that sort of news would only have further cemented his position as a man not to be crossed. No, the secret that needed keeping was about the child. The kid had already gone through hell, and Dig was hoping Camelot could give the poor child a fresh start somewhere away from the darkness.

The offer of the sucker and the vial was met with a skeptical glance, however Conners did pick up the drug and inspected it for a moment before nodding his thanks. "You can keep the sucker, or give it to the kid." After eyeing the vial intently Digger finally injected it, throwing caution to the wind since he doubted Twitch would try to poison him. "Find anything interesting when you were poking around the files?"

"Everything's interesting if you know where to look." Twitch commented. Her condition had her constantly worried about getting injured and so her physician had given her a series of medications to take in case something happened to help prevent 'unseen' damage. From what it looked like, the cop had a lot of damage inside, and hopefully her medication could help. At least it wasn't the kind to conflict with anything else he'd taken. She put the sucker away and held out her hand for the vial once he'd injected it. "Personal info." Twitch commented, not wanting her personal info getting out there. Not that she really thought the cop would, but it was safer for her to dispose of it.

Everything being labeled interesting seemed to be a bit of a stretch in the cops opinion. Mostly because Dig found most things to be boring as hell. Still while his goal had been to take down his mark, well there was no denying that there were certainly some decent salvage opportunities after the blood bath. All those bodies that needed to be disappeared. The weapons and tech just laying around the mansion. Plus there was no telling what sort of hidden wealth and intel the old man had kept tucked away as well. Sure most of the ids and intel would get sold off to the Wire anyway. Still Dig had no doubt that the hacker had already helped herself to some of it, and he had no problem with that at all.

Even when she asked for the vial back the man just handed it over. Not really caring enough to try and look into her personal info, since the girl was merely a tool and not one of the Five. All things considered, even injured badly, the cop counted the night as being a good one.
