Who: Jim and Barbara Gordon
NPCs: ---
When: 5/13
Where: Gotham City & Gotham Cemetary
What: Babs takes her father to visit her stepmother.
Rating: Is there a rating high enough for sadness? Safe for work though.
Barbara had been juggling a lot of things--from Cypher's problems to Ted's adorkableness, from Cass's jealous to Barbara's own preoccupations with the Joker, she had been going non-stop. But there was one person she knew she hadn't been providing for lately, and that was why she called her father from her Bluetooth headset, driving her van to his part of town.
Barbara had a complicated relationship with Mother's Day. Father's Day was a slam dunk because Jim Gordon was the best father anybody could ask for, but things got complicated when she looked hard at the female role models in her life. Her mother had left the family--so angry and maybe rightfully so, but as far as Babs was concerned, she had never done anything to deserve her mother's desertion. And then there was the woman really on Barbara's mind that day.
She had been slow to accept Sarah, terms of endearment had been kept to a minimum. Still, the other woman had been brave and smart--an amazing female role model, a high standard to live up to. And Sarah had worked her way into Barbara's heart. If Babs had one regret in life that stood out among the others, it was that she had never let Sarah know how much of a mother she had been to Babs. And now? Now it was just too late for that.
Still, for as lousy as she felt on Mother's Day, she knew that Jim was feeling worse--more abandoned and more at a loss. As his daughter, Barbara couldn't let him go through that alone. "Morning Daddy," she chirped when he picked up the phone.
