Who: Open
Where: The Faire
When: Late Spring
What: The Faire opening [High Fantasy Event!]
Rating: TBD
The Faire is held where it traditionally has been for years, in the neutral grounds that border between the kingdoms on a strip of grassy fields and hills and heavily traveled roads. If there are truly any kings said to rule here, it is the Merchants Guild, a vast array of wealthy traders who keep influences in the close kingdoms, easing commerce among the neighbors. The event has swelled over the years and become an important annual event during the warm season when Spring threatens to turn into Summer as tents crowd, roads fill with travelers, the bay floods with ships, and nobility come to their borders to negotiate and reestablish their peaceful relations with one another. Or at least try to glean what their neighbors are up to.
So much has the event become firmly established as a hub for trading that there is a permanent town here off the docks, only ever called the Faire Grounds or New Eastdock. It maintains cobblestone streets and tall buildings of all manner of styles set close together around an open social square. Huge inns, business for trading and purchasing goods, mess halls, stables, and smithies--all can be found. There are no true homesteads, the owners simply living in their place of business and the farming lands above and below belonging to lords and kings. It is not, however, unprotected, being well patrolled by the Guild’s hired mercenaries.
The busy web of roads creeps even further out during the Faire, lined by the bazaar of temporary stalls and open tents where all manner of goods are being traded and sold. Beyond these are the tents and campfires. It’s a walk to make it into the Faire from these grounds, but at least visitors who do not mind sleeping on the ground can still attend and enjoy the sights and entertainment.
Some, after all, are only here to watch the Tourneys. Such contests of strength and skill are monumental and watched keenly by peasant and king alike. New winners and returning veterans are treated as rockstars, lauded by the people. Winners become guests of the nobles at the Faire Dance, invited to attend among high society, and for the lucky and best skilled and spoken maybe even further award awaits in addition to their golden trophies.
((ooc--Here is the set-up, dear players! Feel free to reply here with an introductory thread of your character(s) arriving to/being at the Faire or feel free to create a new post entirely! Upcoming will be the Tourney threads, where your character may be joining in the contests or being a spectator, and then the dance thread. Have fun!))
